So, I'm not sure if anyone knows about this. But I think people should seeing as how Dragonball Evolution looks horrific. Shortly after this Jump Tour thing a new DBZ OVA was released.

This show first started airing April 5th, 2009 and it has a new opening and ending as well. Also brand new animation. It's basically a remake of Dragon Ball Z with all shiny new animation and it's supposed to be closer to the manga and less filler.

- The DBZ TV series is receiving an extensive "refresh" for Japanese television airing
- This is a celebration of the 20th anniversary of DBZ
- While based on the original animation production, it is being updated with new technology
- This includes extending the frames for formatting on an HD 16:9 display (note: not cropping the image)
- The original Japanese cast is re-grouping to re-voice the show (where available, and unfortunately not including those that have passed on, such as Hirotaka Suzuoki [Tenshinhan])
- Sound effects are being updated
- Unlike the general show, the OPs and EDs are being completely redone
- While not in the above announcement, other reports are noting that the number of episodes is being reduced from 291 to approximately 100

New content:
- A brief look at the last moments of Bardock and Planet Vegeta
- An overview of young Goku's growing up years (Dragonball, the pre-Z period) up until his triumph over Piccolo at the Tenkaichi-Budokai.
- The all-too-brief and yet still somewhat triumphant return of FARMER WITH A SHOTGUN!

And sadly (although that really all depends on how you look at things...)
- Goku's winky has disappeared!

That's right, through the miracle of "we're just not gonna draw it anymore", Li'l Goku is no longer going to be allowed to show off "Even Littler Goku" on TV. But don't worry, they won't do anything so blatant as to digitize tighty-whiteys on him.

- The story will be developed speedily! -- "Kai" starts from the invasion of the Saiyans. This version will be re-edited to hew more closely to Akira Toriyama's original story, so the story's development will progress all the faster!
- The opening and ending songs will be completely renewed!! -- The opening and ending songs will together be made anew! Furthermore, in "Kai", the background music will be newly recorded. Let's enjoy "Kai", where even the music has been powered up!!
- Through digital processing, the image will be made vibrant!! -- All the grime, damage and noise remaining on the "Z" film will be removed! In HD, the image will be even clearer. We've carefully made the ultra-powerful "Kai" world even more impressive!
- An all-star voice cast will record the lines anew!! -- The original main cast, centered around Masako Nozawa as Son Goku, will reunite, yo. They'll breathe life into the characters again, to support their appeal!!

Here is a video of the first opening.

It sounds a lot like "Dan Dan" (DBGT Intro)

I hope funimation gets the rights to it soon so that way it can come to america.

dang, i had hoped if dbz were to be remade, it would be from the ground up. meaning on top of cutting edge animation, a more deep and mature storyline. but who am i kidding, i'll still check it out lol

It's pretty good so far. I've watched episode one.

I like how they showed Bardock and parts of DragonBall.

And OMG THE FARMER WITH THE SHOTGUN IN HI-DEF :D

So far they are right about it going faster.

Goku's death and him in otherworld is episode 4 of Kai. But with Z they show that at episode 6.

And now we won't have to watch them power up for 10 episodes T_T"

It would have been kinda nice to see the otherworld tournament and garlic jr saga in hi-def though. Oh well.

SWEET!!! Re-watching Dragonball with improved visuals. I'm so watching this when I get home.

Since it looks like it was actually made in Japan(ain't sure if the original DBZ was made in Japan or US), it should be good.

The original DBZ, DB, and DBGT was made in japan.

The only somewhat anime not made in japan is Avatar and Teen Titans.

The problem was DBZ was originally dubbed by Ocean Studios or something which was god awful and they edited it so much. But when Goku and Frieza fight funimation started taking over and making it better.

On the DBZ Season Sets it still has 3 audio options. One is japanese audio, second is english audio with japanese bgm, and the third is the original television audio. There was actually a completely different BGM score for the american version of the show for some reason. Much different than the Japanese version.

It's very true they repeat the same formula over and over again but I don't care...I love it!!! And I'll watch this shit! It's guilty pleasure! Always has been! Love it!

Always hated it. Same boring formula for fights. Power up, then power up some more, fly into each other and fight at breakneck speed, get hit once into a mountainside and break it apart. Opponent rains a thousand energy blasts at you - they all miss. Then power up, warp, hit, fly, talk about this amazing move you're about to do(mainly directed at Vegata, Goku and Frieza), do it, it either hits and kills a minor guy, hits and does alot of damage but they get away to heal to their full strength, or misses... repeat until either a planet is destroyed or a move SO FUCKING POWERFUL is done that both people die.

Ugh. I shoulda went outside and played in the sewer instead of being forced to watch that crap cuz my twin loves anime.

But it's still somehow awesome :D

I donno.

It is kind of annoying watched loops of wind or powering up.

It would be nice to show them powering up quick.

I think on Season 8 when I was watching Goku to power up to SSJ3 he takes a full 5 minutes to power up. And he basically screams for 5 minutes.

People might like to make fun of how they look when power up. But I feel sorry for the voice actors who have to hold that for 5 or more minutes T_T"

And that's both the american and japanese cast.

There are other things that are done in the original anime that use up time now.

Of course now with current anime they always do like a 2 minute opening and 5 minute recap. And then guess what. There is only 14 of animation. T_T"

I think this new anime will be great. And the new DSi game looks so fucking amazing. It sucks it's only in japan right now though and for DSi. I hope they bring it to america. There hasn't been a DBZ rpg game since Buu's Fury. And the DBZ action/rpg games were actually fun.
