Meanwhile in David Wright news.
David was one of the winners of Silver Slugger Award which honor the best offensive player at each position, selected by managers and coaches

David held his fourth annual ‘Do the Wright Thing’ gala Wednesday night with performances by David Cook. This event is held to benefit David’s charity foundation.
The foundation, which he founded in 2005, provides aid and assistance toward the health, emotional development, and education for children in need. Through programs and annual events, the foundation strives to enhance the quality of life for children of the New York, Tri-State, and Norfolk, VA metro areas. Any more questions about why I love his guy?

Like my friend Sausy I have resisted making predictions about what will happen over the winter or indulge in all the rumors and could-a-should-a-would-a.
But yesterday something happened that needs to be written about.
Pedro Martinez, through his agent, has said he wants to play for the Mets in ‘09
I just have to repeat what I have written before, Pedro has got to hang it up.
I love the guy, he was one of the best, but it’s over and it is time for him to go home to his
beloved Dominican Republic.
I am kinda surprised by this action on Pedro’s part, I thought he would have seen the writing on the wall and accept the fact that his time is up and he would have bowed out gracefully and not return. Or Perhaps it’s the same pride that is keeping him from quitting. Either way, four inning limit Pedro cannot come back in ‘09 not even as a fifth starter.
The Mets will need two starters, yup Ollie needs to go as well, and that is what Omar must do. Lets begin with Lowe and forget Sabathia, the Yankees are going to get him, they will not let the same thing happen as it did with Santana…not again.
But the Yankees want Lowe as well, so Omar needs to get that deal done before it’s too late. Then we need to rework the pen, which as we all know was a nightmare last year. Once again no speculation here, just get it fixed, beginning with a closer. Oh, and that would K-Rod.

The poison pen, as Sausy calls it, was on of the main reasons the Mets did not win the pennant. They also cost Santana a Cy Young.

I have been keeping watch on any news on Daniel Murphy's injury.
As I told you guys he injured his knee playing in the Arizona Fall League.
He has not played since it happened on 11/10, and continues to be bothered by it.
As a precaution, Murphy is in New York today to have an MRI on the knee.

I so hope the test does not show any thing that will keep him out for much longer. Problem is, the longer he is out the less chances of him playing second next year. The Mets will move on maybe to some one like Hudson (they will prolly do something like that anyways) and Murphy will hopefully play at left with Tatis.

Daniel Murphy had his MRI and it reveled a Grade 2 strain of his right hamstring.
That is better news than it could have been. What it does mean is that Murphy will skip winter league ball in Puerto Rico so that he can be ready for Spring Training. He went home to Florida for now and should be fine for spring training. In fact, he will likely begin working out, doing outfield drills in Florida following the holidays.
He will be fine just needs a little rest.
I heard Omar on last nights Hot Stove say that Murphy is expected to play in left field
and not at second. That’s kinda what I wrote about yesterday and was expecting. It will give us a deeper bench with the lefty Murphy and the righty Tatis both in left field along with Chavez and Gomez.
The Mets threw a monkey wrench in yesterday when they added minor-leaguer Mike Carp to their 40-man roster, he is a first baseman but the Mets have said they want to make him into a left fielder, but I am confused by that cause the kid is not a good defensive player, although he can hit. My understanding is he’ll start the season at Triple-A next season, and play between first and left field but you can expect to see his name pop up in trade talks cause we don’t need him. Remember Mike Jacobs?

More frightening was the news that Heilman does not want to be traded, he wants to return, but wait it gets worse, he wants to be a starter.:help:
Is he delusional, nuts or both? He also pretty much said he wants to go if he can’t start, maybe go to a team that would make him a starter.
All I can say to Aaron is, B-Bye.

Expect a lot of controversy over this; trust me there will be a lot of people who will say give him a shot. ](*,) I also think a snowball has a better shot in Hell than he does of getting into the starting rotation for the Mets.

Still waiting….Where is K-Rod ????

Hey Sausy, you have been quiet through all this, whatta you think??

Hey Sausy, you have been quiet through all this, whatta you think??
I know:(...I'm sorry sonny!I've got to get my baseball timing back!Yeah,I read in the Daily News that Murphy says he can get back to running drills right after the New Year, can work with weights pretty much now but not over do it.

