Yeah ... I'm checking back in after like a 9-month absence. Time enough to gestate a baby ... but it seems very same ol' same ol' around here. I like JUB a lot, but it often seems limited in scope by being so gay-centric.

More than the topics being the same though ... what I personally find tiring is that - perhaps because the memberhip is so large - most threads are just a series of individual comments ... and too few progress into any kind of back and forth discussion. Those that do, more often than not, descend into the kind of bigoted, judgmental argument that too many gay men fail to see the irony in.

Le sigh.

Didn't watch it, but am worried I may be missing something.

Probably one of the most perceptive postings to come along here in a long time.

There is something seriously wrong with what is going on with the quality of the threads being posted = and the last 2-3 weeks it has been worse.:grrr: :grrr:

It is as if no thought what so ever is being put into the topics that are hitting the forum(s) - especially HOT TOPICS.

We have lost some very important members who contributed much to the growth of ideas and thought on the forum. And sad to say, some of what is being posted these days amounts to a pile of ?????

menial commentary by the local village idiot - surely we can do better then this. if my posting is offensive to any one, well what can i say?

Well, I'm a newbie but I'd like to think I know how to behave myself in a forum. I can totally understand what you are saying though and you do make a good point.

hey, somebody just called with a terrible "smokers" voice, yappin about 7 days or something. wasn't that a TV show? I'm confused

and why is my monitor leaking?!?!?

(I thought that movie was boring, BTW :-))

Some people find repetition comforting. I'm not one of them, so I tend to just skip over threads that either happened before or which are not really discussions so much as a string of congratulations or nonsense... the congratulations are nice, and the nonsense refreshing, but after a while it's like reading greeting-cards: fun for a little while, but only if you're looking for a particular card.

And whenever I can think of one (which is seldom), I start a new thread in hopes of sparking some interesting discussions. I always recommend this course of action to people who think the quality of conversation is dropping: start your own. Be a positive influence!

But I have also found that sometimes it's a good idea to just get up and walk away from the computer for the rest of the day when things here start boring me. Watch TV, go for a walk, visit some other website... sometimes we get so wrapped up in JUB that we forget there's a whole vast world into which we can escape internecine wars and cabin-fever doldrums.

(Before you go, though, click on a few sponsor links at random... gotta pay the bandwidth bills!)

I'm not a big thread starter ... and those that I do are usually on subjects a little too "deep" to stay on the first page for more than an hour.

Another problem with a membership as large as this ... many threads are on the first page for merely a day before being consigned to the oblivion of other pages.

High activity is great. But with 30 threads being created every couple of hours, not many have a chance to generate any substantial activity.

(I don't want to over-generalize though. A handful of threads become successful and stay on the first page for up to a week!)
