No, Netscape Browser, once the most used webbrowser is not dead. Even more, version 9 ist comming featuring social integration, news in browser and url correction.

I just downloaded the mac version.

If you want to give it a try: http://browser.netscape.com/downloads/

The last version I used was 4.5ish communicator. I loved the darn thing.

I'll have to take a look at the new one and see what's up.

Yes, and it was much faster than Explorer. I don´t know why it was left behind.

Makes no difference to some of us. Microsoft Netscape quit accommodating Macs several years ago. Most of us now use Safari or Firefox.

Social Integration? Sounds like psychotherapy.

Seriously, isn't Netscape just a bloated Firefox? I mean they're both Mozilla aren't they?

Yes. I didn't test it, but there's most probably nothing new, except that it's branded with Netscape and bloated with useless marketing stuff. Netscape is based on today's Firefox.

I hate to burst everyones bubbles, but IE is based on Mozilla as well. It's just that Firefox uses the Gecko engine. I'm not sure what engine Netscape uses because I will not install Netscape.

IE:
Browser: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.04506.30)

Firefox:
Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.4) Gecko/20070515 Firefox/2.0.0.4

Someone with Netscape can go to http://www.ipchicken.com/ and see what engine it uses. If you want to.

Iut IE is based on Mozilla as well. It's just that Firefox uses the Gecko engine.

lool, that was a good one ;) No, Internet Explorer does not use the Gecko Engine. It uses it's one engine called "Trident" (i think). If you want to know why the userstring looks like that, check out this link.

Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.5pre) Gecko/20070604 Firefox/2.0.0.4 Navigator/9.0b1

New Netscape

^^ Me, too.

It's odd having a Netscape icon on my desktop again. :)

I used it now for some days but it really is Firefox with a new theme. It has some new features, but you don't need them, if you don't want to participate at netscape.com

Firefox is by far the best thing nowadays. It so much customizable, has so much useful add-ons, updates automatically, changes skins etc etc. Who need IE or Netscape.

Since Netscape basically is Firefox, you can use most Firefox addons with Netscape 9.0 :D I have my fave AdBlock already installed.
