Hey everyone, I don't post often but I think I need advice on how to approach this situation.

Within the last 8 hours of this post I have landed a new job as a bartender at a straight strip club in NC. The GM and I both just happen to be from the Detroit suburbs, but that notwithstanding I don't have much experience being in a Strip Club. I haven't heard of any hostility towards gays while inside and in fact the lead DJ works for the only Gay bar in the area. The environment though still has all of my caution sensors on high alert for who I tell. I start this thursday training with the lead bartender, does anyone think they can provide some perspective on this?

Much obliged.

EDIT:
It might matter that this is in the Triad area.

Relax.

Why do you think you have to tell anyone at work?

Just be yourself.

For the last three and a half years I've worked part time in a straight, meat market kinda bar.

Management and most of the staff know I'm gay. The customers, not so much.

Just be yourself, work hard, have fun. It'll be fine.

Well my main apprehension is that I can be legally fired for it here. I'm a cautious person by nature but at the same time I've haven't lied about my orientation in like 7 years. Ah well, we'll just see how it goes in 3 days. I'll be back around and post about how its going.

Jeezuz.

You're worried about being legally fired as tarbender at a str8 strip club?

If that is what preoccupies their brains and guides their moral compass then you're better off without the job there.

They should be happy that you won't be distracted by the goods, no?

They want someone who can sling the drinks. Presumably, you can do that, or you wouldn't have gotten the gig. Just mix away, and don't worry about your sexuality. Once you get to know your co-workers, you'll know if you're buddy-buddy enough to discuss your sexuality.

SMILE, be Friendly, and Hustle those drinks! (Or, are they still doing "set ups" around there?)

If a customer says, "Dayum those chicks are HAWT!"

You say, "Aren't they though?"

But, don't Wink at the guy! ;)

There is no need for your sexuality to be part of your work environment. I managed a restaurant, in Durham, and had some problems with my waitresses coming on to me. (And my male superior, when we were there together.) "Discretion is the better part of Valor!" It's quite acceptable to Demurely decline any advances from anyone. ..|

Do not call your male customers "Dahlin'" or "Suga'"! And do not break out into Show Tunes when "Baybee" is in the middle of her dance!

Be Outgoing, and Funny, but keep your wrists "locked"! #-o

Looking forward to hearing how this works out for you. You should be just fine!

Keep smilin'!!(*8*)
Chaz ;)
