New York Mets 2008

Oh man we are gonna have our fun with Abs, and he's gonna love it

Oh, such famous last words I can already taste this series between the Cards and the Pond Scu...I mean the Mets

We just took two outta three from Boston at Fenway  shocking I know, and we were SO close to sweeping them - I think they said something like over 500 pitches were thrown in the 5+ hour game? Crazy!

Bring it on bitches

(!)

(and that's the only one I'm gonna quote - trust me, I've seen the other comments! :spank:)

was at the "game" tonite - OMG

shutout by a guy throwin 65 mph - little league stuff

Done in last night by an AL pitcher who never bats with a grand slam ripped to the opposite field ....and tonight by a knuckleballer who hasn't fooled anyone in ages.Perez cannot get big money as a free agent after this year when he is so prone to this brutal, incomprehensible bouts of crappiness.Jerry Manuel is doing his best in a tough situation, but turning this thing around would take an incredible task I don't have confidence this club is capable of.

Ok, now it’s getting really serious, that loss 11-0 last night was a bad dream right? that could not have really happened. Forget about Perez and his inconsistency, what happened to the bats? The Mets are playing the worse team in baseball and should be using them as doormats, but instead they are proving once again how badly thy play baseball. Every now and then they pick up the pace and play decent ball, everything is clicking, defense, offense and starting and relief pitching, and we think ok now we are gonna roll. But time after time they fail to keep it going and I am not only sick of it but seriously doubt they will ever play better than .500 ball.

Sausy you mentioned Santana, what the hell was he thinking? With the opposing pitcher on the mound, who never gets hits, cause basically he is an American league pitcher so he don’t hit. So what does num nuts Santana do? he pitches him a high fast ball up and outside the strike zone. I caught the game late and had not yet picked up the catchers signs but I think Castro was set up low and inside. I thought the pitch was way to high and caught too much of the plate. I watched that pitch very carefully cause I wondered what Santana would do with the pitcher on the mound and bases loaded. Why did he risk that pitch?
Hey, note to Santana, your fast ball ain’t that fast anymore.
Santana better start to pick up his teammates. He has not won a game since 6/7

Oh, and to those of you who still believe it was D Wright's bumble that allowed that grand slam, I need to point out that David has been almost error less this season and his throws have been accurate and on the money, a big improvement over last season. BIG! So he was a part of it to be sure but people are blaming him for the 4 runs when clearly it was Santana who loaded the bases in the first place and then gave up a grand slam to the pitcher.

So where do we go from here, there has to be something major done. I can’t fault Jerry yet, I mean the guy has really not had much time and I do like his thought process. But maybe Omar should take the blunt of the problem, after all, he built that team and some of those guys just are not producing any more, be it old age or indifference, problem is we have no farm system to speak of,(thanks Omar),
so what do we do now? I expect and demand major adjustments in this team over the next few days. I think we have to give Mauel and Warthen time to work with these guys, they both have some good ideas but they better implement them and fast.

I am going to be spending a lot of time over the next few weeks watching the Cyclones, I dono if any of you guys have been following them but they are playing really decent ball. I am going to be keeping an eye on pitcher Brad Holt, and shortstop Dave Havens. Seriously, right now, they are much more fun to watch the Mets.
Of course all eyes will be on Ike Davis as he plays at Class A Brooklyn. I would love to see him replace Delagato at first, and soon.

Time for me to join in , please forgive the extreme sarcasm.

I am So Glad the Mets changed Managers. Look at how Great they're playing now!

BTW, I'm old enough to remember the excitement of being allowed to bring a transistor radio to school so we wouldn't miss the end of the '69 season!

I was at Monday's game and witnessed first-hand Santana giving up that grand slam homer to Felix Hernandez. Arggghhhh. First grand slam by an American League pitcher in 37 years! Not even gambit2212 can remember the last time it happened! ;) What a miserable game to watch. Last night's was worse yet!

I was very happy to see David Wright, back from a day's rest, smack 2 homers tonight! Let's avoid the SWEEP!

Yea,sonny.....I just couldn't believe a rinky dink AL pitcher could make Santana look so bad. There just aren't words.I'll cut him some slack because he has been usually solid if niot really great, but the rumors of Santana's fastball not being what it used to be seem to be proving more true than ever.Of course it's still good enough and great pitchers can thrive being change of speed masters, but the Mets have invested a ton of money on him and he's got to pitch smarter than that, like I said there are no words to justify that performance.

Perez stunk and the bullpen poured fire on the gasoline Tuesday night.David Wright wasn't n the lineup,I understand Jerry Manuel's reasoning and have no problem he told David flat out there will be no fighting him he wasn't playing.........but he probably would have put up more of an effort than the rest of the lineup did.Losing 11-0 to a knuckleballer with close to a 6.00 era, really pathetic, really offensive job from the Mets "offense".

