Help!

I'm (thinking of) writing a fantasy story taking place on an existing fantasy map.
What's the best way to find out what a plausible climate for the setting is?

Are there programs that can solve my problem?

terragen is used in a lot of movies and has quick results for generating landscapes etc .. no clue if it also has some climate info

http://www.planetside.co.uk/

I've had Terragen since 2003 (?), and it's a brilliant tool (although not as easy to use as it seems), but it's mostly concerned with how a landscape looks.

Stuff like rainshadows and the effect of the tides isn't in there. (At least not without some external script).

Here's a pyramide I (probably) made in 2005 by abusing Terragen classic:

Depends, is your world round or flat? :D I can help if you want.

If round, it depends on the latitude, geography within 5,000 miles (maybe more), and how far from the oceans.

I was thinking of writing a FanFic for the TES universe.
This is the map. This is another one.

I'm interested in the peninsula called Yokuda.

Here's mine, it's a bit technical with monthly temperature averages, altitude, latitude, and relations to oceans.

The island is off the east coast, a bit bigger than of Borneo in size, and from north to south corresponds to northern Hokkaido to southern Kyushu of Japan. Climate wise, it's about the same as New Zealand with the North Island's climate being close to the southern areas of this island.

Is it a fantasy setting, or is it a real map?

Ummm... If this is a fantasy story about a fantasy place on a fantasy map why don't you just make up a fantasy climate? You know, like Bartholomew and Oobleck.

TES???

I think the best place to look would be to ascertain any already determined weather patterns. Other books from the series. Are there mentions of seasonal rains or repeated weather patterns on land masses nearby that find their cause in tradewinds and how would those winds effect your location. etc.

All relevant information is either in the maps or missing completely.
Half(?) of the continent was destroyed (which I take to mean submerged) 34 centuries ago.

Otherwise. a good starting point would be to figure out approximately how the island might lay if it were here on earth. Then beginning with a similar established real land, then you can start to build a climate.

It might be like Japan since that's where they got the name from.

I've drawn another another island map for the same setting. I meant to mod this island at some point, but I haven't even started it yet, and I doubt I will.
