  • Hi Guest - Did you know?

You can if you want to, though.
I still imagine that it's nice to actually have a plot with a main character. I have neither. I have a vague idea that still has to mature. And it has 6 hours and 41 minutes to do so.

Don't hog the spliff, mate. Share it around. :D

Hmmm... my novels do tend to stick with the known (sort-of). Maybe it's time to go to the unknown.

I am probably writing it in Dutch for the very first time, so that could be an excellent starting point. And since coming back to Australia I see plenty of oddities here. Also, I had a few loose things in mind which all fit. It's an excellent idea!

I have a plot, courtesy of Harke. Thanks, man!

Two minutes till midnight..... I'm ready to go!

(I always do this - write a few hundred words, then go to bed)

Not that I'm anything more than an unknown here, but I'm doing it as well.

Right now I got a blank openoffice document...
nothings coming to me. :-(

Haha, Color, I'm 1335 words in and it's only been an hour! But the book warned me that the incredible burst of vitality and spontaneity would only last for the first week... *groans*

From experience (this is my fifth year) I can tell you that there is a wall you will hit in week two. What helps with me is to plan a few scenes ahead. They don't have to connect to the story - think of a dream that may be vaguely related to the novel as a whole, but is also a subplot in its own right. Have those handy for when you're really stuck. The trick is to keep writing. If you stop for even a day, it'll be twice as difficult to start again. Even if you're completely swamped, take a minute to write twenty words.

I'm writing mine in Dutch this year, apparently. It started in English (it had to - international announcement), but I've switched to my native tongue fairly quickly. It'll be my first Dutch-language novel and I can already see my language becomes far freer than with my previous, English, novels.

Ack, I've just found I switched from past to present tense somewhere. #-o
A novel in the first person present tense... is that even possible? Ah well, I'll keep on writing.

Daemonfox: Only 3100? HAH! Don't sweat it; you have a month....

It should be! It sounds interesting; go for it!

[A quick search shows that High Fidelity, American Psycho, and House of Sand and Fog were all FPPT. I'd say definitely go for it!]

^ Oooh. Not bad. Cheers!
The FPPT does work because my MC looks back on past events a lot and if I had written in PT, I probably would've had to resort to past perfect or somesuch nonsense (my brain's still asleep, so I don't quite know what the right tense to be used is, but I think it's past perfect).

3881 words now and I'm at the start of day three. *needs coffee*

I've already given up. I'm too down to do it this year, things haven't gone too well in life in general since Saturday.

Shame, really. I had something of a plot to work with.

So sorry to hear that.(*8*)
