In May 2008, at around 9am, I was standing at a bus stop when I looked up at the sky because there was a small black hole in the middle of a large cloud. The hole was perfectly round and totally black. As I stared at the black hole it seemed to be growing larger. Suddenly, I realized that the hole was getting larger because it was getting closer - whatever this was it was heading in my direction!

At an altitude of about 1/4 mile, and with nothing else in the sky nearby, it was difficult for me to judge size, but as it approached I estimate the object was large enough for a single person to stand inside with arms outstretched.

My concern grew as the object drew close enough for me to see that it was a sphere with a very low contrast surface, but there was enough light and shadow to definitely say it was a sphere. What scared me was the silence! It was close enough to me that if it emitted any sound I should have heard it, but this sphere was totally silent as it passed overhead at about 1/4 of a mile.

The sphere maintained a steady yet stately speed, neither speeding up or slowing. It made no sound and had no visible means of propulsion. No openings, no grilles, no protrusions or antennas - just a perfectly round sphere silently gliding overhead in a straight path, traveling in a northwesterly direction. I watched the sphere as it continued on its journey until it got so far away it seemed to disappear into the deep blue of the morning shy.

(Note: at the sphere's closest approach to me, there were no cars passing by on the street where the bus stop was located, nor on the main highway half a block away)

31 May 2023 - Today, a team of NASA’s scientists and a team from the Department of Defense met for the first of a series of public hearing on UFOs.

I thought that myself afterwards, but there was a strong wind that day blowing away from me . . . and it still creeps me out the moment I realized it was heading in my direction, against the wind.

But something else is troubling.

If what I saw was a real object capable of flight in any direction - what are the chances that it would follow a path directly over me?

Something about this smells like I saw exactly what I wanted to see!

That's fascinating. Thanks for sharing it. I heard on the radio yesterday about NASA's new initiative to addresss UFO's.

Of course, they've rebranded UFO's with a new acronym, undoubtedly to distance themselves from the connotations of fraud and mockery of the term.

I'm not going to learn the new acronym. UFO works for me.

The climate is going haywire, we've got wars galore, uneducated religious zealots in positions of power and everybody's running around shooting off assault weapons. Let's throw some space aliens into the mix. What could go wrong?

When I made it home I did an online search for "black sphere ufo" and found a UFO Database website. The site was indexed by photos. If you saw anything that matched the index photo you were encouraged to share your story.

There was entire category just for spheres. The "black sphere" section had a post from a man just northwest of my location who saw the same thing I was earlier that day. At least I had my direction correct and I added my experience to the thread.

I'm lucky to have such an experience because the black sphere appeared in daylight, was unobstructed and gilded just high enough to be Very noticed. That this ufo flew directly over my head is what's so unnerving. Me standing alone at a bus stop and an object so far away that I wasn't sure what it was, yet the object crossed right over me!

That sequence of "coincidences" seems mighty convenient - something else was at play, that day.

Very true, keep in mind my encounter was 15 years ago and I've never mentioned it here before.

In order for UFOs to exist, they must be coming from our own solar system. The closes star to our sun is Proxima Centauri (the dimmest of the 3 stars in the Alpha Centauri system. It is 4.35 light years away. That's just over 40 trillion Km away. The maths just aren't practical.

Another big question is, "Why would they bother?"

If UFOs exists, they are being built right here on Planet Earth, and governments don't want us to know about them.

With all the spy junk that the superpowers have launched into the air over the last 70 years...who can say what anything is?

The truth is out there, though.

Agreed. All I know is that it isn't China.

Might be earthenware though:

Clear evidence that the saucer has flown.

Whatever this whole UFO question involves I'm convinced that it is not extraterrestrial - this is all a home-grown phenomenon, the answers start with us.
