New York Mets 2009

Earlier today I wrote about the drama surrounding the Billy Wagner trade. Well in spite of all the talk and all the rumors, the deadline just passed and what we are hearing now is that Billy gave a last-minute consideration to a trade to the Red Sox, Yesterday Wagner said he planned to invoke his no-trade clause to block a deal, But this morning Billy had second thoughts again making a deal possible. Billy had also said that he only would accept a trade if the team met two conditions. The Sox agreed to one of those conditions, promising that they would decline Wagner's $8 million club option for 2010. But the Sox are less willing to guarantee that they would decline to offer Wagner salary arbitration, making him a free agent without draft-pick compensation.
This freakin story changes every two minutes. I will believe it only when I see it on SNY, hear about it from Brandon Tierney or of course hear it from Billy lips.

Jezz, this is what my Dad calls a horse and pony show.

I will post more tomorrow when what ever the deal is becomes official.

Other news, First reports on Santana is that Johan will not require major reconstructive surgery on his left elbow, but may need corrective surgery or have his elbow cleaned out which will allow him to be ready for the 2010 season.

This to has yet to be confirmed and I will post the whole story tomorrow. But as of now it looks better than originally feared.

All the dust has settled and here is what we have

As I am sure you all know by now, Santana will have season-ending, arthroscopic surgery to remove bone chips from his left elbow.
This is of course is good news in that he won’t need major surgery which might have kept him out for 2010. Actually this is the second time Johan has had this surgery he had it when he was with the Twins in 2003. He returned from that surgery 100% and played very well there is no reason to believe that the same won’t happen this time around and that he will be ready in 2010.
Ron Darling was speaking about it yesterday and said that he had has the very same surgery and returned in top form.
There is a lot of speculation on how well he will pitch and the possibilty that he will eventually need Tommy Johns surgery in the future, Please, I am not going to speculate or even go down that road. Let’s just be grateful that the news is good and Johan being the bull that he is will return in 2010 ready to go.

Next, JJ Putz was supposed to pitch in Brooklyn yesterday as part of his rehab. Well guess what, it was cancelled and he was shut down yesterday and prolly will need surgery on a collateral ligament He will not be back in ‘09

Next, Ollie Perez is having pain in his knee again and is in New York to have it checked out. He will probably not make his Friday start.

Next, Gary Sheffield who left the game last night with “spasms” No word yet what the Hell that means or if/when h will be back.

So let’s see, this is what the Mets injury list looks like now:
Carlos Beltran, knee
Alex Cora, thumb
Carlos Delgado, hip
John Maine, shoulder
Fernando Martinez, meniscus
Johan Santana, elbow
Ramon Martinez, pinky
Jon Neise, hamstring
Fernando Nieve, knee
JJ Putz, elbow
Jose Reyes, hamstring
David Wright, concussion

It is beyond belief and has become a first in not only MLB but in all sports. Totally unbelievable.

The Billy Wager fiasco (no other word can describe it) is just something I no longer have any interest in or plan on discussing, He’s gone…end of story.

Last night I saw some encouraging pitching from Nelson Figueroa, he looked much improved with a lot of life on his fastball. I just wish manual had let him go deeper we need to now how well he can pitch later in the game. Our pitching is a total mess now and we need guys like him and to come through for us.

As I mentioned yesterday David Wright has stayed behind in NY to prepare for his return on September 1st. Well, Citi Field is a big lonely place right now so David is working out with the Cyclones at Keyspan Park in Brooklyn.Yesterday he took batting practice and hung with Cyclone players.
What a treat for those kids, they musta been excited to have him there. I will be going to Brooklyn today to watch David take batting practice
Fans will be allowed into the park to see him starting at three, and then at seven the Cyclones play the Vermont Lake Monsters. You need a ticket to tonight’s game in order to get in at 3 to see David, which of course I got yesterday. It will be a day to remember I can’t wait.:D

It seems to me all this injury stuff really started last year when Wagner got injured, went out for the season, and the Mets sputtered to finish out of the playoffs as the bullpen disintegrated. This year started out with a couple of minor dings, then went into a death spiral as the Mets fell out of contention. Let's hope this is the end of it, and with Wagner gone, (perhaps he was the jinx), we can get back to sound winning baseball in the future. Maybe a return by DWright will change the luck and fortunes of this team. Let's Go Mets!!

