I've heard the argument before too of "oh, well, the Chinese and Arab world might have INVENTED those things, but Europe USED IT!!!"

Of course that ignores the fact that European/western history largely is unaware of how badly the parts of the world conquered by the Mongols were set back. Much of the Arab world, for example, in particular many of its biggest cities, did not recover their pre-Mongol population for FIVE HUNDRED YEARS or more. The devastation brought by the Mongols set back societies by centuries, if not the better part of a millenium, and Europe was in a unique position to spring forward once it got over its religious nonsense because it had been completely spared any Mongol interest.

Why? Because it was too backwards and poor. Not because it was superior, better defended or had better technology.

This came up in this thread because others have complained that white Americans have had an advantage. As I said then, they invented, started industries, created the jobs. You agree by saying: .."all the things you mentioned and I have presented are not American or certainly not solely US inventions. But the US exploited them and found ways to improve and market them. So did the Europeans." And, others NOW, you say. You and I pretty much agree so far.
In short, the reason white males have had an advantage is because they created the opportunities.

What Mexican restaurant does not prefer Mexican employees? Indians for Indian? Asian for Asian?

That's not discrimination, it's adhering to what your business is.

Local case in point: when the Mexican restaurant near the local court house started hiring white high school kids instead of Mexican immigrants, business fell off and has remained down, because people going to a Mexican restaurant expect a Mexican 'atmosphere'. I've seen people get up and leave because their waiter neither looks Mexican nor speaks Spanish.

When I was in St. Louis, there was a fantastic Mexican restaurant there, the owner of which was of German descent. He insisted on finding Mexican employees as much as possible, for the mere reason that it was a Mexican restaurant, and he wanted to present everything as Mexican as possible.

See my post 240 below. Republicans overwhelmingly believe in free enterprise capitalism. Historically nothing is more important. Business should be free to hire the best qualified people. You, as a liberal, think that means pro white, but you would the surprised at the number of corporate heads who are non white or foreign born.
Affirmative action requires hiring without regard to the best qualifications. Bad for the business, bad for the economy.
Increasingly the Republicans are the party of whites. Democrats the party of minorities. It has been true since 1865, but it increases. The invariable result is that Democrat legislation is anti white and pro minority. Liberals think it is justified by past discrimination and fail to see how it is motivated by partisan

Actually it was caused by the barbarian invasion of Rome. They couldn't keep the immigrants out. But that was only Europe. You seem to have missed the point of both Rareboy and my posts which is that no, these things did not innately spring from white or European "culture", they fell into the lap of Europe as a confluence of historical happenstance, the silk trade, the Moorish occupation of Spain, the Mongol destruction of the eastern world, and a thousand other factors. The sole cultural factor that helped Europe put all this knowledge gleaned from other sources to destructively effective use was the reformation.

To look at history and the origins of most of these inventions and the sciences upon which they are based and to say "obviously, white culture was responsible for this" is simply seeing what you want to see, and not seeing what facts would lead one to conclude.

You're really good at jumping to the second floor, proclaiming it yours, and pretending it's the foundation. The foundation of your "white superiority" lies with guns, germs, and steel, i.e. the application of force to steal from the less powerful and proceed with the conceit that nothing before the accomplishment of that theft counts.

You know nothing of history. Technological innovation has gone in cycles ever since the building of the first walled city. Without fail, those who have achieved then fall to those who appropriate what they developed and use it more effectively or extend it. You glance around the current scene and believe that it shows an eternal verity, failing to recognize that your vision is no different than that of a man between two mountain ranges who believes that his valley is the entire world. The signs are already here that "white culture" is passing the torch back to another, after having fed off those before it.

The only culture to which our great achievements can be ascribed is human culture. Only if we set aside the arrogance that our portion is better will we ever escape the treadmill of repetition, and advance together instead of at the expense of others.

The only real factor to which all the progress you tout can be ascribed is the scientific/investigatory method, but that is not the sole province of whites. Indeed, even with that method, the advances we have seen would have been far less if not for one other factor: competition from the outside. Consolidating one single culture and isolating it is not a factor on progress, but its death knell -- and your battle to keep "white culture" pure and apart is the best possible avenue to ruin it.

When Romans essentially believed that the innate superiority of the Roman way of life and culture would hold them on top of the world forever, and when power in Rome was inherited or bought by people who could pay the most for it and no longer had any true sense of national or civic duty to Rome as a whole, the collapse started.

Nonsense. The idea that Arabs get credit for the electric power system, appliances, television, telephone and computers because they rubbed fur with amber and got a spark is totally stupid. I am sure the cave men got occasional static electricity , but, like the Arabs, they had absolutely no idea what to do with it. That is the real objection to rareboy's post; giving credit for entire areas of technology based on tiny dead-end observations centuries ago.
Please, Giancarlo, give us a list of the great discoveries and inventions from the Hispanic culture. You keep rubbing it in that Hispanics are taking over the country, so what wonderful new technologies and inventions are they bringing? What culture of innovation?
