New York Mets 2010

What a freakin disaster last night’s game was…just pitiful. I mean how many errors did they commit anyways? More than they scored runs that’s how many.#-o So much for finishing over .500 last night was our 82nd loss of 2010 so it ain’t gonna happen. Just so you know as far as finishing with a wining over .500 we are 25-49 since the first season.

Gee was not terrible he allowed 4 runs two of earned and two of em a gift from Reyes and that bad bad error. His command was not all that great I thought he gave up too may hits. I liked that he went fairly deep into the game, not sure why Manual pulled him the result of which ended up killing us.

Then…oh my that ninth inning, good grief. Just after Gary Cohen had said ho well the Mets defense had been, they must have heard him and decided to prove him wrong cause that ninth was one of the worst I have seen them play. Reyes, Thole, Wright and Davis all turned into sloppy inept baseball players all at the same time right before our yes, damn that was ugly.

At least Duda and Carter gave us a few bright spots to hang on to, that kid Carter has been awesome in the pinch hitting role, now if he could just learn to throw the ball and run faster. No worries…he will.

But on to better stuff, Nick Evans is fine, his MRI came back negative. Actually although he felt a bit stiff when he woke up, as the day went on yesterday he started to feel a lot better, moving his arm around his rage of motion improved thru out the day. He took the day off no work out no BP just rested yesterday. Today he going to the park for some work out maybe BP and talk to Ray Ramirez and Jerry Manual about what he could do these last three days. Nick wants to play or at the very least pinch hit. Trouble is the Nats have a righty on the mound all three games and Manual might go with Carter and Duda we will have to see if Nick can talk Jerry into letting him play.
Nick is not injury prone so this came out of nowhere still don’t know what he experienced but some sort of strain how he did it is a mystery. Nick did have a problem back in ’08 with a strained forearm and we know what caused that, but that’s about it although it kept him out for about five days.

Soooo just three more games left to bad the games have been so lousy but at least we are getting a chance to see guys like Evans, Carter, Duda and Gee shows us what they have. I am lovin that.

Since obviously theses last three games are meaningless I think the Mets could turn them into something more meaningful by giving guys like Reyes and Wright the rest of the season off. Beltran is already done so why not the rest the others as well. Let Evans Carter and Duda play every day, let em loose, let em show us more of what they can do. I know it will be more fun than watching Reyes and Wright fumble around out there at least that’s what I’d like to see. I would not mind seeing more of Mike Nickeas as well haven’t seen enough of him to figure him out, Blanco can sit. Hey, I love David and Jose but they don’t need to play as much as those other kids
So Put em in couch.

Didn't see last nites game, but sounds like Misch finally pitched like he did at Buffalo, getting 10 K's. The offense amounted to an Ike Davis HR and a Josh Thole walkoff HR, How Nice!! It is sad as a baseball season comes to an end, especially when our team has disappointed again. For me, I also enjoy and watch football and hockey is just a couple of weeks away, so that and the baseball playoffs will keep me occupied. Hopefully our boys of summer will do well in their off season pursuits, be they baseball related or not. Play well, get well, and stay well. February is only 4 months away, it'll be here in a flash.

Yup Syam, Misch was terrific, unfortunately the offense gave him nothing and once again he got an indecision poor kid can’t cut a break with that.
For me the end of baseball season is very difficult time I am not into hockey at all and only some football. I like basketball and play golf into part of the winter but there is a major void in my life after baseball season ends. I either play or watch baseball every day during the season. Basically if I am not working, on the links or sleeping I am doing something baseball related. Another thing is, some many of my baseball buddies leave to go to winter ball, training camp or just home to all over the country and I miss seeing them as often as I like to do. Phone calls are nice, text messages and e-mail are all well and good but I miss the camaraderie and hanging out. Fortunately I am blessed to have a lot of friends that are not connected to baseball to help me get thru the long cold winter. A lot of my baseball buds know all to well how lost I get when the season is over, as an example I got a great text lat night from Cyclones first baseman Jeff Flagg which read,
r u in the fetal position yet?

As the last game looms this afternoon we can all feel good about the last couple of games, they have been fun with good pitching and terrific outings by guys like Davis, Thole, Carter, Duda and Wright. I mean how great was it to see all those guys get homers? I mean come on…but DWright was the best, after that brush back pitch he slammed one out of the park, took a second or two to admire it and basically said to the pitcher Fuck you punk and then took his home run trot, that was the play of the year for me, David’s 29th homer breaking a 2-2 tie and give the Mets a 5-2 lead.

Tomorrow may learn what steps the Mets are going to take with respect to the GM and manager positions. We have all read or heard the reports that both of them will be gone but the Mets have not made any official announcement. I have to say I think it was cheap and totally inappropriate for the press to out Omar and Jerry before they had been official told anything by the Mets organization. A very punk move that left me with a very bad taste in my mouth should not have been done. Manual in particular may have been a lousy manager but he was a good man and did not deserve the humiliation of that story leaking three days before the end of the regular season leaving him twisting in the wind and embarrassed in front of family and friends....shame

If you don’t know by now you haven’t been reading my stuff, the only man for the managers job is Wally Backman, as to the GM job I dono what they might do but perhaps Billy Beane is being considered, that would absolutely work for me.

