New York Mets 2009

Hey!
Good to see you all! I know, it's been rough in the early going. People here are saying that the National League East is pretty evenly matched. (We'll forget about the Nationals.)

Last night the Phillies broadcasters were crowing that the Phils have only 3 errors so far this season. The Nationals have 21.

I was looking at the Mets schedule and I want to go to the day game against the Cards at CitiField on Thursday, June 25. I know some of you can't get a weekday off, but I'd love the company if you can! Let me know and I'll get tickets.

And just so you know... Gay Community Night at the Phillies is Tuesday, August 4, against the Rockies at 7:05 pm. Details are actually on the Phillies' website! http://philadelphia.phillies.mlb.com/phi/ticketing/group/gcn.jsp

You make avery good point that Sausy and I did not comment on. It is an open race with most of the NL East. The Nats just can't to seem to get a break and oh my yes their defense is really shabby. Defense is the one thing that keeps the Marlins from becoming the team to beat. I wrote in another post if the Marlins get their defense working watch out.

I could not go to Citi then, I sure hope someone on JUB can ;)

Mets were off yesterday so not much going on.

Brian Schneider return has been delayed again, this time by a sore right calf, Schneider was eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list on Sunday.
The Mets now are saying his return has been pushed back indefinitely.
So it looks like we will have Omir Santos around a bit longer.

Short and sweet Mets report;)....we won 7-4 tonight....Pelf was aii'ight....the offense showed some fight....Putz and Rodriguez, and say good night!:gogirl:

I can't attend then either, sorry thad and sonny....
though I should be vacation when the Cards come in for a two game series
August 4-5.My brother and I want to attend the Wednesday,August 5 one,an afternoon game.

It would be great tosee everything CitiField has to offer, and hopefully the day ends happily with a Mets clipping of those Redbird's wings!

The best thing was we beat the Phillies! We flame broiled those cheesesteak heads!:gogirl:That rolls so well of the tongue!!:p

Scrub,ya really thought I was gonna be nice about it,lol?!!!

I would just like to add my 2 cents to what saucy wrote about yesterdays Mets win.
As Saucy said Pelf was alright, got into trouble a few times but came away with the victory, pitching 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and four walks. This makes Pelf 3-0 and he dropped his ERA a bit down to 6.00. He also just missed a 3 run homer (how great would that have been) and drove in two runs.
A very important thing to mention is D Wright awake from his coma yesterday to go 2-4
including a double. Oh Man was that ever great to see. I dono if any of you guys have ever seen David’s eyes when he is on first.
The camera will often show how he darts his eyes back and forth between the pitcher and the catcher trying to catch the signs. He is of course looking for a breaking ball to run and steal on. Yesterday he got burned and picked off but I love watching those intense eyed looking for the right pitch to try and steal on.
Watching Beltran slide and beat the tag at home was also a great site to see, I thought he had forgotten how to slide.
Oh and another fun moment was watching the Phillies walk Feliciano, man that was awesome. Pedro had not been up to bat in a long long time and I did not expect much from him. Funny, but when he came up to the plate I said “well the best we can hope for here is walk”, and son-of-a gun if that isn’t what happened.
Of course I have to admit that although it was great to see the guys take the lead early and actually hold it to win for a change, much of the credit for the win has to go to Chan Ho Park who once again pitched very poorly. Thanks Chan. ;)Actually the Phillies pitching so far this year ain’t been that great.

Lefty Jamie Moyer on the mound for the Phillies today and Ollie Perez for the Mets
So what does that mean. Well with D Wright coming around he ought to be able to own Moyer, David loves to eat Lefties, Same for Beltran who will turn around and bat from the right side. Jose Reyes usually hits better from the right. I expect some decent hitting from the guys today. The lefty pitching will prolly bench Church who has been struggling to be replaced by Sheffield. Not sure what Jerry will do about Murphy since we are not to sure yet how well he handles Lefties. But Jerry may reward Daniel for that 2 run homer yesterday and keep him in the game.

Perez may surprise us today and actually have a good outing. Ollie has pitched well against the Phillies and the lefty should be able to own guys like Howard, Utley Dobbs and Ibanez. Still I plan on Watching the game with my breath held and one eye shut
.

watched the game as it unfolded - 6th inning on

felt all along they would lose

damn reyes - instead of the simple sac bunt to put the go ahead run on 2nd - he of course tries 2x unsuccessfully to drag a bunt - and then ks

church then hits a single - beltran then gets a hit but santos gets thrown out at home by werth

if reyes had just done his job - instead of being a freelancer

and i do love reyes - so much skill - so much potential

and of course manuel (philly mgr) brings in lidge with the game tied while our guy will not bring in frankie - instead sean green - who walks the winning run in

this was an old school (as in last 2 yrs) mets game - u knew they would lose

and ollie is now officially a bust - big contract small brain - small brain being his and omar's that is

going wed night vs. the phillies - is that a 2 game series? strange

really down on the mets right now

can u tell??

