New York Mets 2010

Yea it's gone now.I can take a joke and roll with it, but Gaga? that's just cruel
Glad they didn't fuck with my avatar, even though it would have been a great joke puttin the
Phillies in there ;)
But Abs and the Cubs ......poor baby would have gone postal on em.
Completely! That would just be TOO cruel!

Yep,while we're at it,make Scrub a Mets fan!!!:p

Sorry to see Bradlee go... bummed me out.:(

Will miss him and his Red Sox love lots.

Hoping the Mets lineup really starts off on a hot streak while we get back Jose Reyes,Daniel Murphy and Carlos Beltran. That pitching rotation scares me...even Johann a little. When Jonathan Niese is the third pitcher because Maine,Pelfrey and Perez have have ranged from underwhelming to alarming this spring...well,that's just NOT good!:help::cry:

We better hope our bullpen doesn't collapse but it's going to be sorely tested.:(

So the cuts have begun and the pen and bench is taking form.
Yesterday the Mets informed six players they would not make the cut.
Calero, Figueroa, Carter, Parnell, Adams and Desends will not be on the 25-man roster.
That still leaves Catalanotto and Tejada, with Mejia, Green and Valdes in the bullpen, along with K-Rod, Feliciano, Igarashi, Takahashi and Nieve
I am speechless to explain the madness in keeping Green and letting Figuroa go or even Dessens for that matter. But mostly Figueoa who has been sharp and other than Mejia pitched better than all of em. Figueroa deserved that spot, his performance this spring more than earned him that. I am totally pissed at the stupidity of this move. I mean, Green over Figueroa, are you shittin me??

Chris Carter will be going to the minors while Fernando Tatis will stay prolly to platoon with Jacobs at first while Murphy heals and maybe give D Wright a day off from time to time.

So what this means for the guys cut is, Carter, Dessens, Adams, Calero and Parnell all have options and will be staying with the Mets. Figueroa has no options left and I am here to tell you he is NOT going to go to AAA, no fuckin way will he except that. Nelson has got to be confused and irritated by this move and will tell the Mets to fuck off, enough is enough for him, and I don’t blame him one bit. Nelson can always go to Japan and play and I would not be surprised if he is not clamed off waivers to see him do that. I expected both Mejia and Tejada to make the cut, Mejia more than Tejada.

So here is what our pen will look like.
Nieve, Takahashi,Igarashi,Green,Feliciano,Mejia and K-Rod. .
When I add it all up I get 26 players so one more cut to 25 will have to be made. It would be in the pen, I’m thinkin Valdes will be the final cut even though he is a lefty specialist.

The bench will look like this for now.
Matthews Jr., Tatis, Blanco, Catalanotto, Tejada

Finally, with our the starters pitching as erratically as they did in spring I worry that we are going to need a strong pen, and that should have included Figuroa and it sure as Hell does not include Green.

Yep,think Figueroa proved valuable in long relief and deserved the spot over Sean Green who stunk to high heaven for too many stretches. At least Pelfrey pitched relatively well yesterday in the loss to Tampa.

It’s finally here opening day 2010 is tomorrow.

I am optimistic about our offense, believing that D Wright will have a break out again this year and Bay and francour will put up great numbers for us. Reyes and Beltran are both on track for their return so there is that.. BUT, I am very concerned about our starters…very concerned. None of them has performed very well and yesterday our new starter Jon Niese looked like he can’t make it passed 4 or 5 innings. He started out great in four innings, but then in the fifth inning he allowed five hits in a row and then a grand slam home run. I did not se the game but apparently he began to overthrow the ball in the fifth inning, and spent a lot of the day nibbling at the corners, rather than going after hitters Then Sean Green came on in the sixth inning and allowed four runs of his own including a two run home run.

The Mets are back in NY today, will workout in the morning at Citi Field before there opener Monday against the Marlins, with Johan Santana facing Josh Johnson.

Finally heard from Omar (useless) Minaya regarding Nelson Figuroa and the decision not to give him a spot, According to Omar They had some guys that can do that role that Figueroa has given us, and that’s why the Mets decided to cut Figueroa. OMG! The man truly is an idiot.
I am still poised over the decision to cut Nelson, I mean here is a guy who came into camp, does what is expected of him and more but still doesn’t make this team. Adding insult to injury the Mets take someone like Sean Green who doesn’t deserve to make this team at all. Hell, Nelson is even better than Nieve.
I have said so many times before that I consider Nelson to be a competitor on the mound. He has that killer mentality, along with great attitude and the Mets were fools not to see that.I recall Nelson saying he would take whatever role in order to help this team win. How often have you heard that? I know I haven’t heard it much.