Yesterday David Wright was the biggest sport figure to ever walk the planet. He was admired and adore maybe even worshiped by thousands of fans in Brooklyn.
David wore a Cyclones shirt, and lemme tell you he looked outstanding. There was no indication that he had ever gotten hurt.
He came out about 3:45 a little later than expected but then took some BP. He hit line drives to every part of the field, I counted 5 home runs over the left-field fence, and then he took third base (where else) scooped up grounders and threw effortlessly. David was so full of energy he could not stop. He worked that field like he owned it, in between taking ground balls and taking BP he ran several laps of the outfield, He was in a great mood joking around with the cyclone players who were in awe of just meeting him let alone getting to play ball with him.
Saucy and I have been writing about David and his down to earth style, that was so evident at the park yesterday, He was ever so gracious and polite, I think he met, shock hands and signed autographs for just about everyone there. Well maybe not everyone but not that he didn’t try. He symbolizes all that a true sportsman should be. I have to admit my heart was pounding as I got closer and closer to him. When our eyes meet thought for sure I had died and gone to heaven. I have been waiting for so long to meet him. He signed my hat which is now on display in my living room, said he felt great and thanked me for coming to meet him and being a Mets fan. I was to embarrassed with so many people practically in my lap to say stuff like you are my idol or I love you, but I sure wanted to. !oops! In retrospect I am sure it was better I hadn’t. It was short and sweet, like I said he had so many people to greet. But I just can’t stop thinking about it. Yeah I know I sound like a love struck school girl, but OMG I met David Wright!
We often hear stories about David’s love for kids and yesterday I was told another David and his kid’s story. I did not see this happen buy what I was told that while he was signing autographs David got called away just as this kid who was about to meet him. Well he kid was devastated to see David walk away and in fact was witnessed to have started crying. Fortunately someone from the Cyclones saw this and told David, who then went back to see the boy and greet him. But seeing the look of joy on that’s kids face was not enough for our boy David, he took the bat he had been taking practice with, signed it and gave the bat to the little kid. Come on now, is he not awesome. .
David gave a lot of stuff away to the kids in the crowd, e he even gave his spikes away. Some kids got his hat and batting gloves, anything he could think of to give to the kids in the crowd.

A couple of other ex Cyclones were there as well, including Joe Smith ,who was a reliever in 2006 and Carlos Muniz, who was the Cyclones closer in 2004 and 05. David also has an old boyhood buddy Matt Smith, who plays short on the team now. The cyclone lost in ten, 7-6.but remains three games ahead in first place. The final game of the season is just over a week away.

I asked a couple of the Cyclone players the obvious question, what did you think of D Wright. It was unanimous in there love and appreciation for his coming out and being just such a sweet guy. David offered all kinds of advice on hitting, fielding and how to handle pressure situations, and the Cyclones just soaked it up. But all of the guys I spoke with Bobby Shields said it best, David is just so real so approachable, just one of the guys. At no point was he ever Mr. Wright, always “Hey, I’m David”

David said he felt a little sore after the first day but nothing bothering him in his head. Soreness is normal after so long being inactive. David is fine.

I did not see last nights Mets game and in my excitement and rush to get to Brooklyn I forgot to set the DVR. I only know that Pelf lost the game and was not looking good at all.
I hear he loaded up the bases twice, well I can understand that, as I have mentioned many times, Pelf gets all fidgety when there are men on base cause he has to pitch from the stretch. Well I guess he figured out a way to help with that and that is to load the bases, in that situation there is no longer a need to pitch from the streach, so Pelf can pitch from the windup.

Now we know that Ollie Perez will not be back in ’09, well I hate to see any athlete get hurt, but in Ollie’s case it does not appear to be anything serious. At least we won’t have to se that fool pitch, um excuse me, throw anymore this year and if there is a GOD the Mets will somehow get rid of him over the winter

Man our starting rotation is in big trouble, Pelf is now our ace and the rest of the starters are all journeymen. Plus of course these guys can not go deep into the game yet so out pen will be overworked and maxed out. Good Grief what’s next?

With all theses injuries only Pelfrey is left from the original starting day line up. So how long do you suppose it will be before we loose him as well. He has to be concerned about the injury curse and how long before he joins it. Now that Wagner is gone and Putz is not coming back till 2010, is it only a matter of time before we loose
K-Rod to an injury? I’m not wishing or predicting, I’m just sayin.
Speaking of injuries, are any of you guys as worried about Jeff francuior as I am? He is playing with that bruised thumb, but how long can that last and how will affect his game, I mean,it has to affect his game, he can’t hold the bat the same way and catching with two hands will also be an adventure.
Maybe he will last till Wright gets back or syam has it right and the curse will end now with Wagner gone. .

Oh, and did I mention, I MET DAVID WRIGHT!!! :D

Sonny, Congrats on getting to meet Mr Wright, pun intended. Another good effort from Tim Redding helped get the Mets a win, along with Daniel Murhpy's hitting. Lineup hit well all the way thru it, if we could only get some consistency. Read a rumor that the Yankees may have blocked Chris Carter from coming from the Bosox by putting in a waiver claim. Bastards!!! May they choke on a KRod fastball down ARod's throat next season. Will have to wait until after the season for Carter to officially become a Met. Hopefully the Angels will smite the Yankees from the playoffs in a sweep.

