New York Mets 2008

terrrible game - from the moment we got there - maine was off - lance berkman is a beast - love him - he's the anti steroid guy IMO - he hit a BOMB

mets never got untracked

left in the 6th to make a dinner - it was awesome - he just left my place

he and i share the mets - which is great

and much more

i can take a loss every now and then

johnny maine is still one cute MOFO ;)

Glad you and the bf had a good time, and you both are huge Mets fans, chance.Too bad the game stunk to high heaven, though.Maine won't be 100% this season, and he will have surgery for a bone spur in his shoulder that seems to be preventing him from being sharp and consistent.Hopefully he can pitch well enough consistently enough the rest of the way,but he is definitely not himself now and his frustration and disappointment in himself is obvious. His problem is there was no movement on the fastball despite the good(91-93)velocity on his fastball.Maybe he won't be himself again until getting another spring training under his belt in the inaugural CitiField 2009 season. With the sudden movement to conserve the innings on Pelfrey and Pedro's still debatable consistency game to game(and stamina to go at least six)the pressure is building on the starters again...the onus falls on the bullpen and the offense to do their fair share, and in the last two games, both have been glaringly deficient in key situations.Allowing yourself to be beaten today by a two run homer by Brad Ausmus is unacceptable.Wright,Reyes and Delgado have been really unimpactful in these two losses....and this is after the Mets defeating the only real quality starter Houston has in the tough, gritty Roy Oswalt only because Johann Santana was a little better. The Mets still could only score 3 runs in that win, though.

It was a really nice dream, sonny but you said it...turned out to be a nightmare.Today even more as Ollie was decent but didn't dominate and Heilmann and Feliciano were awful.Carlos Beltran was magnificent with two homers,he may be starting a surge just as the rest of the big players are becoming very quiet.Love Brian Schneider and he has been showing clutch power recently, but the whole lineup has to start getting back into synch....or else maybe they should have reactivated Luis Castillo. It came as a surprise to me that he supposedly requested to be held out a while longer.

Sad news for Maine, I agree with a lot of guys who feel he won't be back till spring. That spur is a bitch, it prolly won't get much better with rest. John may have to have it cut it out. With the day off Thursday we don't need John till Tues 9/2, I imagine we may see Niese brought up, Niese, 5-1 with a 3.65 ERA I think that's 5 or 6 starts at AAA New Orleans. I'll tell you I would not want Johnny, with him hurtin, going up against those Brewers anyway.
So cause Maine is on the DL the Mets were able to activate Castillo, so it was just as I thought, it wasn't cause he wasn't ready but rather the Mets wanting to hold off till they had a spot. I figured after 9/1 with the roster expansion but Maine made it possible to do it now. luis had a good defensive day, not much at the plate but still I did not hate having him in the line up as much as I thought I would.
Another complete game for Pelfrey, man oh man he is turning into quite the superstar.
I hated when that son-of-a bitch ruined Mike's shutout in the 9th.
I mean 9-0, they weren't gonna win anyway, besides, the Astros are no longer in the running for anything, not even the wild card, so why don't they jus lie down and go away. Yeah, I know, goofy talk, but it pissed me off and I had to vent about it. Abs, your Cards have em this weekend, I want you to be sure and kick their sorry butts, OK babe?

I am salivating over the games coming up, the Phillies, Marlins and Brewers.
Oh man, I can barely stand the excitement. Verrrrrrrrrry important games.
Our boys have gotta kick some serious butt here, I don't just want Mets wins,
I want blow outs. I am making no plans this week, just me, my boys and baseball. Oh, and some pizza and Bud. :D

I was so bummed last night I couldn't post, but damn I think it's a huge boost if we hold on.We'll take advantage of whatever the Philies give us!:DCarlos Delgado,if the Mets win the division deserves real consideration as MVP....and we should bring him back one more year with the production he's giving.

1-2-3 bottom of the 8th

our manuel ............. has feliciano and smith do the job

Carlos has a one year option, that's why I think he'll be back.David is up there, but Carlos has been amazing these past two months!..|
I'm loving Daniel Murphy....tough,professional and loves a challenge, and burned Lidge with that clutch double giving the Mets the lead that Schneider added to.

my bad sausy - thought Carlos was in the last year - how much is his option for? big big? guessing Omar will need to create some payroll space

agree on Murphy - course im irish so im partial ;)

charlie manuel got skewered by the mets announcers - thought a little harsh on their part - wanna see how philly papers react

great great win

Yep,chance!Such a great win...Mets didn't bounce back earlier in the year from tough losses but this one was so good to see. They got up from the floor, dusted themselves off and just did what they had to do to win.