Can you believe the Mets still have not announced who the opening day center fielder will be? When a reporter asked Manual about it yesterday Jerry said that he hasn’t told either Angel Pagan or Gary Matthews Jr. who will start tomorrow,” I haven’t told them yet so I won’t tell you,” He did say he would make that choice Sunday after the Mets workout. Probably by the time you guys read this a decision will have been announced. I am holding my breath Jerry, try and not fuck up that decision it has to be Pagan

Darryl Strawberry will throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the Mets’ season opener Monday.Strawberry will be inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame on Aug. 1.

So as a pitcher I still yell out with terror in my voice for 2010

LET’S GO METS

With some trepidation ready for the curtain to rise on the new season, and hopeful Reyes,Murphy and Beltran will return, stay healthy and have big years.Jason Bay and David Wright look solid already, hoping they continue their hot spring training starts.Francouer looks poised to really bust out and fulfill his tremendous promise off of his second half coming to the Mets last season.

Angel Pagan HAS to win the center field job...Matthews just won't cut it despite the occasional glimpses,he doesn't provide the leadoff threat that flawed as he is currently Pagan is by far the most proficient weapon the Mets have on the major league roster(having sent down Fernando Martinez, far and away the best option at this position at least in terms of spring performance and past potential).

The pitching is scary....how much can the bullpen handle before it collapses under the weight of potentially wretched starting efforts.Other than Mike Pelfrey in his last start of the spring NOONE has looked impressive. So many questions remain...and the Green/Figueroa debacle doesn't leave Mets fans with much optimism as Green has been as madly erratic as he was last year and Figueroa save a rough outing or two has proven he can be very tough and reliable as a long man/spot starter. The Mets had better start off offensively like gangbusters,or this year will be even more agita-inducing than last year, which was really, really hard to get through without:eek::cry:](*,)

I hear you sonny though as we gotta believe and now that Mets opening day has officially arrived I'll second you and shout
Let's Go Mets!(!)

Well said Saucy

So Matthews will play center instead if Pagan, Figueroa is toast and Jacobs will bat cleanup instead of Bay. Manual is 0-3, Way to fuck up opening day Jerry
Manual said he picked Matthews over Pagan because he likes how Alex Cora and Luis Castillo project at the top of the lineup. Yup…he actually said that.
Pagan is the man for the leadoff spot Jerry, you have lost your freakin mind. Manual also said that the job is not Matthews alone and that Pagan would rotate in that spot. Well Jerry I have something for you to rotate on.
Hurry back Beltran, please.

I am not gonna write anymore about the Figueroa mesa use I am sure you guys are sick of me bitchin about that stupid move.
But seriously, Manual has been making some questionable decisions very early in the season, either he has lost his fuddermuckin mind or he is just that lousy a manager. It tales a really incompetent manager to do things like he ha done, can someone explain the rational for batting Alex Cora leadoff, and Mike Jacobs ahead of Jason Bay? Manual is making some very bad choices, and Worthon’s inability to develop our pitchers will sink us in 2010.

Call to Bobby V and Rick Peterson, keep your bags packed and ready to come back to NY. I think we are going to need you soon. :help:

Oh I’m sorry guys do I sound bitter and disgusted? Well maybe a bit, but then I remember that Reyes and Beltran will be back soon, David Allan Wright looks ready to having a great year, Bay, when Manual puts him back protecting Wright as he should be, will give us plenty of pop. Then there is Francour and that awesome rocket of an arm of his in right field. So I can smile and try and forget Manual and Minaya.

I will watch the game in Brooklyn today with my dad and five (two Cyclones) of my boys.
Nothing, not even jerk-off Manual, is gonna ruin opening day.:D

I'll expand on your post later sonny but enjoy the Cyclones opener with your Dad and buddies!..|

Just remember what Ralph Kramden would say when he was confronted with a really agita building development when it comes to how to react to Jerry and Omar's baffling, maddening actions and statements:"Pins and needles, needles and pins....a happy man is a man who grins!";)

Despite some questionable decisions by Jerry Manuel and the lineup, it was a great way to start the season!! Very nice pitching by Johan and Nieve, and KRod, some timely hitting, and the results were a relative easy victory. Need lots more of these this season!! Let's Go Mets!!

Hard to question Manuel's moves today. The Mets followed the script that we hope to see all year. Starter (Johan) pitches well, bullpen (Nieve) holds, closer (K-Rod) closes it out and of course the offense is potent.

Way to start the year!

(Was very nice seeing David get that homerun in his first at bat. Hopefully it takes some pressure off him.)

Great way to open the season....7-1 Mets over the Marlins.Johann Santana back in strong form, great relief work and a balanced, effective offense.Way to go David Wright getting back on the "Wright" track with his two run first inning shot.Jason Bay did a very nice job in his regular season Mets debut, two hits including smacking a triple,Francouer knocking in Bay with a double and another on a sacrifice fly, newcomer catcher Rod Barajas knocking in Gary Matthews Jr. with a double...Pagan getting off the bench for a clutch RBI hit.Hopefully they can keep it up and start off strong after the off day today.