I'm glad to see Ryan Church will be back really soon,by the Yankee series starting Friday afternoon at the make up game at Yankee Stadium.Damn we miss his everyday professional efforts,at the plate, hustling on the basepaths and in the field.

Guys I'm glad to see Jose Reyes showing why he is so lethal with the bonus of his power, with that three run homer tonight.Just hope he doesn't getpower happy and remembers to balance that with his ability to get on base and be a run scoring dynamo with that speed of his.Nothing like watching him bust out a triple with that fantastic speed of his. When he has everything going,he's the most fun player to watch in the league.:D

David Wright should get off days more often, especially after losses;)...two no doubt about it home run bombs!Again.great to see but I hope he doesn't get too pull conscious and just goes at his best to all fields with authority.

John Maine and the bullpen gave solid efforts tonight in the 8-2 victory over Seattle.Thankfully,no sweep by the worst team in the AL,Seattle. That would have proved embarassing,no end.Let's all hope that the Mets can give the Yanks fits this weekend....no Joba Chamberlain to face, thank goodness,he is rapidly becoming a force as a starter and may well be capable of leading the staff as an ace.

Mets signed their first pick of this year's draft,Ike Davis to a contract.Hoping to see him rising through the ranks real quickly, and with Mike Carp and Nick Evans the Mets may have a powerhouse offensive option at first soon enough without having to spend all the megamillions they would have to spend to land Mark Teixeira,Scott Boras' latest insane contract experiment in waiting.

Meant as a hitter.Other than this, when was the last time he batted?Giving up a grand slam to a pitcher who never bats just was inexcusable on Johann Santana's part,no disrespect intended on the pitching ability of Felix Hernandez, docwellington.

Yeah guys, Johan has a lot to make up for, I am looking forward to him and Pettite going up each other on Saturday. Pelfrey pitches the first game on Friday, so we outta get at least those two. Friday night it's Pedro and Ponsun, so I don't expect to get that one. then Sunday we got Perez, :help:soooo I guess we win 2 out of 4.
I gotta say the winning game on Weds helped, but if you break it down must of the runs were unearned and the Mets really only had 5 hits. It was all about 1-4. We need everyone to get back in the game. Maine was decent but still not pitching as well as I had expected him to be this year.
Ryan Church should be back this weekend, did you see him in the dugout the other day wearing a protective catchers helmet? funny dude.
The good news is Ryan played five innings in rightfield last night for Class A Brooklyn, he went 3-for-3 with a pair of infield singles and a double. He also scored a run and drove in another. (!)

Gonna be a great weekend of baseball, I can hardly Keep from smiling all day.
After all...baseball is my life

Hey guys, and especially you sausy, here is a great shot of our boy David in the dugout after after he belted in that second homer

l

wuts the NL starting line up look like cuz the AL st. line up is boston/yankees/ichiro/ and i think hamilton. LAMEEEEE

The polls close on Wednesday night, two National League All-Star campaigns are too close to call.
Stay tunned.

BTW, Lou Pinella was selected on Thursday to replace Willie Randolph on the NL coaching staff.

Thanks sonny, great pic..it's gonna be the face that will give Abs nightmares through Thursday night:badgrin:though I'm glad the Cards took two out of three from KC and Abs could be there cheering his beloved Cards on!:D

Schizophrenic weekend regarding the second half of the subway Series! What an offensive show the Mets provided with two homers and 9 RBI from Carlos Delgado...followed by an offensive game for Mets fans when Pedro had no location and we couldn't break open against headcase retread Sidney Ponson...oh,that hurt!

Followed by Andy Petitte outdueling a decent but not overpowering johann Santana, who did nothing good for his rep when he basically absolved his own flawed performance(Shut up already, there are games where you just won't be getting the call in your favor...it all evens up!)and trashed everyone else.Well you win and lose as a team, and you support your teammates and not make yourself above them.

Sunday it was Dr. Jekyll and Oliver Perez. He does throw in these incredible games and you realize how damn talented he is when he focuses. He just rises up to the competition, although his maddening tendency to implode and get distracted and pounded against inferior competition just cannot go on.He needs to dedicate himself more because he has the ability to dominate.Carlos Delgado hit another homer and is starting to look like he may have a solid second half.So good to have Ryan Church back, and Jose Reyes at least offensively looking like he's rounding into form(though still running the bases and defensively, mistake prone)

Let's hope for a great series against the Cards sonny and all our other Mets fans that will set us up in good position to knock the Phillies down a few more pegs this weekend!..|

