New York Mets 2009

Hey sausy nice to see you back, we missed ya dude.;)

Absolutely, I am good to go with Perez now that we lost Lowe, I don’t want Sheets. There is a good chance that Perez will have matured enough to do the job. Remember when he is good he is outstanding, we can’t forget that. He got married and maybe he will settle in. marriage will be good for him, getting laid on a regular basis does wonders
I also agree about Petitte, are they kiddin. [-X

The bad news is that they have agreed to a one year contract with Sanchez. ](*,)
I want no part of the ’08 pen that blew 29 of 72 save chances. Sanchez in particular ended with an 8.64 ERA. Omar, you’re pissing me off now.
By the way, I hear now that Santana will prolly not play in the WBC. That is great news, he needs to fully recover from that left knee surgery, I want him back strong and playing in Venezuela would be a bad idea.
We have too many guys playin in that thing and I jus hope no one gets hurt.

Better news is A Reyes has been re signed to a minor-league deal. That kid deserves another shot. He really looked good in July and august although he faded after that.
We also just signed Cory Sullivan which gives us another left hander and someone who can play the entire outfield. Lovin that.

I am happy to report thatThe Mets reached agreement yesterday on new one year contracts,
(thus avoiding arbitration) with Ryan Church and Angel Pagan.

John Maine and Pedro Feliciano are still in negotiations.

A lot of guys are worried about Church and whether he will be ok or suffer any more problems with those head injuries he had last year.
My dad said "we won't know till the first time he hits a wall"
Ya gotta love my dad. :D
I wanted him back, maybe we need to have a backup, I dono, I jus happy he will for sure be back,
I like Pagan as well, good to see him return.

I have ben writing about the possibility of Nady coming back to the Mets.
A lot of my friends told me I was nutz, but I liked the dude.
Anyways that ain't gonna happen, Yesterday Nady settled on a one-year, $6.55 million contract,
avoiding salary arbitration.
He will be a free agent at the end of this season.

It appears Omar Minaya just doesn't want to add Manny Ramirez...as immature and selfish as he is,look what he did for a fairly mediocre Dodger team last year, practically willling them into the postseason with unbelievab le hot clutch hitting during the pennant race. The Wilpons seem to have been open to the acquisition of Manny, but left it to Minaya who isn't biting. And David Wright apparently was really enthusiastic about the thought of Manny's explosive offense in the attempt to get the Mets back into post season.Well, his age and ability to play the outfield three more years adequately is a legitimate questiom, but he looks like he still has a couple more monster years in front of him.Ah well.

Freddy Garcia doesn't cut it for me,coming off injuries and never fulfilling the promise of his talent, showing off a pretty damn mediocre career resume. This is a club that has failed its fans miserably the past two years, and Omar is acting as if K-Rod and JJ Putz to close games were the only corrections the Mets needed.Oh,and adding the great Tim Redding, who may be decent against the Phillies but sucked against everyone else going by his dismal career ERA)Cory Sullivan is a really nice addition with his speed and defense, and before last year showed a solid bat.But still,he's our fourth outfielder, that's all.

Hell,re-sign Ollie Perez already(upside hell of a lot better than anyone else being discussed, save the risky Ben Sheets)and get more offensive firepower(How many games did the Mets offense stagnate after an early hot start or fail to turn on the ignition at all, remember?)Omar, you're really doing a bang up job after the great job addressing the abysmal state of our bullpen closing and set up situation ,of pissing Mets fans off.You re-signed Duaner Sanchez, like sonny says one of the most culpable for the disasters of last season's bullpen. You need middle relief you can reasonably rely on to get to our star finishers, but you can't even say you've accomplished that.Great job,Omar!

Your thoughts, sonny and our other Mets fans?

I’m guessin Omar may end up going to four years for Perez and they are getting more and more interested in Ben Sheets. Maybe Omar needs to move fast if he wants Sheets cause Ben met with the Texas Rangers with his agent last night.
Now that we lost Lowe, the Mets may be forced to go four years for Perez ,so if they think Sheets’ arm is okay they might wanna go after him with a one or two year offer.

