A 20 y.o. straight friend of mine was also recruited by fratmen after they saw him on a social webcam site. He said a couple of other "straight guy themed" sites contacted him, but fratmen was by far the most aggressive. He asked me if I had ever heard of them, since he only checks out hetero porn online and was not familiar with any of the gay sites. I told him how popular fratmen is and he was shocked because he had considered doing the shoot, thinking that no one would ever find out about it. This was 5 months ago - November 2008.

I bet a lot of young straight guys think this way. Since they probably don't socialize much with gay men, and have no reason to check out gay porn on the internet, they honestly don't realize how much exposure is at risk. I imagine a free trip to California and a wad of cash in their pockets is fairly tempting under the right circumstances.

Was your friend contacted by fratmen directly or by an agent that may book models for all kinds of websites?

Maybe years ago a college guy might think that he would never be recognized on a website like fratmen. But college aged people have grown up with the internet. There is just no way that someone could believe today a line like "nobody will ever find out if you pose on this site." Am I being naive or do these guys know deep down that someone is going to find out?

I guess that, in the mind of some people, the kind of people who won't mind about there being gay people as long as they keep their business secret, the gay world is still a shady, mysterious underground world, like shitting: you know everybody poops, but nobody expects it to be a public business.

He showed me the message he got from them and I remember it distinctly saying that if he did agree to pose, no one will find out about it. Thankfully, he was smarter than to believe that and refused their offer. I just hope FMtv today clearly explains to all it's prospective models that THEY WILL be found out by friends, family, etc. if they agree to pose. Gays know their porn and unfortunately, most can't keep their mouth shut.

Sure, like the closeted bigot who got a hotdog-seller fired because he was outraged that he was being served by a gay porn model.

"Aggressive' is the right word, jparoke. I know a guy who was contacted by them on myspace, too. At first they told him that never of their models had ever had a problem with being found out: 'our clients are gay men'. He told them he'd think about it. He'd all but forgotten when they hit on him again. They sweetened the pot by like $1,000. They went on to say something like 'several of our models report becoming very popular with the girls after modeling!' He responded 'I thought you said that only gay men watched your stuff.' They never got back to him.

OK, you know what? I was going to keep quiet because I really don't give a shit what crap people are going to believe and it's not my battle to fight.

But that's just not true. John went SO far out of his way NOT to make money off of that whole thing. He deleted the DVDs, revoked license from all affiliates to prevent ANY promotion of the movies, took them out of the web site tour, called up everyone from CNN to Out Sports to Perez Hilton to get images removed from their sites. He pulled all videos from all tubes sites and sent out letters to everyone telling them that if they promoted Nash and Cal using real names that they would sacrifice any commissions they had earned.

John did ONE interview out of the hundreds that were offered to him.

He would have been 100% within his rights to send out huge promotional campaigns, make banner ads, take out full page ads and rush the DVDs to retail. He could have done what Dirty Boy Video did when one of their models was on "The Real Life" and made a huge campaign right on the home page. But he didn't. John could have made bank on that whole thing and he was more interested with getting the guys reinstated on their teams and appeasing the NCAA. He lost money on the whole thing.

I don't work for John anymore and I have nothing to lose by telling you the truth. If you were a member of the site you'd know that the video in question was edited to digitally blur out the tattoo from any viewing. It's not in any of the accompanying photographs that were made available to promoters and those pictures were pulled from the promo kits anyway.

John, no matter what anyone might say about him, did the right thing in this situation. He doesn't deserve claims like yours. I can't stand by and see him smeared in public so unfairly.

If Paul can get past Robles in the semifinals tonight, then he will most likely face #2 seed Nickerson, who has been steamrolling through his draw, in the finals on Saturday. Hopefully Paul can take of business today and really shine in primetime tomorrow.

Like I said before, he was contacted by several top-notch sites. You've seen the quality of guys that work for these places. They are college-age, athletic types that give good face. Suffice it to say that my friend would fit right in.