I hear ya chance, it ain't easy, but...

Ollie “base on balls” Perez must be sent to the minors!

Come on guys, no more fucking around with this, the kid is in big trouble and deserves to straighten himself out. His confidence is completely shattered and throwing him out there again now would be only make tings worse. He will not recover from this without serious help. I expect an announcement from the Mets sometime tomorrow on how they are going to help Ollie. He is just humiliating himself and is letting the team down at this point.
I have to say that I feel really bad for the guy, I believe he has good stuff, we have seen it especaially against the Phillies and lefties. He is just lost and in need of help.
Sean Green disappointed again, we need to rethink his role in the pen.
Feliciano has got to stop giving up homers to left handers.
A big welcome surprise was Ken Takajashi who looked great, we need to see more of him but I am very impressed.

In an interesting turn of events Jerry Manuel was fined an undisclosed amount by Major League Baseball on Saturday for the delay that took place in the bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday against the Marlins. You will remember he pitch hit Santos for Castro and blew the game. I had bitched about this move the other day; I simply could not believe he was capable of such a stupid move. The complaint was about the time it took Santos to get from the bullpen, through a tunnel underneath Citi Field and out to the batter's box. Manual was even stupid enough to admit that he was trying to delay the game and throw Lindstrom off,.

Manuals is really beginning to irate me.

I'm so frustrated right now as a Mets fan sonny and chance I don't want to say much.:(We're not in a good situation right now because we can't count on anyone not named Johann Santana. Can't we start playing a good stretch of baseball and resemble at least a semblance of the contender we're supposed to be?If not,NO ONE should be safe, this organization would need a total change in culture...from Omar Minaya,Jerry Manuel to the players(including but only for an incredible deal David Wright,Jose Reyes,Daniel Murphy and Carlos Beltran).

Hang in here babe. I feel your pain (*8*)

I remain confident that the Mets will turn this thing around. There is just too much talent for it not to. I am concerned about what appears to be a lake of leadership from both manual and Minaya.

So far the only Ollie news came this morning with Ollie being put in the bullpen…for now. Now we hear Ollie had an ice pack on his knee after the game on Saturday. Ollie now claims the knee has been bothering him all season. Hmmm where have we heard that excuse before. Are you kiddin me??

So what are our options you might ask.
Well Ollie could be sent to the bullpen (which supposedly has already happened.
So who pitches in Ollie’s next spot on Friday? Well how bout Takakashi?
He was impressive enough for me to give him a shot.
Next Ollie goes on the disabled list (remember his knee has a boo boo now)
That would mean calling someone up prolly Figueroa or Gee. I would love to see Redding ready by then, we will have to see how his rehab start goes on Tuesday.
Because of yesterday’s rainout, the Mets rotation is changed; Johan Santana will pitch Thursday on six-days rest. followed by who knows who, but one thing you can be sure of it won’t be Ollie.,
More should come out later today, apparently both Minaya and Wilpon, are headed to Atlanta to figure out what to do with Perez. Ah yes, Wilpon is going, which means he is worried about Ollie’s three-year, $36-million investment, Oh yes it’s always about the money.
Here’s a thought, maybe you clowns should not have given him that deal in the fist place.
I mean it’s not as if there were no other options.

Well we finally won one at Tradition field, and that felt good.

John Maine’s fastball had a lot of pop, and he was able to get them to swing at his slider, something he had been unable to do. “Slider got em” was like music to my ears. He did struggle a bit walking a couple of guys early and gave up 3 runs but the important thing here is, as Saucy and I have said in the past, As long as Johnny rebounds and makes the adjustments he needs to make he will be fine. He did go on to pitch six innings, and I loved his reaction in the dugout later, he was all smiles and felling good about himself and that is very important to guys like John.

D Wright continues to enjoy the #5 spot with a double and a homer. I was surprised Jerry left him in that position I figured it would only be against lefties, but what ever works.
With all the talk of David’s troubles, last night we were reminded of just how good he is when he drove in his 500 RBI, David is only the 7th Met to have accomplished that. :=D:

The pen served us well and finished the job for us and Parnell pitched a scoreless seventh. with a killer 98 MPH fastball. J.J. Putz did give up a home run; he just can’t seem to pitch an inning without some drama. But it was Chipper so I guess I can accept that. K-Rod was perfect.

