The hatred you show constantly is just right to drive people willing to think openly back into the enemy camp. Millions of young evangelicals are troubled by the stance their leaders hold. One of the things that keeps them from defecting is the obvious hatred from gays.
A similar point I was trying to get at in a discussion why people embrace religion and in my points how other things like politics fill that same niche. Once you get into a Us vs Them, the other side is the enemy, mindset reasonable debate goes out the window and change from one side or the other gets stifled by accusations of 'supporting the enemy'. That is why I think two biggest problems in the Republicans right now are religious conservatives anti-freedom ideas and RINO hunters. They both are leading the party away from the conservative values of freedom and individual liberty.
