So, our new next door neighbor works for a heating and cooling place. His work gave him a new ecobee4, which I'd never heard of until now. He already has one installed in his house.

While we were outside talking, he asked me if we wanted it. I said yes. He just stopped by and gave this to us. Amazon has it listed for $232. Still in its plastic packaging.

Is this neighborly love or what?

You know how we have the smartphone vs flip phone? Well, this thing is a smart thermostat. What it actually does, I have no idea. Never heard of it before this.
 
We have the Apple Nest thermostats and they feel like an invasion, adjusting heat and air conditioning in ways I don't want. We can make adjustments and control them from our iPhones, however, which is no big deal to me, but I am surrounded by high tech family members who love these kinds of toys. I hope you likes yours better. How many thermostats do you have in your home?

Right now, just one. Standard one that we can up and down the temperature and program when to bring house to what temperature.
 
I stayed at an Airbnb in DC in December, and the owner was controlling my Nest thermostat from Taiwan. It was maddening. Cheap bastard.

Even when giving me control, it was programmed to do things that were meddlesome. Thank God it didn't talk at least.

Apparently it's a thermostat which runs through on of those vocal devices. In this case, it's Amazon's Alexa:

"Alexa, set the temperature to 72 please."
"Temperature set to 72."
"Thanks, Alexa."
"You do realise that I'm not real, right?"
 
How wonderful to have a neighbour give you something that you had no idea that you needed.

The nest also senses when someone is home and overrides your programming. They also light up every time you walk by them. I don't touch them, but leave it to others but I still find them annoying.
 
If it can't suck my dick I don't want it.
 
I installed it a few days ago. It is actually pretty cool and convenient. Could change the temperature from bed on the phone. And it looks cooler than the regular thermostats on the wall.

To be honest, it is a little pricey. I would not have used it if it wasn't free. $230 is quite a lot for convenience.

I miss the old day's of having good neighbors, Mines has 3 cars and refuses to use the driveway and his stupid cars take up the side street parking.