Yeah I got a message about that last night.
it looks like the Yankees caimed Carter on waivers, blocking him from being immediately traded to the Mets. That would mean that he will not be traded to the Mets until the off season. The thinking is the Yankees likely claimed Carter, knowing the Sox would pull him back, which will force Boston to keep on their 40–man roster through September.

Suckin Yankees blocked the Mets from getting a look at him this season. Like you said, he'll join the Mets once the '09 season is through and there are no longer waiver restrictions.

Redding was terrific, Hell the whole team was with 17 hits and everybpody contributing, finally a game that was fun to watch again.

HEY!!! almost 48 hours and no new Mets injuries.

Did you hear Manual say he was not going to let Wright play everyday for a while after he comes back from the DL. David is gonna fight that tooth and nail and with every fiber in his body, he is all reved up now and ready to play, he will give Manual a very bad time over this. A VERY BAD TIME

David is home in Manhatten and he goes for his final check up today, and if all goes well with that he will be officially cleared to return on September 1st. I think Manual needs to check with the doctors, and if they say David can play everyday then that is what he should do.

What a thrill to see Misch pitch so well yesterday. I was royally poised off when the Mets sent him down earlier after having pitched four great innings in relief on Wednesday. But happily he is back, and man oh man what a performance He was fearless up against the right hander’s, keeping them off speed and using his curve and change up effectively against them. . –
Too bad Stokes had to come in and fuck it all up. That 0-2 hanging slider was a rookie mistake, I was surprised and angry to see that pitch choice. But in fairness to Brian he has been pitching very well and we all have our off days. It just came at a bad time ruining Misch’s big day.

I told you guys yesterday that D Wright was going in for his last check up in hopes of getting cleared to come off the DL. Well he passed with flying colors and has been given the green light to play ball. :=D:

David immediately set out to rejoin the team; he left for Chicago late yesterday and will be with the team in this weekend to begin workouts. He won’t play until Tuesday in Colorado but one could only imagine ho happy our boy is right about now. The Mets wasted no time setting up a locker for him at Wrigley and his teammates, having heard the good news, hung a Jersey in it. I would kill to be there when he arrives and is greeted by the boys.

David will play on Tuesday but Manual is still planning on going easy on David and will not put him in the lineup on Wednesday. David will prolly fight this but I think we should see how he feels physically after his first game. He is bound to be a little sore, he has not really had the advantage of a full rehab, and it may be a good idea to rest on the second day. After that he if he shows no ill effects he should be back in the lineup everyday. I dono but I think I am gonna get pretty chocked up when I see David in uniform coming up to bat again on Tuesday.
(I am such a girl) !oops! Better than that will be the first time he comes out on the field t Citi next week; the fans are going to wild for him. (I’ll probably cry) :D

damned to be a mets fan at this point. if we stick to our win percentage for the year, we'll finish with a 73-89 record...horrible...utterly disappointing.

also, pelfrey is the only of our originial starters remaining

Once again Parnell stunk up the mound yesterday. His pitching was all over the place, he had no spin on his fastball, which had a wacked out difference in velocity. I swear Bobby had no idea where those pitching were going, he was chocking on the ball too much, making it a tough day for Schneider as well. Bad pitch selections with too many breaking balls, seriously one of the worst outings I have seen in a while. But Perez in his last time out has him beat. Can someone explain to me why Manual left that kid put there so long? After four innings and over 100 pitches, Jerry put him back out there in the fifth. Even after he loaded the bases in that inning Manual left him there and what followed was a grand slam. Jerry what were you thinking?

Ex Met Aaron Heilman looked pretty good pitching in relief for Chicago, although the dude has put on too much weight, put the fork down Aaron.

I loved those two Mets fans in the stands wearing bandages and neck brace to symbolize the Mets injury situation, very cute. ;)

Of course the highlight of the day for me was Seeing Wright take batting practice and looking happy in the dugout goofin with Nick Evans.
David described himself as "head cheerleader." While he is waiting pout the last days till he returns. Yesterday David said he felt good and was no longer experiencing any post-concussion symptoms. I wonder how he will feel when he steps up to the plate for the first time on Tuesday. David said yesterday he doesn't expect to be tentative, but couldn't be certain. He went on to say "Nothing's in the back of my mind," Wright said. "But until you step in the box, you don't really know."
David finally responded to Manuals idea of resting him after Tuesdays game, He is not out to pick a fight but made it clear he wants to play every day. “We have a great relationship David said of Manual.” I know he wants to do only what’s best for me, I appreciate him trying to look out for me, But we have obviously all of September left and I want to go out there and try to finish as strong as possible."
He also said for the first time that although he was reluctant to go on the DL in the first place, he was glad the Mets made the decision for him. Instead of rushing back.
David has been in constant contact with team doctors and neurologists, and will continue to talk with them after he returns next week. But he said the concussion is no longer a concern.
David also joked that the doctors said “I have a big brain for a baseball player, so I'm fine” :D