Now we come to Freddy Garcia, while Ben Sheets tries to convince us that his arm is healthy, and Perez along with BorASS continue to suffer from delusions of grandeur, the Mets sneaked in with Garcia, so we got ask ourselves, can Freddie be the dominant force he once was? And can he stay healthy?

I was interested in hearing about the Mets signing Casey Fossum to a minor-league deal. He who had a good season in ’08. His delivery is very erratic but similar to that of Lincecum. Now I am not comparing him to Lincecum, it’s that delivery that could throw off batters especially Phillies. So could he be the reliever waitin in the wings we need?

As to Manny, The Mets aren’t interested in signing him as some would leave us to believe. Wilpon has now said Minaya has proposed adding Manny. Wilpon went on to denie reports that ownership said no, and that he did not have the opportunity to say no because Omar hasn’t brought it to him as an option. Supposedly Omar and the baseball staff aren’t interested.
The Mets will take a pass on Manny, and put all there focus on adding another starting pitcher,
Sausy, you mentioned David Wright, David believes the clubhouse would be able to absorb a personality like Ramirez and that another bat in the lineup wouldn’t hurt, but knows the decision is up to Minaya. David also said he did not know Manny very well at all, but knows what he’s done on the field, and that’s impressive. When you can single-handedly take a team and carry them into the postseason, and then once you get to the postseason, the numbers speak for themselves.

Ah David, always the diplomat.

OK so now do the Mets need Oliver Perez a bit less now that the acquired Tim Redding and Freddy Garcia?
I don’t think so, and it looks like the Mets do not as well, a contract offer is still on the table, and in fact they may have even raised it. There are reports out there that the Mets are believed to have improved their original offer, which if you recall was for three years and $30 million.
The Mets need another starter, and am thinkin more and more now they prolly value Perez more highly than their second and third choices, Ben Sheets and Randy Wolf. We lost our first choice, Derek Lowe
So what-a-we got, well three starters, Johan Santana, Mike Pelfrey and John Maine plus four others to fight for the two remaining spots. The way it I set up now Redding and Garcia would battle with rookies Jon Niese and Bobby Parnell for jobs in the rotation. Forget Pedro, he is done.

So what is really goin on with Manny Ramirez. I’m tired of all the crap coming from the Mets about Manny, he said, no I did not say, please, who are they kidding, the longer they hold out the cheaper many will be and If they can get him at a two year deal I think the Mets will pounce on him. He will be a bargain.
I love Tatis and Murphy but will Tatis have the year he had last season, no one expected what he did last year, will he do it again? I have more faith in Murphy repeating and getting better. Of course we will still have Nick Evans, Angel Pagan, and Jeremy Reed out there.
I gotts admit I am flip flopin over Manny, thing is, I listened to what my idol David Wright said and now I am starting to think maybe Manny would work as a Met.
If only I could stop thinkin about the shit he has pulled in the past, cause without that he is still an amasing hitter
Manny could hit fourth behind Wright, which is were we need a bona fide cleanup hitter.
Stay tuned

Meantime David Wright has already been going to Citi field to do workouts and BP

Oh they are, sonny, quite indeed(!)....and that smile!:luv:But I digress!oops!...Mets fans appreciate what love and passion David has for the game and for the team.David always is gonna do all he can to make himself the best player he can. He's always going to look to work on all facets of his game,he's never going to play satisfied. The way the Mets really let down their fans the past two seasons, blowing the playoffs with appalling relief debacles and lack of tgimely clutch hitting definitely has left a sour taste in David's mouth, and the dedicated professional he is will do all he can to help reverse that disappointment.

I'm not going to think about Manny unless the Mets change direction and put him on their radar,if they decide to do that.I know he grew up in New York and would,if given the opportunity bust his ass for the hometown. But first and foremost is the starting pitching, and while if healthy Freddy Garcia could offer a tremendous help to the back of the rotation should he make the club....thy have to get off their asses and commit to Ollie Perez or Ben Sheets(Let the Dodgers sign Randy Wolf,he's just another mediocrity to me)If they lose both they don't have the right to be taken seriously as true contenders by anyone, let alone their fans.Get off your damn duff,Omar....sometimes you have to make the bold splash, remember when you went after Pedro, both Carloses and Johann Santana? You need to make a big move to restore morale to the fans and the team....two failed playoff runs does not give you license to try to control events to your liking...show us you mean to win and do what you reasonably can to move in that direction!