Yesterday was amazin. Just what the doctor ordered for the Mets and their fans.
The win was the 32nd opening day win, making them 32-17 which is the best in baseball.
Santana was awesome, he had a little trouble with his is changeup in the first inning but then he stated throwing like he owned it. I have often written about the importance of the differential in the speed of the change and fast ball and Johan nailed that yesterday. Watching that ball drop the way it did was a work of art. Poor fish never had a chance. He was hitting the corners, mixin and machin like the Santana we have all come to love. After the game he felt no discomfort and was in fact feeling physically great. We have to mention our pen which was outstanding as well giving up no hits. It was so great to se the Mets give Santana all that run support, something we did not see at all last year.

DWright of course got the game started with that 2 run homer, how great was that! In fact all of his at bats were very much like the David of seasons past, his swing is back kids.

We really showed the Marlins who the better team is but it was helped by the fact that the Marlins still play some of the worst defense in the league. That first baseman Sanchez is a joke, that dude needs to learn to stretch.

I wish Manual had managed a little more aggressively, I was waiting for a hit and run but it never happened even though there were several oppertuntes. Same goes for the double steal, again at least two chances for that but it never came. Well, at least they tried a squeezes play even though it did not work, it was great to see em try. That came when Pagan was on third. And as Saucy wrote how great was that hit Angel got, I was so happy to see him pitch hit for Santana and all I could think of was I hope he comes through.

Ok so let’s talk about the three things I was complaining about yesterday, Matthews, Cora and Jacobs.I have to say I was very impressed with Mathews and the way he handled that outfield and calling players off. When you consider it was the first time he played put there at Citi and the size of the area he had to cover, coupled with al that wind, the kid did really well. Nice job Garry.:=D:
But the other changes Manual made failed miserably as we all knew they would…well everyone but Manual. First of all Cora in the lead off spot was a joke, he was 0-4 and never made it from home plate. When he did hit the ball he killed a bases loaded situation by hitting into an inning ending double play. So Jerry, do you still feel that Cora is a better lead off man than Pagan as you foolishly claimed. Please
Next is Jacobs in the cleanup spot, yeah that turned out well, 0-4, two strikeouts, men left on base….Oh yeah that worked really well. Look Jerry lemme explain it to you, spitting up the righties is not always the best option I have always hated that philosophy anyways, ya put the best men in the right positions, you and this obsession with righty lefties makes me nutz. But getting back to Jacobs who does not fit in that position nor does he for that matter deserve that position. HE IS NOT A CLEANUP HITTER, BAY IS.
I guess Manual thought with Jacobs behind Wright Jason would see some better pitches but that did not happen. Oh and by the way Jerry have you noticed that Jacobs is a lousy runner? Yeah well I have. Which is more reason not to bat him in the 4 spot behind Wright. But Jerry is Jerry and anyone wanna bet that fool bats Jacobs fourth again in Wednesdays game?

Now the real test comes beginning tomorrow with Maine on the mind and how will our other starters will do. They are a shaky bunch but like saucy wrote, "Pins and needles, needles and pins....a happy man is a man who grins!" ;)

Saucy, I wanted to clear up something you wrote abut me going to the Cyclones opener. The Cyclone series does not begin until June. I was referring to the fact that I watched the Mets game with two of the players along with my dad and a couple of other buddies. I will be going up to Buffalo next week with a bunch of Cyclones for the Bisons opener. I expect to hook up with Davis and hopefully get a chance to meet a few more of those guys. Looking forward to that. :D

Thanks for that link Gambit;)

So kiddies we got our first look at John Maine yesterday and it was not really very good, It started with him overusing his off speed instead of his fastball and any good pitcher will tell you for John that’s not how it works, I dono what was he thinking. When he finally threw the fastball he showed little command, he threw over 20 pitches just to get through the first inning. I have to mention that fastball was mostly around 88 and he was high in the strike zone. What’s important about that velocity, and I have written about this before, is that it limits the effectiveness of his secondary pitches especially his change-up.
Sp what happened to his velocity, I only hope that he may be afraid or nervous about throwing hard because of the injuries he's had over his career We all know what a head case Johnny is so who knows what he is thinking about there.
Jenrry Mejia made his first start, he faced six batters in relief of John Maine, let up three hits and a run in the sixth inning. I am not as concerned about him as I am John, I think Mejia is going to be a superstar and last night was not a good example of what he is capable of. I know he only struck out one batter (the opposing pitcher) but he also showed us his awesome 97–mph fastball.