I am sure some of you guys noticed the way I did that the boys seemed feistier than they have been, maybe it was the way they looked. None of em shaved that day and all looked kinda scruffy which I liked. There just seemed to be a good feeling around all of them last night.

How bout those no class Braves fans booing Sheffield last night, what a bunch of idiots. I would have loved For Gary to have gotten a home run and then ran the bases giving the Brave’s fans the chop chop. That would have been sweet, unsportsman like maybe but oh so sweet.:p

So we know now what the plan is for Perez, or do we?
I still believe the best place for Ollie would have been the minors, his RA is now 10I just don’t think he can get the help he needs here, in fact he will get less work than he would in Buffalo and I just dono how he will fix his problems what ever the hell they are. But, maybe Warthen can get the job done, after all is was Dan who when he took over from Peterson was able to get Ollie pitching better. Then Ollie went to the WBC and came back broken, as if he had forgotten everything Dan had taught him. I also don’t know when they will be able to use him in the pen. He certainly can’t be called on to get hitters out in big situations. The most we can expect is maybe a non pressure situation against a lefty and getting just one man out.

So as I guessed Takahashi will pitch in Ollie’s place, we will just have to see how well he can do and how deep he can go. I don’t expect him to go more than 5 innings or at the most 60-65 pitches, he is just not starched out enough to go more than that his first time starting. You can expect the pen to get some extra work tonight, but that does not worry me. Figueroa would have been another good choice and of course I am anxious to see how well Redding does In his rehab start today. Another possibility would have been Niese,

Very intense 9th inning last night.
K-Rod and Delgado had me going ballistic, with shouts of “I don’t fucking believe this” After the inning finally and mercifully ended with a Mets win my phone rang,
it was my dad who said “I NEED A DRINK”

Castillo really fucked up as well, Manual has been on him so many times about making that type of play.

In fairness to Delgado although he never should have dropped that ball, he did break the game open with bases loaded two run single. Who says the Mets ALWAYS leave the bases loaded?

Carlos Beltran continues to be smoking hot with a 16 game hitting streak

Hernandez was sharp through 6 innings, so the starters continue to perform well.
Braves pitcher Kawakami was effective as well. I was surprised our guys did not “get him” after the first 2 innings. I mean the guy was pitching outside almost every pitch, did not matter if the batter was lefty or righty, so what took em so long to figure him out is all I’m sayin..

Santana has been named National League Pitcher of the Month for April.
Johan’s ERA for the month of April was 1.10 which led the NL

Just learned that our boy Daniel Murphy has had 45 at bats without a strike out this season so far.

Speaking of strike outs, D Wright has been doing a bit less of that lately, he was the strike out king for a while there. David took notable exception to what Minaya said to the media about the lack of edge among his leaders (Wright for one) Omar almost implied that Wright was practically laughing off his rough April, which if you know anything at all about David you know that Omar’s remark is total BS. David let his bat answer Omar with two hits, a RBI single and a double, which set up a sacrifice fly to score Carlos Beltran.

Omar, don’t fuck with David Wright, It does not help you, the fans or the team win games What might have helped is your giving Derek Lowe the 4th year he wanted instead of resigning Perez. Oh yeah, by the way, how’s that brilliant move goin for you?

The Mets and PHILLIES :D

Where is Sausy? :(

Hi Sonny

Hey there sweetie, nice to see you here.;)
Great game last night of you love good pitching. Werth and your boys were no match for my boy Santana‘s change up. Chen Ho was awesome. Sweep tonight? Hey, ya gotta believe.
Saucy will be around soon he always has great posts here. I think he is a little down on our Mets right now hopefully the last couple of days have him felling better about them.
:D

Plus, the Mets and Cardinals this weekend!

(!)

Put your broom away Cory, you won’t be needing it this time.
Mets have the first place Phillies to put down
and then the first place Cards.

Great pitching duel last night and totally unexpected. Who knew Chen Ho had that in him. He went toe to toe with Johan and pitched brilliantly, with a no hitter going into the 6th. Daniel Murphy broke that up.
Then of course the one and only K-Rod finished em off as only he can.
Great pitchers duel, a joy to watch.

A change in the drama that is Ollie Perez. He has now been played on the 15-day disabled list with patella tendinitis in his knee
That means we have an open spot and Jonathan Niese will ne brought in and he will pitch in Ollie's spot on Friday instead of Takahashi.
Go get em Jonathan best of luck dude..