The boys will not be flying out to Denver tonight; they will be taking a little time to chill in Chicago and head for Colorado in the morning..
Mothers lock up your daughters

Parnell needs to get some movement on his fastball, velocity is fine, but straight as an arrow. I think Manuel wanted to try and get him thru the fifth, but that didn't work out now, did it. ANother baserunning blunder with nobody out, just mind boggling. Need some fundamentals training in the spring, even if it means all day training and no golf, damn it!

I can not agree with you syam regarding Parnells fastball, he puts too much squeeze on the ball, holds it too tight which takes the spin out of it, plus his velocity is up and down. That pitch along with his others need work. Schneider saved his ass a few times. You got that base blunders right, good grief, sometimes it's just ridiculas. look at what Tatis did the other day blowin through Razors stop sign, dude needs to pay attention to hs third base couch.

Nelson Figueroa was awesome yesterday; he may very well be the pitcher we were hoping for as his outings continue to improve. Nelson is the only Mets pitcher not named Santana to strike out 10 in a game this season

We will be getting some catching help as the roster expands tomorrow, Josh Thole will be promoted. We need help for Santos with Schneider playing s bad as he is. I will give it to Brian for his catching; he still calls a great game as witnessed yesterday with Figueroa. But his batting has become an embarrassment. I am not sure of the dates for the expansion this year, some call ups will be delayed until around September 6 due to the fact that the minor league teams are shorthanded.

Carlos Beltran took a big step towards returning when he ran the bases Friday and Saturday in Port St. Lucie, Beltran will likely get another MRI this week to see if the bone bruises have subsided. If the MRI looks good and he remains pain-free, he could be back for the last few weeks of the regular season.
While obviously there is no reason for Carlos to rush back if there are any lingering concerns about his knee. But if healthy, Beltran is adamant that he wants to play again this season, he said "I want to get back, it’s no fun just sitting down and not being able to do anything. This is what I love to do, and that's why I'm rehabbing the way I'm doing. I want to be back. Even though the Mets are out of it this season it would be a blast to have him back even if just for a few weeks. We are the spoilers now and we need Carlos to help us fuck with some of our rivals.

As I have been writing about (prolly too much) D Wright returns tomorrow. Jerry Manual has agreed to let David play both Tuesday and Wednesday a take the day game after a night game on Thursday off.
David has also wisely changed his mind regarding the new new extra protective helmet, even though he said it was too bulky. The new helmet, with extra padding, has been shown to withstand pitches delivered at 100 miles per hour from 2 feet away in independent testing. Under current testing standards, helmets must withstand the impact of balls delivered at 60 mph. from 2 feet. The current helmets are compromised at speeds in excess of 70 mph.
David has asked that the new helmet be shipped to him in Colorado and will begin wearing it as soon as it arrives, possibly tomorrow.
You may have seen the new helmet; Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster wore it Saturday

Nice outing by Figueroa yesterday, he' really pitched pretty well except for that one awful game. Good to see the Mets not surrender to a sweep by the Cubbies. Good news on the
Beltran front, will be good to see him back on the field. I'm glad DWright is going to use the new helmet, safety first at this point. I'm sure it feels bulky right now, but my guess is that after they get used to it, it will hardly even be noticed by the players. Hopefully this won't give license to the pitchers to begin headhunting just because the batters are better protected in the head area.

The Beltran news got even better, he will begin his rehab in Brooklyn with the Cyclones, sorta what David Wright did. I am not sure what that means exactly I am still waiting for info to come in. But if he is gonna take the field at Keyspan Park on Wednesday I will for sure be there to check him out. Either way I will prolly he on out to the park on Wednesday to see if I can get to se him when the Cyclones play the Hudson Valley Renegades. Regular season ends on Sunday.
I love the fact that Carlos wants to return, he could have just sat out the rest of the season and rested but he wants to prove to the Mets and to himself that he can play. If/When he makes it back to the team even for just a couple of weeks that will be a boost to the morale of the other guys and just seeing him out there in center field and swinging a bat again will be a Mets fans dream come true.