There are rumors they will go after Raul Ibanez,a left fielder wh is a nice player but going on 37...the thing Omar is to get younger and more athletic, not bring in a new member of the over 35 set.I hope Daniel Murphy plays so well he pretty much becomes the every day left fielder. And Fernando Martinez emerges sometime this year for right field... if he can keep healthy will be a great offensive player who can play a solid defense, too.

Heilmann does have value and should be traded....you are right,he has a snowball's chance in hell of joining the Mets starting staff anytime soon.

I think they are trying to sort out the market and as the only big market team really needing a closer, they don't want to set the market just to bid against themselves. They don't want to go five years or even guarantee four for Francisco Rodriguez and even may look at Kerry Wood for a shorter term solution...health though is a worry. They aren't convinced about Brian Fuentes and have some real questions about those closers who are being bandied about in trade talk. They are very interested aggain in Huston Street, getting good reports on his velocity and looking at him at minimum a very effective eighth ining guy,if not a closer.Bobby Parnell and Eddie Kunz are going to get long looks ths season potentially as well, see if their promising arms can handle the late inning responsibilities.

Starting wise,I don't know where they are going to go.The money being offered these days(Ryan Dempster gets four years,52 million for one good year)are ridiculous...and other starters are going to want to better that.I don't see us going after Sabathia and don't feel optimistic as of now they are going to be aggressive in reversing the grave disappointments of these past couple of seasons.Even the name of the stadium might have to be changed from CitiField if the news is correct that CitiGroup may go for a merger with another bank after having a huge dropoff in earnings.....not so much good news for the Mets these days!:(

Kevin Burkhard so hot(to which you personally can vouch, sonny after the restroom incident)!:p

aND I thank you for another terrific pic of David Wright....he is such a babe:luv: but the things he does for the community really makes him special. We are so fortunate to see this guy play here every day and represent himself and the Mets so well as a person!..|

Yay, Sausy’s back :D

I should explain in case some of you guys did not read the post about me and Kevin Burkhardt. "The bathroom incident" is not what it sounds like (Sausy you are soo bad) I simply ran into Kevin at Keystone park during a Cyclones game and started up a conversation with him. He could not have been more gracious in giving up a few minutes of his time to talk baseball with me.
Then in the end I gotta a little second degree of separation when I shook the hand that shook the hand of David Wright. :D

As far as the Citibank problem, Citigroup could be purchased by Goldman Sachs or JP Morgan Chase. So what happens to the $20 million over 20 years for the naming rights of the Mets new ballpark?
what I have learned is that, despite the financial state of Citigroup, a team spokesman has said all is fine with our naming rights deal for Citi Field.” So basically if Citigroup is bought, it will retain its name and the deal with the Mets will remain in tact

I have been waiting for word on K-Rod, so is his agent by the way, who is waiting for the Mets to finalize an offer.
Today I hear The Mets have targeted Seattle closer J.J. Putz as a priority.
They wanna sign him for 2009 at $5 million with an option for 2010 at $8.6 million or a $1 million buyout,Now I am sure that is a lot less than what they would pay for K-Rod or even Fuentes, but come on guvs open those wallets.
So now I dono what the fuck is going on. But I am getting very impatient with Omar, but I waited for Santana so I guess I can wait for K-Rod and Lowe.
But Omar needs to make a move. he has to agree on a deal longer than three years. K-Rod wants a five-year deal, but the Mets won’t even offer a fourth year to K-Rod or any other closer.

The other thing bugging me is Omar’s love affair with Castillo who has said he wants back and will play hard an do better than last year.
Really Luis? All of a sudden the old you is back and ready to prove your days are not over? Your knees are not gonna cave? Well tell ya what, go do that somewhere else. The Mets need a new second baseman like Hudson for example and NOT Castillo, I know, I know I have said this over and over but it’s just that every other day I hear Omar saying Castillo could be back. I am getting very frustrated by it. Now I know Castillo has three years and $18 million left on his contract, but that was a mistake and the Mets will now have to eat it rather than have him struggle and fumble around at second base.
I tell ya if Castillo comes back and falls on his ass as I know he will, the fans are gonna tear down Citi Field brick by brick. And lynch mar to the nearest tree.
HE’S GOTTA GO!

