Re: "Native Americans (North America)" Who are the

What about the theories that humans were placed on this planet by at least one (probably more) species of aliens. If that is true, then they could have easily placed Native Americans. And that would in turn strengthen Native American legends dealing with Alien visitors and guides.

I have yet to uncover uncontrovertible proof, but there are theories and legends out there.

Re: "Native Americans (North America)" Who are the

Unless you believe the origin of the human species began in North America there are no Native Americans.

Therefore IMO The question is who 1st colonized North America?

ST. LOUIS—The first humans to spread across North America may have been seal hunters from France and Spain.

This runs counter to the long-held belief that the first human entry into the Americas was a crossing of a land-ice bridge that spanned the Bering Strait about 13,500 years ago.

The new thinking was outlined here Sunday at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

There are other theories. Discuss.

I have read this before. It is believed that asians crossed the land-ice bridge at Bering Strait. The Eskimo's have some asian features. Then look at the ancestors of Inca and Aztec. They have some asian features, to me anyway.
I don't know where I've read this but it was probably some show on Discovery channel. I used to watch that quite regularly.

Re: "Native Americans (North America)" Who are the

There is absolutely evidence of any kind to back this up.

Re: "Native Americans (North America)" Who are the

Archaeology backs up the 'land bridge' theory. Archaeology also backs up the Vikings being the first 'modern' explorers to reach the New World. Native legends back up archaeology.

I'll go with the old theory. There's more evidence of it.

Re: "Native Americans (North America)" Who are the

^^yeah I have to go along with it too. I've seen Discovery programs about, was it Eric the Red? Anyway Columbus did not discover America. He may have discovered one of the islands in the Caribbean. When they show some proof that Europeans were able to cross the Atlantic when the Titanic couldn't.
I need some more proof.

Re: "Native Americans (North America)" Who are the

Well if you're a mormon, you believe Native Americans are Israelites/Hebrews.

Re: "Native Americans (North America)" Who are the

Indians (or Native Americans to be politically correct) were here in America first. They had tribes and settlements. If anything I admire their ways of living. They didn't cause pollution, they were friends to the earth.. and they didn't believe in fighting either. They started fighting when the felt threatened. White people came here and raped them... took their land.. brought diseases... etc.

This thread totally made me change my mind about my last thread about children of illegals. Technically white people are immigrants too...as are mexicans and blacks. I withdraw my former position and agree that everyone deserves American citizenship. I am still unsure about when it comes down to financial/population issues in the future.

Re: "Native Americans (North America)" Who are the

This is a fairly innane question of semantics.

Leif Eriksson

The remains of a Viking settlement were unearthed beginning in 1960 by Norwegian historian Helge Ingstad at L'Anse aux Meadows at the northern tip of Newfoundland.

Oh, yeah. The Vikings who settled there encountered Beothuk Indians. Leif didn't get there first.

Of course! Leif Eriksson. I remember him well, except in my last post.
I have seen this program on it.

The Journey of Man — An Odyssey

On Youtube. A geneticist's odyssey, really. From his evidence, the world's population is descended from only two people. (Not Adam and Eve. This guy's a scientist.) He travelled the world to make this documentary while gathering the evidence.

Double-click the movie to get to YouTube to watch the rest of it.

thanks for this link.. It looks like a very interesting place.

I've always wondered where Hawaiians came from. When you consider that it's a chain of volcanic islands and practically just a dot in the center of the Pacific Ocean, where did the original inhabitants come from? They would have had to set sail from somewhere thousands of miles away and then be incredibly lucky to have found it...

Hawaii is part of Polynesia (hundreds, probably more than a thousand islands in the south Pacific), so native Hawaiians are Polynesian. The Polynesian Islands were, I believe, populated by people migrating by sea out of Southeast Asia.

Iiiii'm going to say the ones who lived in North America before the white people came and committed genocide agaisnt them for their land.

Manifest Destiny

About "their land" - Land belongs to those who can hold it. You need to read up on the creation of human civilization. I will give you the cliffsnote version: "Dog eat dog"
Mmmm, Hitler had the same idea of Manifest Destiny. Yet people get down his back for invading their lands.

Crazy white people, defending genocide because of "dog eat dog" I thought humans were all "WE ARENT ANIMALS! We are intellugint bein's"

Just the way it is... Aint just white folks either.

And thanks for being level headed, Professor Gates!
Don't forget Darfur, they are killing and relocating more people then Rwanda.

But I gotta wonder where they got the whole idea for mass genocide from?

By genocide, the murder of hostages, reprisal raids, forced labor, "euthanasia," starvation, exposure, medical experiments, and terror bombing, and in the concentration and death camps, the Nazis murdered from 15,003,000 to 31,595,000 people, most likely 20,946,000 men, women, handicapped, aged, sick, prisoners of war, forced laborers, camp inmates, critics, homosexuals, Jews, Slavs, Serbs, Germans, Czechs, Italians, Poles, French, Ukrainians, and many others. Among them 1,000,000 were children under eighteen years of age.1 And none of these monstrous figures even include civilian and military combat or war-deaths.

I guess Rwanda was being a little lazy with their killings. They didn't even bother to invade a few countries and extend the genocide. They probably could have gotten their number up to match the white people.

Oh but Hitler probably got his ideas from a Great American Hero. Christopher Columbus.
First the group was already divided into colonists and natives. Then the Natives were dehumanized and treated like animals. “Then Columbus made a plan to capture the natives and send them to Europe to work as slaves. Next most of the Natives were slain either by the hands of their captors, their own hands, or from overwork, or they were captured as slaves. “The fugitives in the mountains were hunted down with hounds; if they escaped capture, they often died of disease or starvation. Thousands killed themselves by taking a poison made from cassava. Many parents killed their infants to spare them a living death under Spanish rule. In only two years, half the 250,000 Indians on the island were dead… it was the beginning of genocide for the native population. By 1548…not 500 Indians remained in Hispaniola” And finally today people deny that Columbus is guilty of Genocide. Saying that he was a great man who discovered the new world and neglect to say that he was also the starter of genocide against the whole Native American people.
