Well, a lot to celebrate about last night’s game.
We finally won one in Atlanta, and with the Phillies loss we got back to first place.
Really a terrific game, typical of a pennant race game, sooo much fun.
Jose Reyes continuing with his September come back with a shot off a breaking ball to start the game with a run.
Unfortunately D Wright did not get his groove back yet, in fact he was just plain awful in early innings both at the plate and on the field. He actually committed two errors but was only charged with one. Then he redeemed himself a little by bringing in two RBIs. Church continues to struggle, and although he feels fine with no ill effects from his injury, has yet to start producing nearly as well as before he got hurt. If only David and Ryan could get it together we could be in great shape. They will, I jus no they will.
The hero of the game for me was of course Daniel Murphy, that kid MUST PLAY EVERY DAY and with a load of righty’s coming up to pitch, I am sure he will. Evans had a good day also with a solo homer but prolly won’t be back over the next few days at least not against the righty pitchers.
I got really worried when Ollie went only 6 innings, I thought, damn the pen is going to have to get 9 outs. Yikes, were doomed, check please.
So then, as Gary Cohen calls it, the circus parade began.
First up Figueroa, who bombed so after two batters here comes Jerry,
NEXT!
Out comes Rincon and one batter later here comes Jerry again,
NEXT!
Out comes Heilman, (oh God just shoot me now), but he got the out we needed.
However that was all Jerry was gonna trust him with so,
NEXT!
Out comes Feliciano, who also got the out he was brought out to make, so all in all not a bad pen outing.
Next up Brian Stokes, and man did he ever deliver, with two awesome innings to shut em down and win the game.
There is still talk about Maine coming back as early as Monday. Possibly in a bull pen situation. I am ok with that a long as he does not hurt himself, I only want him back healthy. He still has the spur that needs attention but if he can pitch a couple in relief I say why not, The Mets just have to be careful and not make the same mistake they made with Church. But I gotta tell ya if the doctors think its ok and John comes out in the 8th or 9th I will be in pig heaven for sure. Another thing to be concerned about is Stokes, he has, for the most part, been good for us, don’t want the Mets to just push him aside for Maine.
Abs will hate me for this, but I was sorta hoping the Cubs would have clinched this weekend, that way when we see them next week they may rest their big guns. They lost to the Cards on Friday so it may not work out that way for us.
Abs, I know, I am a bad boy, but I hope you understand it’s nothing personal, but it’s my Mets, and I want every advantage for them.
So Pedro tonight which means a lot of work for the pen. Maybe he will go six although I don’t expect him to go more than five. I hope to see Knight and Parnell in there and of course Stokes.