Hey guys, I forgot to post on the Monday nights circus, I mean ballgame.
The guys are making way to many mental errors, maybe trying to hard. The fielding errors, Reyes, Delgato, and Castillo were just ridicules for a major league ball club to be making. Even D Wright messed up, why did he throw that ball?? Like I said mental errors. Reyes had better grow up and stop acting like a child, I am sick of it. Hell, even the Cards made more errors than then usually do;
I guess the Mets rubbed off on them. Maine has just gotta settle down, he missed all of his spots. I am sure he will be fine.
I like the way crazy Perez pitched this weekend, I know Warthen has been working with him on his delivery and maybe he will have more success than Peterson did. Pelfrey’s outing was good as well, even though he got into trouble a couple times, he pitched out of it and THAT’s the difference.
What is up with Santana? Not only is he losing games but lately he has been throwing his team under a bus with comments like “I can’t be perfect, I need the guys to score runs” Someone put a sign in the locker room, obviously directed at Santana, which reads:
Rare is the person who can weigh the faults of others without putting his thumb on the scale.
You can bet the farm the guy who put that sign up was Wagner.

I did not see last nights game, it went better, and I guess Armus Jr pitched ok. I was surprised they did not throw Pelfrey in after 3 days rest, but it worked out ok. I wondered what they would do for that extra spot created by the double header last week.

The Cards are a great team and fun to watch, their pitching coach has done a great job. ..|
Abs should be proud; his team is in the game for sure.

As for the Mets, we need to give Manuel and his coaches more time, improvement will not come overnight. I will keep the faith but I do have doubts, as I said many times, Willie Randolph was not the Mets biggest problem.

Wellemeyer didn't look to pretty out there last night. I'm actually surprised you guys didn't score more runs, early on.

David Wright is so friggin' hot. That HR he hit was a BOMB.

Keep an eye out for Skippy too - he has such a nice little ass! !oops!

I'll post more after tonight's game, and not just about hotnesses. I need some lunch!

I got my avatar ready for the series this upcoming weekend! (!)

Hey babe, I'm just happy we scored runs, period ;)

David Wright is so friggin' hot. That HR he hit was a BOMB.

Yeah, he is my main man, I am so glad he has finally got out of his slump.
I will have to pay more attention to this Skip dude you keep salivating over :D

Well, it's absolutely pouring/lightning out here in the burbs of STL as I type this, and when I move in a week and a half to the city I hope I don't have to deal with the bullshit of not getting a satellite signal anymore ;)

Anywho, thoughts on this game.

Mets should've won imho. It just so happened that Chris Duncan hit a HR off a left handed pitcher  who'd a thunk it???

I cannot believe that the Mets, in the past two games, have not scored more with RISP. Especially those runners at third. You could have easily taken this game tonight, and Tuesday's game was why you won - scoring with runners on third, much less second base at that point. Getting key hits also.

At at this point, I hope my internet doesn't go down (cause holy damn it's hailing outside) so I'll just click submit so I don't lose it ;)

Let's hope for 3 outta 4! You boys ready???

(!)

I really can't talk now:cry:Why can't we sustain anything?I can't even see today's game live because I have to work,but it's probably for the better!

On a happy note, love your "Cubs suck" avatar for your 4th of July series against them.:D

At best a series split in St. Louis for the Mets,Abs....but the Cards deserve last night's win because Chris Duncan finally came through against a lefthander, and Troy Glaus smashed hishome with his walkoff second home run last night. When In the end,we didn't do enough.....it's our mantra this season so far.

Glad you could get this in with all that wild weather.I know St. Louis has been spared the worst of the flooding recently, but more thunderstorms are the last thing you need! The best of luck on your move into the city,I read about that in GL's thread and if I remember correctly it's in the gayest part of the city, the West End!..|Hopefully no more reception problems;)
(*8*)

Great game last night, everything clicked, defense, offense and of course pitching. Pelfrey was dominant and the pen came through as well. Now if only they could keep playing baseball like that into the series with the Phills.
I like mixing it up with Castro and Schneider. Castro has a better bat and can help us out there. Schneider on the other hand calls an awesome aggressive game which I like a lot, plus he is great with the younger new pitchers as well. So it’s a win win.

I was glad Pujols did not get his 300th against us, in fact Pelfrey owned him last night, (sorry Abs.) ;)
Btw Cory, what’s up with La Russa and his bull pen? Does he ever go to them? What’s he saving them for?

Sausy, you mentioned the walk off homer to end Weds game. I’ll tell ya what, I love walk off wins only when it’s a Mets pitcher walking off the mound. ;)

So it’s off to Philadelphia. God only knows what will happen to us there. But one thing for sure, Johan has to win tonight. HE HAS TOO!
Just think, if we sweep em we will be a half a game out. Yeah right, keep dreamin Joey.

