JUB Addict
WANTED:
Need a hobby... please anyone out there willing to help.
Well, that is a bit misleading, I do have hobbies, it just appears that I need to find a new hobby for a segment of my co-workers.
I guess, from the e-mail that I received last night, that a lot of them have enough time on their hands to meddle in my personal life. One of my co-workers e-mailed me from a personal account to a personal account that there have been rumors at work that I am gay. The e-mailer went further to explain, that someone took the time to find a personal ad that I had placed on the internet to "confirm" my status.
First off, I'm not really trying to hide the fact that I am gay. Since last June when I met a great group of guys here in town that get together on a frequent basis for social outings, I have moved beyond the anonymous gayspace that the internet provides and entered the vast uncovered reality.
Whereas I don't necessarily walk up to the new hires and say, "Hi, I'm Josh and I am your gay co-worker", I don't deny being gay either. Generally, I use the rather infamous U.S. military policy of "don't ask, don't tell"; really because it is not the business of my co-workers.
Besides, why should I let them know anyway. After ten years, I see how they have treated the guys that are very open about their sexuality. They are mocked by their co-workers. Seeing their response to these guys, it just solidified in my mind that I would not want to be very open at work about any of my relationships.
But the e-mailer suggests that they have a right to know, after all, the e-mailer claims, having worked with me so long it wouldn't change our relationship at all.
I guess, short of getting on the intercom and announcing, in a rather 12-step program way, "My name is Josh and I am a homosexual", I am either going to have to live with these nit-wits or find a new job (which I've wanted to do for years now anyway).