Sonny?Where be ya?:confused:TheDiamondbacks just signed Jon Garland so one less
available free agent starter for the Mets to add, though he's a mediocrity who just didn't cut it for me.This waiting for Ollie Perez is taking forever....Ollie's good but he ain't THAT good.

Oh you said it babe, plus they got Garland dirt cheap as well, something like one year in the $6-million-to-$8-million range," WTF, he made $12 million with the Angels last season. Just proves what everyone has been sayin the market has fallen steeply
Meanwhile Omar and BorASS continue to dance. Some wake em up and remind them that spring training is less than three weeks away. Supposedly the two sides are getting closer each day, but Omar is still talking to Ben Sheets and Randy Wolf and was talking to Garland. The Mets have got to get that hole in the fourth spot in their rotation. I have resolved myself to accept Olllie, we could use the lefty.
The Mets seem to be leaning towards giving him four years. Plus I dono about you but I have not heard of any other team that is talking to Ollie. Wolf, the other lefthander has been talking to the Dodgers,

Sheets, the other righty we wanted after Lowe is prolly gonna end up with the Texas Rangers, Sheets lives in Dallas.
So you don’t want to commit to Manny huh? Well no one is more surprised then me on my new interest in making him a Met. It’s just that I have talked to a lot of baseball guys and many have talked me into Manny. Then of course there was David Wright and Jerry Manuals endorsement, which put me over the top. I am ready for Manny.
Lemme end this post with a picture of David Wright. Why?? Well…why not

We can never get too much of David, really hot pic sonny!(!)

A dirty, hot sexy Dave doing his thing on the baseball field!:D

Omar, just get it over with and bring in Ollie....I read sonny in ESPN.com that Ollie apparently only has the Mets really going after him.Just seal the deal and don't assume,Omar...you give Borass a little space,he will take advantage and screw you but good.

I think Sheets is leaning towards Texas, too. He's the only other major name with the real talent to be worth signing left.Wolf's another mediocrity.I just hope something clicks with Ollie and he really focuses this year on being the lights out pitcher he only teases us sporadically with, should he return.

I hope Manny can be revisited by the club despite their protestations of lack of interest or priority. If you can keep it three years,60-70 mil,I think you can get two years of prime Manny at least.I watched Hot Stove on the MLB channel last night and they were going on about how Manny really focuses as a hitter, knows all the ins and outs and is not just a flighty talent but an underrated highly intelligent one, certainly in terms of how to approach hitting and adjusting to various pitchers tendencies. He takes note,he studies.Imagine what he could do for young Fernando Martinez when they bring him up later in the season....he's got all the potential in the world of being a Manny hitter for average and in time outstanding power.Manny makes a good lineup explosive....and allows Carlos Delgado,David Wright and Carlos Beltran to relax and face better pitches to hit as it was a problem at times when they as the core of the lineup pressed and went through inconsistent streaks.

Finally, did you see what just passed over the wire?Aaron Heilman might just get an opportunity to return to the starting rotation after all,as he was traded by he Mariners to the Cubs.Really interesting,to say the least.

"Dirty Hot Sexy Dave".. I love that ;)

I kinda thought that was the case, I had not read anything about other clubs interest in him. BorASS said yesterday tha he fully expects Ollie to be signed before spring training starts, so unless some team jumps out of the bushes Ollie will be a Met.

Totally, I can suport that ..|

and allows Carlos Delgado,David Wright and Carlos Beltran to relax and face better pitches to hit as it was a problem at times when they as the core of the lineup pressed and went through inconsistent streaks.

Yup, we really could use that middle of the lineup bat, I would bat Manny 4th behind David.