No problem, chance. The option is for $12 mil.For Carlos Delgado's impact in the lineup, for one more year it's a bargain.Gotta bring him back, after 2009 maybe Nick Evans or Dan Murphy can go to first as super prospect Fernando Martinez would have had a full year of Triple A seasoning and should be ready(if he has a strong season he'll probably be up to the Mets before September). To me it looks like Murphy really could be a top flight all around hitter.

From what I hear that's all Charlie Manuel gets in Philly.Nitpicked or skewered, depending on how good or bad the day was.;)

I'm partial to a few Irish folks around these parts!;)

Surprised my fellow Italian sonny hasn't chimed in with some happy comments about the game!

Nice posts Sausy and Chance. ..|
I did not post about that game on Tuesday cause, well…..you can imagine ](*,)
The thing is I received text and calls from my “friends” many of whom are Yankee fans (poor bastards)
Saying ”Oh man that bull pen sucks” etc. but we gotta remember it was not the bull pen that lost the game, it was Pedro’s 5 run inning and the Offensive that went into a comma for 9 innings after Pedro left. In fact the pen did not do that bad at all in those late innings, just that killer single to score the winning run, So let’s put the blame where it belongs.
But true to form the Mets came back Wednesday and did what they have not been doing and that is scoring in late innings. It’s what they do; it’s why they are the amazins.:D

Good to see Murphy get that game changing hit, he has not been hitting the ball as well as he had been but that was to be expected. News travels fast in the league and the other teams had figured him out that’s all. Not to worry.

Chance, you mentioned Charlie Manuals, man what the hell was he thinking allowing Lidge to stay in the game and pitch to Delgado, walking Church to get to Murphy. .He seemed just a little lost Wednesday night.

Sausy, who would have thought back in June or July that Delgado would be playing like an MVP. It is interesting the turn around he has had right after Willie left. I am with you, I want D Wright to get it MVP, I know his offense has good days and bad but they are mostly good and his defense has been nothing short of spectacular. Can’t leave Reyes out of the running as well, he has been on fire. If you think about it there are not a whole lot of guys in the NL who stand out as candidates this year. It’s all Mets.

As for Delgado’s future, the Mets will have a tough choice to make, after all he did have a lousy season till August and many counted him as dead and gone next year. If he keeps up the pace through September and the post season, they will I think bring him back.

Should be interesting to see what happens when the roster expands, I am racking my brain wondering what Omar will do for September especially with the stating rotation and relief, lots of options available, and it is all very exciting. We now have Ayala, Figueroa and Stokes making the pitching better and maybe we will get Wagner back. I hope Wagner does not end up like Maine who I think is gone for the season, but I have my doubts.

The Florida series will be awesome, those fish are hungry, very hungry, and the Mets need to shut them down before we go to Milwaukee. Then the Phillies again I can’t stand it, to much excitement, gotta go lie down

Great post as always sonny.Delgado has had two vastly different seasons. The underperformer who looked washed up by June and as the Mets started turning it on approaching the All Star break, just on fire MVP candidate.Whether Willie's firing had something to do with it,I don't know. But his performances warrants the exercise of his option and I'd love to see Murphy at first after that.He isn't a great defender but always gives maximum effort and a transition to first is something that woud be a very good idea for the future of this team....he appears for real as a hitter and certainly will make the adjustments he needs to to keep on getting better. That double against Lidge showed he doesn't rattle easily.

I mentioned previously about the tendency the Mets offense shows in the worst times to explode early and stall late. They responded Wednesday night as they should.Did you see that play by Wright late in the game, that amazing reaction and throw?!:gogirl:Just had to throw in a gratuitous David Wright shout out!;)

Poor Yankees.....at least they got one from Boston yesterday but the cow is really out of the barn and off the pasture.;)A-Rod had another horrendous game at the plate!:eek:His stats this year are meaningless, and Yankee fans will let him know it ALL winter.

Florida and Milwaukee big tests for the Mets the next couple of series...hopefully they will bear down and take both series.

:gogirl:.............:p:wave:

Oh Brad, your just havin too much fun ;)
I am as well, razin all my Yankee fans,

That's the plan!;)The way the Yanks are being with ticket prices in the new Yankee Stadium....$2,500 for seats that cost $500 this season for their best seats(Mets are raising prices but at far less the rate than the Yanks are for CitiField)...I might actually start loathing them!;)

MMM Youkilas ass.The look on Mike Lowell's face is PRICELESS:badgrin:

Oh baby, what Sausy and I would give to see David Wright do that on stage. *faints*

I think the way A-Rod is playing, Hankenstein may have to offer discounts.
I go to watch the Cyclones play in Brooklyn as often as I can, and they play better than this current Yankee team.
