I am a worry wort by nature and get very nervous before flying anyway, but with Osama's death in the past few days I feel I should be more nervous with retailation being very real and able to happen. Are my fears justifiable or am I just over thinking and over worrying for nothing. ((I'm going home for my birthday on Saturday :P)) (!)

Flying is the safest form of transportation, just don't get on a Space Shuttle, I think they are the most dangerous.

Yea, what he said. I love flying.

Flying is only fun if the passengers around you are "decent" people. On my flight back from Tampa this past week, I got stuck next to an obese lady and a smelly and snoring old man. If it wasn't for my noise canceling headphones (IMO the best thing ever), my ipod and being buzzed, I probably would have gone crazy.

I can remember the first time I was on a plane. it was 12 years ago and I was super scared of flying. I had convinced myself that the plane was going to crash. I had to go alone and that didn't help me out one bit. I waved goodbye to my parents at the airport and boarded the plane.

I think by that point I was hyperventilating and shaking all over. I managed to calm myself down somehow and took my seat next to this old lady. Well I was still a bit shaken up during the flight, nowhere near as bad as I was before. I should mention that I felt sick to my stomach during this time.

Well I took my seat and this old lady had the other seat next to mine. She could see that I was kinda nervous and I looked terrified. She asked me if this was my first time on a plane and I said yes. She then told me how she would take a tranquilizer before stepping foot on a plane and that calmed her down enough to make it through the flight.

She said I should think about getting a RX for a tranquilizer the next time I go on a flight. She then reached into her purse and took out a stick of gum. She offered it to me and before I could say anything I threw up all over her and the purse. !oops!

I was absolutely horrified (and wanted to die on the spot) and my face turned bright red. I got up out of the seat and ran into the restroom and hid there for a few minutes. When I got up the courage to leave the restroom, I went back to the scene of the crime. A stewardess was there saying something to the old lady and then turned around to me and gave me a look. We both got new seats (this was a daytime flight on a weekend; not very crowded at all)

After we landed I wanted to find the old lady and apologize to her for what I did. Well she must of vaulted as soon as the doors opened because I never saw her again.

Well, I would tell you to listen to music and do your best not to think about it. Remember if you make it though the takeoff part and the landing, you will be just fine. That's what a commercial pilot once told me. Oh and don't sit next to anyone if you feel sick.

From Washington DC to Sacramento

You should worry more about the amount of solar radiation you'll be getting in that distance (about the same as 1 x-ray) then the plane crashing.

Wow... I really suck at cheering people up.

As far as the terrorist fear. I was on a flight out of Dulles airport outside of Washington DC exactly one week after 9/11. I remember being scared about more attacks and fearful that the flight I was on could be hijacked.

I soon realized that with the increase in security around the airport (and boy were they ever out that day) that I felt safe and I was safe. It's all fear... don't let it get to you. Once you have safely landed in Sacramento you will look back and have a laugh at all of the fuss you made

Thanks guys that were helpful ! I just put on some Fleetwood Mac and calmed my nerves with folding and just keeping my hands busy. Tommrow I will definitly be listening to music as much as possible and as for the landings and take offs I have 3 on my flight there and 2 on the way back but i'm not going to freak myself out like I always do, and be positive that i'll only be 2 hours away from my bf instead of 3000 miles!