Poor Aaron traded again. What’s the deal? Will he be a starter? That is what he really wants to do never mind he would prolly crash and burn. Whatever, as long as he is not a Met.[-X

Meantime the latest on (Pedro. member him?) is that Omar Minaya has expressed interest in re-signing Pedro Martinez. HUH??
I thought we were done with him. But now I hear Omar met with Pedro a few days ago. What for?
Omar you are losing it, I dono what the fuck your game plan is anymore
but Pedro?
](*,)

I liked that hot, dirty, sexy David Wright refrence too, because c'mon....it's so true!(!)Love that you have the "Wright" stuff in your new avatar!..|

Yeah sonny,Omar is REALLY annoying me right now. He's acting like the Mets don't reallly have to do much, but you crash out of the playoffs and break your fans herats two years in a row...you owe your fans an aggressive, positive let's get it done commitment. If you were in that other New York situation, your sorry ass would have been toast by now.You and the Mets owe their fans big time....and nothing less.

I'm not going to say how long I've been a Mets fan because it may give away my age ;).

David Wright has to be one of my all time favorites. I received a David Wright calendar for the holidays and I have it in plain site. I hope number 5 stays with the Mets his entire career.

As far as Ramirez goes, I have my doubts. Great hitter of course, one of the best around and with him in the lineup it would be awesome. However I think he belongs in the American League along with his iron glove, he scares me in the outfield.

I'm going to miss Endy in the outfield, one of the best defensive outfielders I have ever seen.

Castillo has got to go, he is done, finished, kaput.

As of this writing I still don't think they have enough to get to the playoffs.

Great to see Mets fans posting and look forward to your contributions tigre during the season!:DAge ain't nothing but a number!;)

I think most of us really wish to see David Wright be a Met for life, and if he continues and at times betters his current level of play,I have no doubt he will.

That catch Endy made in that playoff classic against St. Louis will forever be etched in the memories of Mets fans.He was a capable enough hitter and what a defensive outfelder!Endy will be missed.

Manny did all right in LA defensively......I think two or three years of the kind of clutch hitting he provides we haven't received consistently makes a strong midle of the lineup scary. And I think his knowledge of hitting and how to approach hitters would do wonders for the Mets best offensive prospect,Fernando Martinez who should be up with the club later in the year, after getting enough TripleAAA seasoning.I'm much more pro-Manny than I thought I'd be.

I really hope Castillo goes so Daniel Murphy can show the second base skills he seemed to have a good handle on in the Arizona Fall League.Castillo was a good player and like Roberto Alomar once did seemed to be a perfect fit for the Mets...but sometimes injuries and a sudden erosion of skills coincide and you can't do anything about it but cut your losses, turn the page and move on.

I would concur with you the Mets aren't championship material yet. They need to tighten up their middle relief(still really unpredictable and shaky, and Duaner Sanchez is back),need one more top quality arm for their starting staff(Oliver Perez or Ben Sheets)and a strong bat for the middle of the lineup with clutch tendencies(aka Manny)would be really helpful too.

I agree with much of what you wrote, Manny has his baggage for sure, and he has his bipolar personality. But his bat is what I am interested most in, as you said his defense in Boston was shaky but he did better in LA. We need his bat in the middel of the lineup, dono if we can count on Delgado to repeat last year.
We still need another quality starter and a good right handed middle of the line up power bat.
In addition, my concerns are as follows
Second base, it seems to be Castillo ill be back, that's not good.
where the Hell is Orlando Hudson?)
Right field, has Church totally recovered, I hear those concussions never really completely go away.
Catching, Schnider calls great games and is excellent with the younger guys, like Maine and Pelfrey, but his offense blows, he had a good finish last year but most of the season his at bats were pathetic
The team as it stands today might make 90 wins, MIGHT, but we gotta get to 90 and above and that can be done two ways. strenghten the starting pitching or get another hot bat. Either way works but we need one or the other.

Great to see Mets fans posting and look forward to your contributions tigre during the season!:DAge ain't nothing but a number!;)

Absolutely, we have too many guys lurking around in here with nothing to contribute, come guys we know you are reading this stuff, join in.

I think most of us really wish to see David Wright be a Met for life, and if he continues and at times betters his current level of play,I have no doubt he will.

The day David gets traded is the day I hunt Omar down and hurt him.

I so agree with that, trouble is the poor guy never really had a spot to fill, he was the mutt of the team an did not get enough respect.