Sean Green pitched last night, allowing a homerun. Big surprise.

But the boobie prize for the night has to go to Tatis for getting thrown out at the plate. Now I am all for aggressive base running but what he did was down right stupid. You don’t take a chance like that when you have the bases loaded with two outs and David Wright at the plate. Dumb Dumb Dumb. At least have the talent to pull it off which he doesn’t. It was obvious in the replay that Tatis did not get a very good secondary lead off third, he was only a few feet off the bag when the ball hit off the catchers glove. He had too much ground to cover and should have only tried that if he were few feet further down the line. So a blown up opportunity for Wright although of course had Tatis scored leaving first base open the fish would have walked David.

Now from the Oh my God no department, I guess you guys have heard that Nelson Figueroa was claimed by the Phillies, Figueroa cleared waivers and was picked up by the Phillies. A great move by the Phillies after a very bad decision by the Mets to let him go. Nelson will be a big help to them helping with all the injuries in their pitching staff. The Phillies have started the year with three pitchers on the disabled list Lidge. Romero and Blanton. Figueroa who by the way was a Phillie will prolly take the Phillies long relief job away from Drew Carpenter.
Of course he could also be used as a spot starter but wait until he goes up against the Mets and mows em down one by one. It’s Martinez all over again only much worse this time. But I wish the kid a lot of luck he did well with us and he deserves success. I just wish he had gone with a different team.:(

Well, Jon Niese lived up to his end of the bargain with a pretty good outing, the bullpen held the "Fish" down, but where did the bats go? Robertson pitched well against our Mets. I was surprised when Detroit traded him, will have to see their rotation to see if all their guys are better than Nate. The Mets need a good showing this weekend, especially with JOSE returning for Saturdays game. Let's Go Mets!!

Well said Syam

Niese looked pretty good out there last night. I liked how relaxed he was, seemed to be under no pressure at all What we saw was a nice fastball, an excellent cutter, which baffled the Hell out of the Marlins, and a good curve as well He was Impressive and gives me a little more hope for our rotation. Out of three Marlins games we had two good outings by pitchers. If Pelf can dominate tonight we just might be ok.
It’s just too bad our offense gave Jon no run support, in fact, just where the Hell was our offense last night anyways, just pathetic. After a nice outing Niese deserved that first win. What makes me all the irratated is the fact that we had all those righty bats up against that Marlins lefty and could not get anything done against him. I mean, seriously, what is up with that? I hope every player who was in yesterdays game went up to and apologized.

So on to good news, Jose Reyes will work out in Citi Field today and will return from the disabled list on Saturday. He is expected to be in the lineup on Saturday, Oh baby, and we will need him cause Ollie the terrible will be on the mound and we will need all the offense we can get to cancel out the damage that he will do.

Expect Luis Castillo out for a day or so with Cora playing second, something about his calves bothering him, who knows. Ruben Tejada will be at shortstop, which makes sense since Tejada is more comfortable at shortstop, and Cora can play both positions

Daniel Murphy is making great progress, his knee brace is off and he is beginning work in the pool with a possible minor league game soon. There is now the possibility if he continues to do as well as he has we could see him back in the lineup as early as April 19th.

Another link you'll enjoy Sonny. I did...

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3W-nCmN_Ovk&feature=player_embedded[/ame]

Niese looked great but the offense was flat. Am I the only one having flashbacks?

hey all, glad to be back for another season.

opening day was a lot of fun, kept score at home. kinda dorky, but entertaining, lol. Wright stole the moment with that home run. Beauty!

The Marlins tried their best to give us the next game, but the pitching was just not there, despite my best optimism for John Maine (bleh).

Niese was a nice intention, but similar Mets trait-doesn't throw strikes, except down the middle. Not that impressive. Bullpen was nice, though.

Tonight (Friday), was very motivational. 4 Home Runs? Who are these Mets and what happened to last year's singles-only team? Francoeur is having a great start, David had a double about 3 feet and one insane wind gust away from an extra two bases. Barajas has been pretty good too: We havent had that much power at catcher since Piazza left after 2005. Also, I like Ruben Tejada, glad he got his hit and I want to see more of him in the near future (hopefully not for injury reasons)

Here's hoping for a different Ollie tomorrow, a brand new Jose Reyes, and a smooth roll into the rest of his season.

Happy Baseball Season everybody!

Very nice victory for our Mets last nite! Pelfrey was very good, hopefully, we'll see a lot more efforts like this from him! The bats awoke, HR's flying out like it was Philly's whiffle ball yard. Great job by everyone, hoping we see more of this as the season progresses. I see Ike Davis homered last nite, after 3 hits the nite before, and a guy named Dylan Owen pitched 5 no-hit innings for Binghampton last nite. Awesome!