Ok, ok, I promise no more rants about Castillo and Omar. Well ……maybe with my fingers crossed.

Here is more DWright, cause that always makes me feel better

I think we need to relax a bit as far as what the Mets are gonna do. Omar usually surprises with something not on the radar, sometimes good, sometimes not so good. Maybe he's just talking up Castillo to make him seem better for a trade. The Mike Carp thing is I think to protect him on the 40 man roster, and not lose him for nothing in the Rule 5 draft, which I think happens at the winter meetings. It's very possible he'll be used in a trade to an American league team as Sonny suggested. I'm sure Omar will get one of those relievers, just don't know who.

Yeah, I know you are right, I just get a bit intense about all this.
But I keep getting the feeling Omar is dragging his feet on this pitching issue, He even said he would consider Heilman back. Fortunatly Aaron does not want to be in the pen any more.
I don't want a lot of changes outside of pitching, but I do want someone else at second.

Oh and I keep fporgetting to say
How about Captain David Wright. It's time

About second base, I was hoping Murphy would be the answer, but that doesn't appear to be in the cards, but a step up from Castillo is needed. I could see "Captain" Wright in the future, without knowing the clubhouse chemistry, don't know if it'll be sooner or later.

Yeah I wanted Murph at second but that ain't happen now, but his time may still come. Meantime lt him pay at left. BUT we gotta get rid of Castillo,
oops there I go again.;)
As for DWright, the chemistry is electric between him and the other players. he is very much loved and respected even by the veterans like Delgado and Beltran

David has always been the go to guy with the media and the players, and always knew the right thing to say. He is very supportive of the other guys and never talks negative about any of them, even when they deserved to be.

He is the unofficial captain, time to give him that C for his uniform.

So while we wait for word out of the winter meetings, I just heard David Wright, Nick Evans and Daniel Murphy took batting practice not long after the season ended, before the grass was installed, and that they seemed pleased with the park’s dimensions and how the ball carried. The 16-foot wall in left field makes it a little difficult to pull home runs back, but the fence is noticeably lower in center (maybe 12 feet or so) and even lower in right. Like a couple a kids in a candy store, ya gotta love it. I can so relate

THE GRASS IS DOWN, THE GRASS IS DONE (!)(!)
Citi field has grass..can ya smell it??? baseball season???
Well ok, so maybe not yet;)
BUT...THE GRASS IS DOWN THE GRASs IS DOWN!!!!!

Nice, Sonny, saw pics of the clubhouse in the online version of NY Daily News this a.m. Looks like a great stadium!

Thanks, I had not seen that.
They have also been showing pics of Shea or what's left of it.
Kinda sad to see, but then when you see Citi Field the sadness disappears.

Great smile, guns and crotch in the first pic, great crotch and typical David Wright intensity and focus in the second.Dave can't take a bad picture!:D

I'm a bit worried like you about the Castillo thing...seems Castillo begged the Mets to give him a second chance and it appears Omar Minaya may yet grant that. This is a club that fucked up two years in a row.....George Steinbrenner in his prime if he owned the Mets would have nuked the team and kept only Wright,Reyes,Pelfrey,Beltran and Santana. He overreacted in his day but the Wilpons and Minaya underreact. There needs to be a substantial change in the arttitude of the players, which may well mean some turnover of key positions to gritty gamers who would never allow themselves to suffer from lack of conditioning or proper motivation.Another strong starter to replace Oliver Perez would be advisable, and let's get the bullpen straightned out soon, closer and support staff. We need a change of attitude,a determination to win back the hearts of the fans...the management position so far seems to be underwhelming,a minor tweaking that does nothing to get this Mets club in the frame of mind to overcomethe heartbreaking failures of the previous two seasons...there is no sense of urgency on their part when there damn should be.

OK, I'm a Phillies fan. But I can't hate the Mets! I was at Shea Stadium for my birthday this summer! I ALWAYS make sure David Wright is on my fantasy team! I'll be at CitiField as soon as it warms up. (I was at Yankee Stadium last May on a cold cold cold cold night).

Thanks for keeping me up to date on what's happening.

 Yes you can hate the Mets, yes you must hate the Mets

Go Phillies

Just cause I know the boys have missing that.