I will do my last post here in the Mets 2010 thread tomorrow, last thoughts etc. I hope some of you will join me with yours :D

What a perfect ending to the season, Ollie Perez coming in to pitch and loose the game for us….perfect. That wild (and he was wild) and wacky dude came in cause well I guess as Gary Cohen put it “It was the last game of the season that would die” So Manual decided to put everyone out of their misery and send Ollie in to make it die. So maybe Manual thought the way to kill the game would be to let Ollie pitch. Perez did what he does hitting a batter walking just about everyone else and then, oh yeah, loaded the bases and forced in the go ahead run. Ya gotta love him, that’s our Ollie. I almost felt sorry for the poor bastard when the Mets fans booed him so badly and than sarcastically shouted MVP MVP it was pretty funny actually. But then it was not fun anymore when I remembered what a joke he is and how the Mets have put up with his crap for so long.

Enough about that idiot, the season is over for us and it is time to think ahead to 2011 we have a lot to be hopeful for with what will probably be a new GM and manager and who knows what else. Jeff Wilpon is scheduled to meet this morning with Jerry Manuel and Omar Minaya to “discuss what’s next” I am thinking there will be a news conference later today and hopefully we will learn who our new leaders will be.
Manual is completely out of touch with reality at this point cause yesterday he actually said he was not sure of he would be back, huh?? Is he kidding?? But he did not speak to the players after yesterday’s game as he normally would cause "to address them to prepare for spring training is probably not mine to do at this point." Gee Jerry ya think?

With new management and our youth movement I have more hope than I have had in the last couple of years. There will be big changes in the way the games are played especially if Backman is in, he will take those young kids and turn them into studs. Bur lets not get ahead of ourselves here Wally does not have the job yet. I’m just salivating over the possibility that he will get it.
I am prepared for the chance it will be someone else and while that will not please me much I won’t comment till I see who it is. Main thing is it won’t be Manual.
The new kids Davis, Thole, Carter, Duda and hopefully Evans and Murphy along with Wright, Pagan and Reyes give me a huge amount of hope for next year. David returned to form now and Pagan has shown we do not need Beltran. My question is what Bay will be like he is a dark horse. Then there will be second base with Tejada and hopefully Murphy so you can see the possibility of success is very high. Out pitching is not a concern other than I would like another starter but we have Santana, Pelfrey, Niese and Dickey, Misch and Gee have proved their worth as well. Our pen has been effective and I think we can think about Takahashi taking K-Rods place. (That fool ain’t comin back) Pitching will be good in 2011. Which is why when the changes are announced I hope both Warthen and Niemann are retained. Along with third base coach Chip Hale who has been outstanding.

Just a note on Nick Evans, although the MRI showed no damage to his shoulder and was negative he experienced a little discomfort on Saturday and so Ray Ramirez decided he should not play, A wise thing to do in letting his shoulder completely heal from that strain. Nick was bummed by that cause he wanted to prove his worth as he did in that game he won for us the other day. As I told you he is out of options now and is concerned what will happen next year. Nick has been on the 40-man roster for three different seasons, in order to be sent down again he'll have to clear waivers. The thing is, after you've been in the league for a certain amount of time, you must clear waivers in order to be sent to the minors. Being on waivers gives other teams an opportunity to take on your contract and place you on their roster, if no other team claims your rights, then you can be sent down. Nick was drafted by the Mets in the 5th round of the 2004 amateur draft.
Nick will survive all of this it’s just the uncertainty of what’s next that makes him a little nutz. I worry a little about him cause the last time he got demoted he did not handle it well, after beginning 09 in AAA he was eventually sent down to AA, he got real depressed, in fact it was so bad he ended up seeing a sports psychiatrist who helped him tremendously He is not in that state again now just a little bummed. Big hug for Nick everyone.

Well, Sonny, THANKS for another great year discussing/venting over our Mets through all their issues, good and bad. And thanks to all the other contributors who lent their voices/ideas. As you said, what a perfect way to end this season with Ollie walking in the winning run. All because of his "machismo" in not taking the cut to AAA. He gained nothing, and lost an opportunity to improve. He can pitch in Mexico if he likes, but I doubt he'll be on the Mets roster ever again. As you know by now, Omar and Manuel are out, replacement TBA at a later time. I'm not sure where they will go for a GM and who he might pick as manager, don't have any favorites at this time. We'll see you on the winter discussion page.

Thanks syam for those kind words I very much appreciate your contributions thru the season; I have enjoyed your comments a lot. We Mets fans are a special breed. I would also like to express my thanks to all of you who posted here I hope you enjoyed your visits here. :D

Not much left to say about the Jerry Omar thing it has been written and talked about to death. I know my BlackBerry is all tuckered out from yesterday I was on it the whole day. The main thing is they are gone and I am very excited about what the changes will mean in 2011.
I don’t expect a new GM to be put on place for least 3-4 weeks and perhaps another 2-3 weeks before we know who the next manager will be. I hope the Wilpons stay true to their word and let the new GM run the team without interference which is something I doubt very much happened with Omar in spite of what they both said. I also hope of course that the new guy is a Wally Backman lover.

Yes there will be a Mets winter report I will keep everyone up to date with what is going on the Mets over the winter, keeping in touch up with the boys at winter ball as well as the ones who have chosen to take the winter off.

I will see you guys in Mets winter report 2010-11 and NY Mets 2011

Have a great winter everyone

I leave you all with this

not sure i get the collins over backman thing

collins seems to have imploded in 2 diff places

btw i like a tough manager

and think the mets need one

but why 2 years? seems like a hedge to me - that they don't really believe in him

that podesta made the call

showalter/valentine were my best favs - with buck gone to orioles, i had hoped for bobby v but he has too much personality for the wilpons i guess and def too much for alderson who is bringing back his boys - podesta ricciardi etc.

glad its not melvin - need a taskmaster

had the 15 game plan this year - have to decide if to renew

prob will
