They're not very big, are they? 3 feet long and 90 pounds. There are even smaller cats there too.

I agree! There is so much to learn about the earth.

Also, I don't know if this is the case with the clouded leopard, but sometimes when a species population size decreases, resources are scarce, or formally isolated populations converge, similar species may mate with each other and create hybridized progeny. These progeny can mate with each other but are reproductively isolated from their parents. Cool.

What is sad about extinction periods such as the one we are experiencing is the extinction of a species without having ever been discovered alive.

It sounds cruel, but really such is life.

This world is full of surprises. Until about a week ago, I had no idea there was a whole section of animals (and plants) labelled Lazarus Taxa - those previously thought extinct but subsequently re-emerge.