D Wright is ok, just a pulled groin, (been there done that) he will be back tonight.
In fact he did not want to leave the game but Manuel figured to play safe especially with that huge led.
Did you see David, after he felt that pull in his groin, head down the tunnel with one of the trainers?
I was thinking, oh man I wanna watch what he is going to do to David. :D

Friday’s game was a fucking shame. Johan pitched a great game only to have his team mates let him down by not scoring any runs. Is it me or is this pretty much the case every time he pitches, there is no run support.
I still can’t believe Manuel pulled Johan after the 8th inning; he should have pitched the 9th. Johan had only thrown 95 pitches by that time, and as a matter of fact in the 8th he threw only 7 and was still sharp. Now I dono what might have happened if he stayed in the game instead of Sanchez but ya gotta wonder. It was obvious he was irritated and disappointed in Manuel’s decision, in his interview after the game he was respectful of Manuel but clearly you could see he was not happy about getting pulled.
Bad move Jerry.

Saturday’s game was outstanding. Often you see a pitchers duel but last night we saw a managers duel, the two Manuals playing all the right moves, and Jerry in particular made excellent use of his bench, so good job Jerry, maybe I forgive you for the Santana fuck up. Excellent game!

We lost two players yesterday; Maine with what should be a minor thing should not be a deal. But I am concerned about Church who had to leave the game for dizziness. Now that will happen after a concussion, those symptoms could last all season and come back from time to time.
I hope that’s all it is.

So today we have Perez, which one no body knows, but if he can pitch as well as he did last time out I will be one happy Italian. He made some adjustments I have not seen before, so maybe he is going to come around the way Pelfrey has.

Hey guys is it me or are we breaking a hell of a lot of bats lately? I have never seen so much lumber break apart like now. The bats must be too light, and somebody’s gonna get hurt.

One last thing about last nights game, who was the genius who called the rain delay, Like 5 drops of rain fell and they pulled out the tarp. We ended up with a 12 minute totally unnecessary rain delay. Ridiculous.

Good luck today to both the Mets and Yankees. Oh, and St Louis too.
Can’t forget Abs.;)

Sausy, you mentioned the walk off homer to end Weds game. I’ll tell ya what, I love walk off wins only when it’s a Mets pitcher walking off the mound. ;)

I knew you were a closet Cardinals fan!

(although I totally know what you really meant..lol)

Thanks for the props sonny and Sausy

Although I totally know what you are talking about in terms of the rains delays as of late sonny. We had a rain delay when the Mets played STL last week and it wasn't even raining?!? WTF?

I understand a pre-emptive tarp covering, but jeez 12 minutes is a little ridiculous...let them play it out - they are grown men! Plus I like wet, white Cardinals uniforms! !oops!

I don't want to speak about today either. Boo Cubs. :grrr:

I knew you were a closet Cardinals fan!

Well babe, the thing is, as long as they are not in my division and play as well as they do, I will always support and watch em play. The cards have an awesome team, I epochally respect their pitching. As long as they are not playing my Mets of course;)
The are only two teams I will only watch if they are playin the Mets, cause I pretty much hate em, Braves and Phillies.
Of course, I support the Cubs too, cause of you Abs. (*8*)

What a game last night, it went on forever.
Wagner and Sanchez both blew it again, but my man Smith came through for us. Gotta love that dude:D
I ws glad we got to continue after the long rain delay, even though we the Phills had two men on and Sanchez had a meltdown , I did not wanna win a 2-1 complete game did not want to win that way
I wanted to come back and show what we are made of, finish of the Phillies, just beat em to the ground and dance all over em.
Tatis was the hero of the day, (again) I'm lovin that kid.
Manuels needs to reward him tonight and let him play, maybe he could cover third and give D Wright another night off. He chocked again the last two games ](*,)
Not a pretty win, we left 10 guys stranded, which we are doing a lot of lately.
Dr. Jekyll and Oliver Perez (thanks for that name you gave him Sausy) was strong again, how bout that..| He likes pitching from the middle of the rubber, Peterson would never let him do that, big mistake I guess.

Ok Pedro, it's up to you dude, can u give us a series win?
That would be sweet.

Update on Church, it seems what he had was a bad migrain, which can happen in a post concussion period. He may get those for a while. But Chavez is doing an aweome job out at right and with hois bat, so he is a great alternative for Church.

I guess Schnider got the message about having to split catching duties with Castro. It was clear Jerry wanted Castro's bat in the game cause lately he is a better offensive player than Brian. So Brain came through big time on Saturday and got his catching spot back last night. That's what Manuels does, he rewards good playing with the line up card. ya gotta love that.

Meantime, I jus gotta mention my team played Friday and Saturday and we won both games. I played third as aways, but next weekend I get to pitch again. I'm jus counting down the days boys, countin down the days. :D
I love when they let me pitch ..|