Santana and Perez will both have their surgery tomorrow; Santana will have bone chips removed from his left elbow; while Perez will have scar tissue removed from the patella tendon of his right knee. Wishing em both speedy and full recovery,

Nelson Figueroa had a rocky start at the beginning of this month you may remember he lasted 1.2 innings, giving up 10 hits, six earned runs, and three homers. He was sent to the bullpen and would probably still be there without all the injuries that have messed up our rotation.
But since coming back Nelson has been on his game, picking up a win, throwing 4.1 scoreless innings and striking out five without any walks in relief when he jumped in for Jon Niese.
He is pitching well now, I never saw him pitch better than the other night, seven strong innings, only giving up six hits and two walks, and striking out 10 batters. He really looked great, if he can string together some starts like his last one, he might pitch himself onto the 2010 roster.
Actually if you think about it we have been lucky in our rotation since all the injuries went down in that Figueroa, Misch, and even Redding have put together five solid starts since joining the rotation. Redding is the only one the Mets have anything invested in with another year left on his contract, though if the Mets don’t go after a major arm over the winter (and they should) I guess maybe, just maybe, Figueroa could be a long man or fifth starter next year.
We also have to keep our eyes on Misch, he has been awesome.
And then there is poor Bobby Parnell, who is just not ready for the big leagues,

Catcher Josh Thole who is .328 in AAA is supposed to join the Mets in Colorado tonight.

I can’t wait, I mean, I CAN’T WAIT, to see Wright in uniform again. The sweetest sound for me would be when David comes to plate and we hear the crack of the bat, and Gary Cohen yelling “IT’S OUTTA HERE!
:D

Holy crap what a mess Pelfrey was last night, I mean he was just plain dreadful.
There he was licking his hand, wiping his head, babbling to him self, he looked so messed up I thought he was going to totally lose it. When Pelf gets in trouble, as he did so many times last night, he can not pitch out of it…He just can’t. The batters totally have his number and pretty much know what he is gonna throw, and that usually is a fastball. The fans knew it and for sure the Rockies knew it. Even when he is 0-2 he can’t close the deal cause he has no command. What I mean is, he can expand the zone but then he can’t seem to get back in the zone again. So 0-2 becomes 1-2 then 2-2 then… well you get my point. Now I know you have seen me write about this before but h can not pitch from the stretch with out stressing out. Last night was no exception.
He ](*,) cannot ](*,) pitch ](*,) from the stretch. ](*,)
He is not a #2 starter not even close, he just gets worse and worse. As a pitcher myself I can feel his pain, he had to be very disappointed in himself, trouble is I dono if anyone can help him anymore.
Of course his troubles were not helped much by the home plate umpires strike zone last night.

Then there was Angel Pagan and his base running blunders. #-oThat kid has got to learn better base running instincts. A shame, cause he is a decent center fielder and puts the bat on the ball, but once he is on base it all goes in the crapper.

I was concerned last night about Jeff Francour who looked to be in a lot of pain with that thumb, he did not look good. Maybe he better get a day off or rethink if he should even be playing before he fucks that hand up all together.

Santana and Perez both had successful surgeries Tuesday morning. In the procedures, Santana had multiple bone fragments removed from his pitching elbow, while Perez had scar tissue removed from the patella tendon of his right knee. They are both expected to be fully recovered for the start of Spring Training next February.

Carlos Beltran is set to begin a minor league rehab assignment. He will be in Brooklyn with the Cyclones starting tonight. I plan on being there, looking forward to seeing how he does. The Cyclones are also giving away team photos, I have gotten to know a few of the guys over the years and I wanna get one signed by a many of em as I can.

Now the good news, no, I mean great news. David Wright looked awesome last night. He just needs to get his rhythm and timing back is all.
The poor guy got so much grief and good natured kidding about that new helmet that I felt really bad for him. I mean everyone was on his case about it. I heard one call it the great Gazoo from the Flinstones and Dark Helmet from Spaceballs. One guy said you could see it from Google earth.
David took it well as you might expect. He said “It’s no big deal, It’s all in good fun”. Good to hear David, who has an amazing sense of humor, say that, but me personally I was not amused, I think it went to far. I heard it called, and I agree, insensitive, unprofessional and disrespectful.
David looked very tired after the game,. Maybe it was that thin Colorado air but I am glad Manual changed his mind, again, and will rest David tonight and play him Thursday. He needs that day in between. Plus I will be at the Cyclones game tonight and that way I wont miss him play.

So whadda ya think, here is David in his new Helmet. I think he looks adorable.:D

You pretty much summed up last nite's mess, Sonny. Lousy pitching and another baserunning blunder, taking them out of a possible big inning. Another rerun of the season. DWright looked like he was certainly enjoying all the kidding about the helmet. It does look dorky, but as long as it provides the safety measures advertised, who cares.

Absolutly right on Wright there Syam, he needs to be careful for a while.

