Israeli PM tries to strike more neutral pose in U.S. election - First Read

The Israeli prime minister, appearing Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press," downplayed longstanding indications of pressure between himself and Obama and urged more bipartisanship from Americans in support of the Jewish state. Netanyahu told moderator David Gregory that his primary concern was preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons, not influencing the outcome of the U.S. presidential election.
To that end, Netanyahu said that Romney's accusation about Obama having essentially abandoning Israel on the world stage was "simply not the case and simply not my position."

So Romney has stepped into a pile of shit with Netanyahu of all people. When a world leader calls you a liar, and that world leader is the Right wing Netanyahu, it shows a disconect not only between Romney and reality, but with his followers ability to see that they are being lied to.

Ooops. Mark another nation Romney will have "no apologies" for.

Believe me, the Seniors in Florida heard this one.

So lets stop pretending that even Israel thinks that Obama has been against them. IF the severely conservative of that nation says point blank....

Moreover, the relationship between Obama and Netanyahu is generally regarded as tense, a charge which the Israeli prime minister rejected.
"I'm always pleased and happy to have a conversation with President Obama," said Netanyahu, downplaying reports that Obama had allegedly sought to avoid meeting with the prime minister during the upcoming U.N. General Assembly in New York. "We've had our discussions; our schedules on this visit didn't work out … but we continue to be in close consultations."

The GOP once again showing its willing to use even the state of Israel as a pawn in a scheme of lies to mislead the american voters.

It's unfortunate, but Romney has zero foreign policy experience and zero diplomatic skills. All he knows how to do is how to make money for himself and his stockholders. And he didn't do that by diplomacy.

Ouch.

That has to hurt the GOP narrative.

Sounds like Netanyahu has figured out who he is going to be dealing with after November and is trying to make sure that the bridges are strengthened between him and Obama.

I really don't get a shit what Netanyahu thinks about our president and candidate. He shouldn't be interfering in our elections. And he should also fight his own battles.

I think old Netty can already see the handwriting on the wall. If Obama is still this far ahead in the polls with this bad of an economy, there is no way he is going to lose the election.

Why suck up to Romney when he is going to be just a footnote in the history books after November 6th?

Netty knows on which side his bread is buttered.

Well, if the Republican voters are as stupid as Santorum thinks they are, they probably can't find their way to the polls on election day anyway and Obama wins in a landslide. ;)

Romney's statements about anything and everything make him look even dumber and more desperate by the minute. Must be embarassing to be such a total jackass and not be able to do anything about it. In order to fix what's wrong, you need to be able to see what's wrong, and he just doesn't get it.

If I remember correctly, Netanyahu isn't so well liked in Israel. Still countries' leaders shying away from Romney is a telltale sign they do not like him.

Romney misstates everything and is the only believing his own bullshit... even some GOP voters aren't happy with him. Mittens and Paul are two of the biggest liars ever to run for office. And lets hope it's kept as a disastrous campaign that failed. These massive failures are not being defended by the usual sources on here.
Say what you will about Netanyahu - fairly conservative, but he knows a liar when he smells one.

Oopsies!

I certainly think Obama hasn't been very warm to Israel, certainly more of a strain than previous administrations but the last thing Netanyahu wants to do is lose any flexibility... he's in a coalition with his opponents now because he's got a strong pragmatic streak. Remember all those who never would have believed Likud arch hawks Menachem Begin or Ariel Sharon could ever be legitimate partners for peace, but they were.

All the media are saying Obama is ahead in the polls. Netanyahu is just being careful not to back the wrong horse

This is a problem from which Romney cannot buy his way out. Quel dommage!

wow talk about a faux thread

where the title and the ingredients don't match

yet in a shiny happy world, it does :)

this is bibi reading the polls and "walking it back" a bit

pres. obama knows all about "walking back"

he does it daily

egypt is not an ally

walk that back please ;)

next faux thread???

I'm not sure what effect this will have on the Republican voters. They're pro-Israel, but they're still going to be confident that any Republican will be more pro-Israel than any Democrat.

Though I wonder if they'll remember that Mormons believe that native Americans are Jews.....

So should politicians be taking $100 million of CHINESE casino money? Oh yeah, right...Citizens United says that it's perfectly OK. How many of these dark money sources (on both "sides") actually come from overseas sources who want to influence politics on our shores?

I am with you LL, netanyahu should feel free to mind his own f....ing business, piss off back to israel
