I am talking to someone at the moment that I feel I might want to pursue a relationship with. Somehow this spawned the idea in my head that I should probably get tested. I haven't ever engaged in super risky behavior but I know that it is still good to do. I'm just really nervous. :S I made an appointment to go to the center in the morning. It's a rapid 15 min test. I am actually more afraid that I might see someone I know there or that they will think weird of me. Dumb thoughts I know.. but anyone have advice so I don't drive myself insane today and tonight?

Who cares what "somebody" may think of you?

What you are doing is responsible and very mature. Just the kind of guy "I" would like to know. So quit being nervous. You are doing the right thing, both for yourself and your new "someone".

The real shame is that not more guys think enough to do this.

Could not have been said better........|

I've never understood the "what if I see someone I know there" thing. What if you do? They are there too right? Smile and say Hi. No reason to tell them anything specific.

Your doing the smart thing. Peace of mind is worth a little bit of nerves. You said you have avoided high risk activity. Go and get this over and then move on.

Good luck.

Steven.

Getting tested is the smart thing. Knowledge is power. It is also perspective... and I promise you that whatever the results of the test, once you have the results you won't care who is in the waiting room.

Wow, definitely like how well this was said. I guess I'm gonna go ahead and go after all. One less thing to worry about once it's done. Thanks guys. ..|

HIV testing should just confirm what you already know- that your safer sex practices have done what they were supposed to do.

The first test is always a little more nerve-wracking and most people are nervous. After this, you should get tested on a regular basis as long as you are sexually active. It's part of the deal.

If you run someone you know, they're just being responsible for their health... just like you.

I just made my first appointment to get tested as well...I was nervous making the call for the appointment...and it didn't help that the first place I called had gone out of business..lol...but I made an appointment(of course they couldn't fit me in until the end of June, which kinda sucks but...whatever)...

did mine today! Found a planned parenthood that booked me for an appointment a lot quicker then the place I originally called(so I have to remind myself to cancel that appointment..haha)....I was a bit nervous...but it was fine...did the rapid HIV test....negative...phew....now I just have to wait and see if I hear from them about the 3 other tests...apparently if they don't call then everything's good...or they said I could just call if I wanted to

The place I went to seemed kinda shady haha. But the Dr. was really professional and my test came back negative. All was worth the peace of mind!

You can also give blood for free..... they test it for std's. You'll get a card in the mail if you cannot give blood again and why.

If you get a card in the mail begging for MORE blood, you are fine.

Just in case anyone wants to get tested free and do a good thing at the same time.