Fernando Martinez who should be up with the club later in the year

Oh baby, I can't wait to see him back, that kid impressed the Hell outta me.

Some good news today, John Maine and the Mets avoided salary arbitration, agreeing Friday on a $2.6 million, one-year contract.
I think Johnny will be back as strong as he was before that problem with the spur. He had it removed and should not be bothered by that anymore.

I am lovin this story.

David Wright is well compensated and well off. He can afford to eat at exclusive, upscale restaurants regularly. That's not his way, though. Indeed, Wright intends to watch the Super Bowl and dine Sunday night in a place most folks wouldn't think of.
He's eating at HoJo's.

Cardinals and Steelers provided by NBC, steaks and burgers supplied by Allen Brothers, high-end retailer, and prepared by, well ... Howard Johnson himself, the Mets' batting coach.

"I'm cooking," HoJo said proudly. "I'm David's favorite restaurant."

Wright has had plans for HoJo's. And now, two younger Mets teammates -- Daniel Murphy and Nick Evans -- are to join him at Johnson's.

The host will be serving more than beef on the last real football Sunday before baseball takes its place on the horizon. Hitting will be more than a side-dish conversation. As casual as this get-together at Johnson's home in Stuart, Fla., is likely to be, work will be discussed.

"They'll probably be the ones who bring it up," Johnson said. "They're the ones who can't wait to get started and get to work."

That just warms my heart, thinkin about those guys hangin, watchin football and eating together, it's just makes me feel good. Can't explain it but it does.:D

Only about 2 weeks 'til pitchers and catchers report!! Getting pumped. WHile listening to Tony Paige/Page?? on the FAN overnite, I thought I heard him say that a Met executive that he is close with, stated that the Mets are talking with Boras about Manny, and things have been going hot/cold for awhile on him. So, there is still a possibility of him ending up in NY with the Mets. Maybe they can get a twofer with Manny and Ollie coming in together.

Hey nice to see you post again ;)

The Manny/Omar/Scott dance is getting old, I'm just waitin to se how it unfolds. Like I said I would not mind having Manny in our line up, not one bit.
Manny and Ollie? I am pretty sure about Ollie coming back, Manny is a big question, he wants to much money.
But let's get the pitching finished which is way more important.
All we have for sure is Santana and Pelf, Maine will have to see how that shoulder feels, he could go either way. Although I am optimistic, we won't know till we see him pitch. Johnny also needs to go deeper this season.
But lets just dream about Pelf coming in even stronger than last year, Maine as good as he was before the shoulder spur thing (but with more depth), and Ollie dominating as we have seen him do when he wasn't in a fog. All that, and a new and improved bull pen and we got ourselves a winning baseball team.

Sonny, loved that story about David Wright joining Daniel Murphy and Nick Evans at Howard Johnson's place.Real good guys bonding and enjoying themselves Super Bowl Sunday.Love him even more because he's never been about himself,or gotten too carried away about the partying and social /gossip scene shit.Seems entirely like something he would do,and Mets fans know how popular a figure Howard Johnson is,not just from his playing days but as a coach.

Just want the Omar/Scott/Ollie/Manny soap opera to end. With spring training staring in two weeks, hopefully things will be resolved once and for all on both Ollie and Manny.I did hear that Bobby Abreu is also a possibility, for a one year deal...he is still a solid offensive player and at least as good as Raul Ibanez who went to the Phillies after being mentioned as a Mets target in the offseason.

I read about John Maine being healthy going into spring training, recovered from shoulder bone spur surgery. His attitude is really positive and encouraging...seems to want to work on a mean streak on the mound and is determined to get back into the really outstanding pitcher he was developing into before the bone spur hindered the bulk of last season. With Mike Pelfrey who will only improve and become even more confident and Johann Santana showing why the Mets invested so much to be their ace...it looks like the front three will do well but the final two spots in the rotation have got to become clear really soon.Hopefully a re-signed Ollie and a Jon Niese or Freddy Garcia can impress and give the Mets a hard rotation for opponents to maneuver against.

Sonny, hope you get my PM before my account is put on inactive status....see you right here again later next month.(*8*)Hopefully Manny will be around as well!;)