I was lovin seeing Beltran in a Cyclones uniform last night. A little disappointed that he did not play in the outfield, just DH. Supposedly he will play the outfield for 5 innings today. Carlos did hit yesterday, was wearing that brace on his knee. He went 1-3, singled on a line drive to center and drove in a run, but he was out caught in a in double play. Then he walked in the fourth inning and was picked off first by the catcher.
Ouch, lots of moans
His other at bats he lined out to right and came thisclose to hitting one “outta here”. and struck out swinging in the eighth. He did look strong and he ran great, ya know he has that awesome stride when he runs that I love so much. He did bat from both sides of the plate, man it was good to see him. The Cyclones don’t play in Brooklyn tonight; they head up to Hudson Valley. I don’t wanna drive up there, plus I want to see today’s game with Misch on the mound and Thole doing the catching.I missed Beltran taking BP and did not meet him.

Sad loss for the Cyclones yesterday we needed to win, the SI Yankees are hot now and now they have a half game lead over us for the wild card. With just four games left we can not afford to lose any more.
I was speaking with Cyclones left fielder Nick Santomauro (s) about D Wright’s new helmet, he heard that morning that Minor League Baseball has now made it mandatory for all batters at every level of the minors wear them starting in 2010.
I asked what about the Majors, and Nick said is that what was told is that next week all the teams in the Majors will be getting around six of the helmets for players to try or use during the rest of the 2009 season.
So I asked Nick whata think? he said I don’t know man, I think they look goofy but we gotta do what they tell us. I guess it will be ok once we get used to em. Go Cyclones!

Latest David Wright helmet joke, David Wright’s helmet is so-o-o-o-o big, even Oliver Perez could hit it. It's ok to joke about the helmet just NOT about David

I only caught the last couple innings of the Mets game but one of my boys told me Tim Redding had another good outing. I did see Stokes pitch in the eighth and the less said about that the better. My boy also said Pagan had a great defensive day, and I guess Jeff Francoeur’s thumb is better, the swelling has gone down and he hit a solo homer.

I am looking forward to today’s game cause Pat Misch is on the mound. I love watching this kid, he came up through the In his first four seasons in the Giants farm system and I have had my radar on him. He is supposed to be caught by our new call up Josh Thole, so that makes it even more fun and interesting. In fact Thole has been catching bull pen for Misch sos they get to know one another. Usually Alomar, Sr. does the catching. I am pumped. Please Jerry, don’t change that line up give us Misch and Thole. Plus D Wright will be back in the line up today. That helmet sure needs adjustment, David has had a tough time just keeping it on his head, it’s almost too big. Did you see that thing fly off David’s head when he slid into second on Tuesday? OMG, when I saw that helmet fly off his head and David was sliding unprotected, I swear my poor widdle heart just about stopped. Supposedly they are working on it. Maybe in the meantime, David should hit with the new helmet and then when he is on the bases he could switch to a regular one.

How about our two new Mets, what a thrill to see these two bring all that life back to Mets baseball.:D

Misch was as I expected him to be, I don’t think I ever stopped smiling the whole time he was pitching. Ok so he got a little ruffed up at the end with those two homers but small potatoes to the way he pitched the first six no hit innings. He very seldom fell behind, but he was able to come back and throw strikes and get ground balls and outs when he needed them. He has a terrific knack for hiding the ball, those Rockies never knew what was coming till it hit the catcher’s glove. That is a great talent for a pitcher to have, especially when you throw a fastball. He even owned Rockies always dangerous Short Stop Troy Tulowitzki and left him dazed and confused. Pat masterfully went up in the strike zone after pitching down for most of his pitches. *salivating* I had seen him dominate the right hander’s before but wondered how he would do against the lefties, which is so important. Well my dears, he was brilliant, pitching them in all day, he was fearless, FEARLESS I TELL YOU.

Then there was Josh Thole, who by the way if you did not notice was wearing #30 which was Nolan Ryan’s number. I was worried that because he was still very new at the catching game Manual and the coaches would restrict how much calling he did. But he called the whole game and in fact I only saw Misch shake him off a couple of times. They were outstanding together. He also knows a thing or two about fooling batters, especially with the fastball against right handed hitters. He framed the ball, and then when he knew the batter was concentrating on the pitch, he moved his glove slowly and most importantly sudally. Sometimes you can even fool or trick the umpire into thinking strike instead of ball. Paul LoDuca and Mike Piazza were masters of that. The kid is a stud and remember he came up from AA skipping over AAA. Josh too had a few missteps in early innings but that was to be expected, can you imagine how nervous he had to be? Josh also had a great day at the plate getting his first ML hit and first ML steal. I was surprised at how he chokes up on his bat, don’t often se that in young guys up from the minors.

