Continuing my last thread, my IP call me next day saying that I had to pick up the computer on thursday (They said 4 weeks) (!). The computer came with Vista Home Basic and Office 2007 for 60 days, some times I feel that It's slow. I can't upgrade the ram till 2 years, because, but it would lose the guarantee .
In some programs it asks for permissions that sometimes annoying, and also it has installed many programs that I think occupy space.
Now, I am transferring all my archives (:sex:*|*) from the previous computer to the new one, treated to make a network between both, but in the old one it could see the new one but not to the inverse one , I chose to acquire pen drive of 2 Gb and has been faster :-)

Who worked on your computer? Why couldn't they have installed the RAM for you? Ram and HD's have ALWAYS been a customer install and I have never heard of this canceling your warrantee. I'd call and ask WTF????

Vista will be slow unless you have the minimum required RAM in your new computer!

i've heard of this. there might be a sticker on the back or something in the BIOS that prevents the users from opening it. gateway computers used to be like that. (the sticker thing). if you break the sticker you void the warranty. i would call them back and see about getting more ram. but i would guess you IP didn't make the machine and they'd say they'd have to send it off to get more ram. :(

I called my IP and first they say if I want more RAM I have to call the manufacturer that the PC, and they said call IP, after many calls my IP said about the warranty.
I don't konw to do becouse I don't want to lose the warranty. Perhaps in few months I will be openning it.
Thanks for all your advice, you are the best ..|

Here is what I was saying above before I fucked it up in a moment of "good grief"

What a stupid situation. I have just upgraded my mac to 2 Gigs of ram. The instructions on how to do it are in the little book that comes with it and it doesn't invalidate anything, most people wouldn't even need the instructions except to know which 2 screws remove the access panel.

Is it just me or is it increasingly the case that when you buy a computer you are buying a platform for the O/S vendor and affiliates to make money on. You are given "trail versions" of all the software that is essential for you to be productive with your computer. Limited subscriptions to software to protect you from all the things you have been told you must be scared of. I do not limit this to the PC it is also true of the Mac, we get a trial of Office 200? Ironically microsoft, also trail version of the Mac equivalent.

I was pissed off so I junked microsoft managed to activate iwork and installed Neo Office (which took 15 seconds compared to a mate who installed office on a Pc acouple of days ago and it took hours) and it is freeware. I don't need anti virus, not just because it is a mac but because I practice safe surfing, ingrained in me from the years with a PC.

It really takes the biscuit when you risk invalidating your warranty by not paying an "expert" to plug in a RAM module. If you were to cause physical damage by doing so it would be obvious. It's not as if you have to change any physical jumpers or anything. It is as complicated as putting your card in an atm except you cant even get it to go in the wrong way round.](*,)](*,)

I can't stand computer manufacturers who void the warranty if you upgrade a user replaceable part. They just want you to buy the RAM from them, which costs more than twice as much as it would cost to get it from newegg.

Who is the manufacturer? Most of them don't have this restriction anymore. Don't spend more than $100 on 2GB of RAM. That's how much you should be able to get it for at any online store.

EDIT: I just looked at your other thread and it's a Lenovo. Lenovo is a good company and there is no way they would do that. I took a quick look at their warranty statement and it basically says that they won't warrant the new memory, but the rest of the computer will be under warranty.

Here's my suggestion. Go buy 2GB of RAM and install it. Keep the old RAM on you so that if you have any problems with the computer in the future, you can put the old RAM back in to make sure the RAM isn't the problem. If the RAM is the problem, then you need to deal with the RAM manufacturer. If the RAM is not the problem, Lenovo will gladly help you.

trawler69: I'm agree with you ..|
me12121: Tha't I will do as soon I can get the new RAM
