I’m back! Thanks to saucy and Syam for keeping things going while I run around Miami trying to stay outta trouble. I got to Miami late Thursday afternoon and went directly to the Mets hotel, I was on a mission to see my boy Ike Davis who until Wednesday had been struggling so badly I needed to talk with him get his thoughts on what was going on I was concerned abut how he was doing. When I got there I found Murphy, Nieuwenhuis and Duda and we went down to the beach where Ike and Justin Turner where, after a few howzit goings I asked Ike if we could go somewhere and talk, we went to this juice bar which was fairly empty sat down and his first words were “I know hat you are going to say” I told him I was concerned about his problems and how awful he looked on TV in the dugout he just looked so desponded. Ike said he had been feeling better the last couple of days and thought his at bats were improving. Of course he had just had that awesome day in Philly with a double and two run homer which really gave him his confidence back. As Ike explained it he was trying really hard and he understood the problems with his being out in front of the ball and keeping his front shoulder from flying open. He changed the bat positioning and avoided starting to fast, he understood the problems totally but until Philly just could not seem to get it together. He spoke about Murphy and how he wished he could approach his at bats the way Daniel does. Ike considers Murph an artist at the plate who analyses every pitch almost never swings at bad pitches always seems to know when to take a ball, where Ike on the other hand feels he goes out there and hacks away at everything, basically just chaos. Guys, you needed to see the look of sincerity on his face and in his eyes you would have felt as bad as I did for having bashed him around so much he really was trying very hard. After giving him a big hug and telling him how proud I was of him we headed back out to the beach where I spoke with Turner who said “so what did he tell you” I told JT what Ike had said, Justin and Ike are sharing an apartment in NY and so he saw first hand how much Ike’s troubles were bothering him. He would come home night after night and just be all quite and somber struggling with his situation; it was hard to see him like that. Justin also agreed that he saw a change coming with Ike and everyone in the clubhouse was trying to help Ike get thru. But that’s the way it is in that clubhouse with all the guys I have seen it first hand, I know Burkhardt has talked about it often, a closer loving bunch of guys on the same team does not happen everyday day. It all begins with DWright who leads by such great example every player respects and adores David so much he is always there for everyone; it is truly a bunch of brothers that enjoy cheering each other on and helping one another out. After speaking with Ike I felt a lot better abut how he was doing he seemed to be doing ok and his confidence is returning. Of course he will have his bad days but I really do believe he has turned the corner and is bouncing back.
I mentioned that Duda was there as well and this was the first time I ever saw him so talkative, Lucas it turns out has a terrific sense of humor he just took a while to come out of his shell, this fame thing took him by surprise and still can’t get used to the idea that fans will come up to him and ask for an autograph, who me?? He is not an unfriendly kind of guy he is just a really private and shy kid who all of a sudden has begun to open up and get more involved with his teammates, he talked to me about the rush he feels going out on the field and how much more comfortable he is getting in right field especially with the new dimensions at Citi. I later joked to Murphy, DUDA TALKS!!! WHO KNEW
I did want to comment on the new Marlins Park which I did not like very much. For one thing it is way too big for my taste, it is gynormous. It is also kinda tacky looking with all that puckie green color that does not match well with the blue walls and seats, Yuk. Then there is that monstrosity in center field that announces a Marlins home fun, I mean have ya seen that thing?

Good grief, now I know what a rainbow would look like if it threw up

They even have live fish in tanks left/right behind home plate I have to think that glass is pretty strong to take any balls that might hit it but how about those poor little fishies I mean how would you like to be home swimming around in your house mindin your own business and this 90 MPH fastball hits your house I gotta think by the time the season is over there a gonna be a lot of shell shock fish in that tank.
Last of all there is that retractable roof, now I get it when it rains it will be nice to have but the last two days have been sunny and beautiful outside not hot with low humdidity, so why in heck did they keep the roof closed? I’m sorry but that is not the way to watch a baseball game all closed in like that, it may be fine for hockey or basketball but not baseball there is just something unnatural about that. It may also be why the grass in some spots looks so bad it needs sunlight. There are a ton of wide high windows in the outfields so that sorta helped but still I felt very closed in and did not like it at all.
They have a Clevelander nightclub right in the park it’s in left field right next to the bull pen. A bunch if us went in Friday after the game and hung out a while I did not care for the music which was heavy on the salsa side I asked the DJ if that was the only music he played and he said “pretty much” Burkhardt said you can actually hear the music in the stands during games.
That was a very scary sight seeing Dickey hit by that ball I spoke to Diilon Gee later and he said that RA and Collins decided since the wrist felt a little stiff he would leave the game to play it safe. But later last night he felt much better and said he did not think he needed an X-ray and is not expected to miss a turn in the rotation. I am sure we will learn more after RA wakes up today and sees how he feels but it looks like it will not be a deal, Finally I have to mention what an outstanding job Mike Nickeas did catching Dickey, that was no easy task I can tell you and there was concern with Thole out if Mike was up to the challenge of catching the knuckleball but he was great.
Whew! Think I have written enough for now I will be going down to the park soon to watch DP and after the game and some Mexican food head back home to NY