Ok, Ok I am through squealing like a schoolgirl over those two guys, but come on…that was exciting.Oh and by the way I have to mention that both theses guys are cute as hell, ;) Thole in particular is a total babe. Both guys are spoken for, Misch is married and Thoile is engaged.

So D Wright ditched that helmet, well it really did not fit well at all. I wonder if he will wait till they get the fit worked out or just give up on it all together. Plus he took a lot of ribbing about that thing. Some one in the locker who should remain nameless *cough Francoeur cough* put a picture of the Great Gazoo on David’s locker. You need to know Jeff and David have become really good friends, I should also mention het Searches for "David Wright's helmet" have been near the top of Google Trends for the past day.
David had an outstanding day going with three hits, including a double and three RBI, with two runs scored, in four at bats. I had to mention David, after all that gushing about Misch and Thole. David is still my #1 !oops!

Carlos Beltran played five innings in center field for the Cyclones yesterday and continues to move closer to returning to the lineup. It was another pain free day with nor problems whatsoever. He did not do anything at the plate going 0-2 but the important thing is he was able to play center field with no trouble. He plays again in Brooklyn tonight and if all goes well it is conceivable we will see him in a Mets uniform next week against the Marlins. We need to fuck those Marlins up maybe Carlos can help us. None of us can forget what those smelly fish did to us in ’08 and’09. It’s payback time babies. Spoiler will be the call from now on.

I doubt we will se Thole catching today cause it’s Parnell on the mound and that mess needs a veteran catcher to try and keep his ship from sinking, maybe Schneider should catch tonight, he has always been outstanding with the new kids.

In case you missed it here is that babe Josh Thole

Oh man was it ever great to see Parnell pitch as well as he did last night.
I have been saying he is not ready and needs to get his secondary pitches worked out among other things. Obviously the kid has been working between starts and I am proud of him. We saw a lot more of that slider, maybe a little too much; I got nervous when he pitched that in the strike zone. But, seven innings allowing only five hits AND he struck out seven. Way to go Bobby.
Even when he got into trouble with bases loaded (twice) he did not go all Pefrey wacky and lose control. He put em down and Struck em out with a 97 mph fastball. Bobby for the most part looked comfortable out there, except may be just a little bit, but not much, tense with the bases loaded. I kept thinking of how Pelfey would have been freakin out. But Bobby stayed calm. The intensity increase a bit when he threw from the stretch, which is what Pelfrey does, only Parnell was able to not go over the deep end and get the job done, unlike Pelf.
But yesterday was not the beginning of a major turn around for Bobby, he still has issues. You will notice he did not throw many fastballs in the bottom of the zone. Most of his strikes were above a little high, and the low ones were in the dirt or just above the batters shoes. I say this cause the Cubs are not a great offense team and just maybe we got lucky more than a few times.

How about that awesome eight inning, man was that fun. I loved watching Piniella make pitching changes and have that bite him on the ass. Switch to the righty for Murph? Ok no problem, Hey Murph, sit down ad give Tatis a bat. By the way what is up with Murphy all of a sudden hacking at everything. He does not usually do that and must stop.

Cory Sullivan, I love that dude, he had a great night as well. I am not missing Sheffield out there at all. By the way where is Gary? Still sulking, I guess, says his back hurts, ok Gary what ever you say.

Anderson Hernandez making himself very comfortable at short is nice to see.

Yeah thanks to Stokes e had a little drama in the ninth, what’s up with him lately anyways. But Frankie came in to what then, thanks to Stokes, became a save situation and put the game to bed. I never like to see a guy like Stokes who was least effective get the win. In my mind that win belongs to Bobby Parnell, fuck the rules. Hey Brian, how’s it feel to take away Bobby’s win, I hope you took him out to dinner at least before you fucked him.

Here is the thing, in spite of the fact that the Mets are out of it for ’09 it’s just plain fun and exciting to see them scrap and hang tough.

Oh Angel Angel Angel, what are we gonna do with you. I love your bat and most of your out field prowess, but dude, take charge when you are in center field, that’s twice you messed that up now. Those mental mistakes are gonna get ya dude.

So another great outing from our new (and improved?) Starting lineup.
Let’s hope Figueroa can keep it going tonight with Thole back doing the catching.
I had written yesterday that I did not think Thole should catch for Parnell cause Bobby needs a more seasoned catcher, and that turned out to be a great move on manuals part cause Santos was excellent with Bobby. I would have been happy with Schneider as well cause of the way he works with the young pitches but Santos has caught for Parnell before so it was a good match.

