Neil Patrick Harris will host the 2009 Tony Awards on Sunday, June 7,
Radio City Music Hall
Great choice, he will be great!!

Another feather in his cap. I hope his resume building serves him well. He is a fine actor and an interesting celebrity. He appears to be a nice guy.

They should have picked Hugh Jackman to host it again. He was good and he could sing and tell jokes.

I did not know Jackman hosted the Tony's. I only remember the great job he did hosting the Oscars. I would have to say based on the job he did on the Oscars he would be an excellent choice as Tony's host.

I thought he handled it very well. He was relaxed funny and sooo darn cute :D

Unlike the Oscars, The Tony's do not ask much of their hosts.
His duties were limited which is actually a good thing, cause it should be all about the Tony's He did get in a few cute gay jokes, I especially liked his intro of David Hyde Pierce "coming out for the second time this year" ;)

He did close the show with a song and I never knew he sang that well, and it had to be a challenge to do the song because it referenced all the winners so it had to have been written on the spot. Even with I suppose was a prompter I was impressed by that.

I also liked th obvious reference to Jeremy Piven and the sushi, a little burn that everyone seemed enjoy, perhaps a bit rude, poor Jeremy.

I have to see Billy Elliot, my God that kid who did the dance segment from the show was amazing, what a talent, so happy the three kids won.

Scary moment for until Brett Michaels who missed his mark at the end of the song and was slammed in the head by a large piece of scenery that descended from the ceiling. I thought when they cut away that the show was going to be stopped but he seems to be ok. Brett hit the ER and got some X-rays to make sure he was not seriously injured. No word of any thing else, guess he is ok.
Good fun from Neil when he said, and I paraphrase, "Brett performance was the best head banging performance he ever saw". It offered a bit of relief for those of us who were worried about how Brett was.

So good job Neil, hope to see you at the Oscars soon.

I knew he could sing as I saw him in Cabaret and Assassins, but I didn't think the song was very funny. The highlights for me were Frank Langella, , but I thought for sure they were going to give it to Elton John for the three good songs he wrote for Billy Elliot.[/QUOTE

Thanks for reminding me of that Langella speech, I loved the tongue in cheek especially when he pulled out his Oscar exception speech, very cute.
I too was disappointed in Elton John's not getting the award, but I also thought he was very gracious when he accepted the Billy Elliot Tony, he congratulated the song writing winner calling his songs brilliant. Very classy Sir Elton.
I also forgot about Neil having done Cabaret, I saw the Roundabout Theatre Company production with John Stamos at Studio 54.

Next to Normal is number 7 on itunes top 100 albums! Hair is number 15, Rock of Ages is 21, West Side Story is 45 and Billy Elliot is 90. That's pretty rare for five cast albums to be in the itunes top 100 list.

That is interesting, as someone on the Tony's said, the 2008-2009 Broadway season has been the most profitable ever. More people going to B'way shows and apparently more people are buying cast show albums. That is a wonderful thing to see happen.

Neil Patrick Harris is back this year - hosting the 2012 Tony Awards! He's the best host they've had since Angela Lansbury brought a lot of class to them back in the 80s.

This was a good year on Broadway with a lot of diverse shows. Everyone is falling over themselves about "Other Desert Cities" and "Once". Both look good to win Best Play and Best Musical Tony Awards. Hoping hunky Norm Lewis wins Best Actor in a Musical for his performance in "Porgy & Bess" along with Audra McDonald as Best Actress in a Musical.
