New adaptation of RENT to open in London

Should be, but doesn't it seem a bit soon to update it the way they plan on doing it. But the guys are hot, is the shirtless guy supposed to be roger?

There are quite a few well known British stars in it but probably no one Americans will have heard of. I've got my ticket booked for November.

I'm curious to hear the "remixed" songs. I don't like that they found people who look like they are from a fashion magazine to play characters who are misfits. It looks like Abercrombie and Fitch's version of Rent. And where are the minorities? That kind of played a big part in the original. The whole idea of black and hispanic gays.

The shirtless guy is Oliver Thornton, playing Mark.

Is it still going to be set in New York? I'm excited about the casting but not so much if they are going to be putting on awful accents for the entire show.

They certainly couldn't make the show any worse than it was. It's the only Broadway show I've ever walked out on. The last 20 minutes of the first half were excruciating, and I couldn't wait for intermission to walk out (I should've walked out much sooner!).

The whole idea of black and hispanic gays.
Leon Lopez, who's playing Collins, was definately black the last time I saw him.

Is it still going to be set in New York?
No, I believe it will be set in the UK and the cast will be using their own accents. It's to try to make it more accessible to young British people.

Hope you enjoy the play Algelfan. Tell us how it is.
I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with the show. I'm not going until the last week of November but I'll let you know what I think when I get back from London.

I'm curious. I like Rent--and after seeing Tamyra Gray at Broadway on Broadway yesterday, it may be time to see it again-- but it was already dated when it opened. It also doesn't help that it's so unfinished. This updated version could be a good thing.

why oh why... I don't like the idea of "updating it"
Probably because the original show is dated now. Lines like "When you're living in America at the end of the millennium" really date the show as we're now living in the new millennium.