Speaking of Brian Schneider, how about that guy and the way he has embraced Josh Thole and took him under his wing. Brian took Josh on a Citi Field tour and spent many hours talking to the kid and showing him technique. That says a lot for Schneider’s character cause Brain is pretty much on his way out and Thole is the future. I don’t if too many guys would take a guy who is basically gonna get his job would do that. It showed a lot of class. Way to go Brian.

Figueroa was not terrible yesterday, he went six innings, allowing four runs and seven hits. But the best thing was his eight strikeouts. If the Mets bats had been able to figure out pitcher Rich Harden
(I counted 13 strike outs) and gave Nelson some run support he might have gotten the win. So all in all as pitchers go he is on the right track but more work is needed. I am sure he will have a job as a starter till the end of the season,

Thole continued to rock with two singles and Cory Sullivan also continues to impress me with two homers in as many days.

Carlos Beltran had another great day in Brooklyn yesterday with a game winning RBI single to give em the walk off win. I will go to see him play again tonight, it looks more and more everyday that Carlos will be back with the Mets Tuesday against the Marlins. Oh Man, can you feel the buzz? Can you feel the fun of seeing Beltran and Wright playing back to back again? It has been a long time, can hardly wait.

Today is a big day in Brooklyn; The Cyclones finish the regular season with Fan Appreciation Day. Carlos Beltran will play again, and after the game is the traditional fireworks show. Me and the boys are so there. I really wanna hook up with some the Cyclones I have gotten to know and hit a club or something. They had a great year and tonight is a night to celebrate and have fun. They have officially locked up the Wild Card spot in the NYPL Playoffs, and will play the first game of the postseason in Brooklyn on Tuesday. Go Cyclones.

John Maine continues to work well in Florida rehab. I would like to se Johnny come back and play with the Mets for the last couple of weeks, maybe in the long man spot or even close in a non save situation. It would be great for the fans and the team to see him come back and pitch before the season ends, it would also be great for Johnny.

Pelfry this afternoon, hide the children’s eyes and batten down the hatches.:help:

Mets win Cyclones loose

Well big Pelf found himself and pitched an awesome game. I knew he had it in him if he could just get his head on straight. Well yesterday he did, He had a terrific pitch differential of balls and strikes and he only walked one.... ONE! :=D:
Eight terrific innings, allowing only five hits, one run and five strike outs, 70 of his 105 pitches were for strikes. His fastball was up there in the high 90s and he was fearless throwin that fastball inside. AND, he actually pitched well from the stretch! Now that’s the old Pelf, that’s what we need from our #2 starter,
welcome back kid.;)
I sure wish Manual had let Mike go for the complete game, I know it was 105 pitches but he did not seem tired and he breezed through the eighth. Manual said he wanted to be sure that Mike went out on a high note and he also wanted to give K-Rod work so he does not go stale. Well we coulda done without the drama Frankie gave us in the Ninth that’s for sure.
I have to mention Schneider as well cause he called a spectacular game. He and Pelf go perfectly together, it was a match made in heaven. Manual needs to keep them together and not let anyone else catch Pelfrey, even when the opposing team has a lefty on the mound, let Brian play. Who knows maybe Brian will hit one outta the park against a lefty. Wouldn’t that be sweet.

*Jerry Springer Chant* Murphy Murphy Murphy. Daniel was on fire yesterday .going 3-for-4 with a triple and a homer and driving in all four runs. How cute was he when in the interview after the game he corrected Kevin B who mistakenly said Murph had a double, “it was a triple Kevin” :D

So yesterday I was hoping maybe John Maine would return in some sort of relief spot. Well it looks like I will get my wish in spades, cause they are seriously considering let Maine pitch in the second game of the double header on Sunday, which would be sweet. Let’s see what he has now that he says he feels great. As I wrote yesterday it is very important for him to come back and pitch before the end of the season. I am so looking forward to that.
Think about it, what a way to finish up the season with out starters back pitching well. Since Santana and Perez went down we saw deterioration in our starting pitching, then all of a sudden E have seen Parnell, Figueroa and Redding turn it around, and now Pelfrey. If Maine comes back strong we can go into the off season breathing a little sigh of relief, add to that, Beltran back in center field and It ill be an easier way to end a losing disappointing season.

The Cyclones lost yesterday 4-2. But it was a great day at the park. I got to watch five pitchers in the game. So of course I was salivating. We did manage nine hits, including my boys Scott Grimes and Luis Rivera who both had had two hits. Carlos Beltran was 1-for-5 on the night and struck out three times.

The boys spent a lot of time with the fans yesterday, and over the season I have gotten to know and respect a couple of them very well. There is one particular player who always seeks me out at the games I attend and we have hit it off really well.

Tuesday, The Cyclones begin their postseason play in Game One of the best-of-three NYPL Semifinals.