Meanwhile I mentioned the other day that Tim Redding was returning to a rehab start with AAA Buffalo on Tuesday against Leigh Valley. The game got rained out so Tim pitched last night and kept Lehigh Valley to one run on six hits and a walk while striking out five. His fastball topped out at 91 mph. He threw 58 of 85 pitches for strikes. If Neice keeps up that pace, expect him back wit the Mets soon.

By the way, big day coming next week with the Mets and Atlanta, Lowe will, go up against Santana.
Imagine all the doo doo on Mets management faces if Lowe was to win. Omar, if that happens you better go and hide cause I’m comin to get ya.

Nice to see the Mets getting on a little roll, especially within the division, thrashing the Braves and Phils this week. Decent to, at times, great starting pitching, nice relief work (KRod's been super), and, dare I say it, some timely hitting. After making Chan HO Park look like Walter Johnson, it was great to see the Mets unload on Jamie Moyer, who had nothing last nite. Looks like Mr. Wright is coming around, after that shot to center. Beltran's been awesome and lo and behold a hit with the bases loaded by Castro. Just need to get Jose Reyes untracked and hitting line drives, not flyouts. His homerun was fine, but the rest of the at bats were nothing to write home about. I'm guessing Putz will close tonite, if needed, since KRod has pitched four straight games. Let's keep the wins coming, Let's go METS!!

No way mister [-X

Won't happen this time, sorry ;)

:p:  Yup, the Phillis are sorry alright

Thanks for that post, Nice to hear from someone else who gets it.;)

Hey Saucy, where are ya dude, your my rock, I know you are lovin how our boys ae playing

Another great outing for Big Pelf.

Our starters continue to pitch well go deep and that is great news.
Even though Pelf struggled a little in the first inning allowing a run, I never worried not even in the slightest. There was a time when I might have thought, OH NO, here we go, but those days are over. Sure enough Pelf got it together, found his command, and began throwing strikes, prolly his two-seamer. I also felt really good about the ground balls he caused the Phillie’s to hit into. He seems like his last start to have a great look of “oh yeah, I can do this” on his face. When batters are topping his pitches you know he is on track.

Once again for the most part Mets pitching did the Phillies in. You guys will remember Wednesday when Santana was on the mound, Charlie manuals marched lefty after lefty out to face Johan and he mowed em down like ducks in a row one after the other. Bing, bang boom.

I gotta mention the incident with Reyes and Victorino. On a pass from Reyes to Delgado, before the tag, Victorino intentionally elbowed Reyes, but it was Reyes who got called for interference and Victorino was ruled safe at second. No, No look at that again, Victorino should not have been given second. But I guess that’s the difference between the Mets and the Philly’s, we don’t need to play dirty to win, obviously the Phillies do.

I had a great time watching Keith Hernandez doing the field play; Kevin was a little under the weather but did come on later in the game. So there was Keith being Keith, cracking me up and enjoying the fans. They even had security with him to protect from overzealous fans, or what Gary Cohen referred to as Keith’s secret service. Those guys get along so well and make the game so much more entertaining than anyone ever has.

Yesterday I mentioned Neise would be brought up to pitch for Perez while Ollie is on the DL, This will be a great opportunity for Jonathan and I am going to be rooting him on. We also have Redding just about ready and will prolly join the team very soon.

Lastly it seems like Angel Pagon’s troubles just keep on-a –commin. We are hoping for him to well again after his rehab for that repaired shoulder, but now we hear he was arrested yesterday. Pagan, who was driving with a suspended license, was originally stopped for speeding, but after a license check, troopers learned Pagan has several warrants out for his arrest for failure to pay traffic fines.
Come on Angel; get your shit together dude.

So Jonathan Niese pitched pretty well last night, about what I expected. I was a little worried about him cause of his sometimes lack of control. Five strike outs and no walks. So he did fine, far better than Perez would have and while I think he should be rewarded with the next start on Wednesday, I am also very interested to see what Reddings got for us. The Mets do have the option of bringing Redding up it will be interesting to see what they decide to do. Plus keep in mind the 5th spot is far from solid, we need to know what are other options we have there. I was sorry Niese did not go deep enough into the game or that the boys did not give him enough run support to give him the win. The win went to Bobby Parnell who pitched very well. Sean Green continues to concern me and K-Rod was off his game and definitely should not pitch today.

Johnny Maine on the mound today

Johathan Niese
