New York Mets 2012

Got home and caught the last two innings Matt Harvey pitched.....hasn't pitched in 12 days and had some command problems early in the game,a few walks but only allowed three hits and two runs in six and two thirds innings.Showed a lot of life on his pitches and showed his tough, competitive nature as though he wasn't sharp he retained a mid 90's fastball all the way through and got outs when things got a bit shaky.Josh Satin at second couldn't handle cleanly a likely double play and only got one out, which allowed one of the runs against Harvey to score. It appears Matt may make another start or so as the Mets may want to have him work on his command and secondary pitches but all in all a very solid effort.
Disappointed to see Buffalo unravel, fall to Toledo 4-2 with a disapponting effort from the bullpen ....a try at at a rally fizzled in the ninth for the Bisons. They seem to get great support from their fans, and always good to see that familiar face of Wally Backman, once from those great Met teams of the mid to late 80's now doing very well as the manager of the Buffalo Bisons.

Was really disappointed in Jennry Mejia, just not impressing at all right now as he allowed the last two runs by Toledo ,gave up several hits and looks like he's going to takke a good while if ever to help shore up the Mets bullpen. The second baseman for Buffalo Rodriguez made an awesome dive stop and Adam Loewen who also had a big home run a tremendous scoop at first in defense of Matt Harvey ....Jason Bay lost a ball in the lights in left it appeared and really didn't do much else, though it appears he will be activated probably for tomorrow at Washington.Looks like Matt den Dekker may need some more time to develop ad won' be called up before the end of the Buffalo season....really lit up Binghamton the first half but AAA is often an adjustment.

Well, this might just be the defining series for the season starting tonite. The Nats are in first place, and if the Mets are going to make any noise about the division or a wild card spot, it HAS to start tonite. Getting swept by the Braves was atrocious. Lost a lot of ground and momentum in my eyes. The overall pitching was a mess, the offense too spotty. Sometimes the All Star break can cause that, but the Mets can't use that as an excuse anymore, it's over and done with. They need to get back up to speed, and with a right hander going for the Nats, it's imperative to win tonight. Let's go Mets!!!

So I am going to say in spite of what a lot of media people are saving, Matt Harvey pitched well enough to make the promotion to the bigs. Yes he did not have his best last night and had issues especially the walks but he hit 95 mph and featured a good breaking ball. We expected him to not be in perfect form manly due to the enormous pressure put on him by the media to do well last night, saying things like this could mean the difference if he comes to NY or not, even Collins said last night’s start was essentially an audition. The ball park was full of people watching taking notes on the phone judging and analyzing his every move. I sat with in eye site of J.P. Ricciardi who was sitting behind home plate and he was writing down every move Harvey made and Matt was very much aware of that. When J.P was asked if he thought Harvey was ready all he said was he was going to speak to Sandy Alderson and discuss it so we will see but he did walk away last night with a lot of good things about Matt even though he wasn’t as good as he has seen him. He also went on to say that when the decision comes, it wouldn’t be based on just last night’s game (as Collins suggested) and he wasn’t told that if he pitched well tonight he’d be in the big leagues. Harvey let up two runs and three hits, while walking four, with 100 pitches, in 6.2 innings I asked Wally Backman what he thought and he said what he has been saying all along that Matt is just about ready but another start in Buffalo couldn’t hurt and believes that the best option for Matt would ne top one more game in AAA and then pitch with the Mets in Arizona next Thursday and give Batista the start on Saturday, but it just seems that Wally has changed his mind on that position almost every other day. I spoke to Kevin Burkhardt this morning and he thinks Harvey is ready to be promoted and Batista is a Band-Aid, not a long-term solution, given the choice between Harvey and Batista the choice it has to be Harvey and leave Batista in the pen and I completely agree, there is no question about his stuff at this point it’s simply a matter of him pitching for the Mets, gaining experience, learning from coaches and players and becoming more confident. Start Harvey Saturday. Kevin will be talking about Harvey on tonight’s broadcast.
I spoke with Harvey both before and after the game and while I will keep most of Matts remarks after the game private he did say he wasn’t all that happy about the way it went because of so many walks. I can tell you before the game he said he thinks he is ready he is just not sure if the bosses think he is and is prepared to take whatever comes his way and take it as it comes. Oh and there is one other thing he said about his possible promotion and that is he wishes it was not coming as a result of an injury to a very good friend of his Dillon Gee which makes it all very bitter sweet for Matt.

The last time I saw Harvey before last night he was working on a new grip for his changeup, he in fact demonstrated it for me and I got to keep the ball he used to explain it to me, it was not like any other changeup grip I had ever seen before a Matt Harvey original if you will, last night he used that new grip mixing it in with his fastball and curve.

Unfortunately I did not get a chance to speak with Jason Bay I had the chance once when he was speaking with den Decker but missed out. His game last night was not all that much going 0-for-2 with two walks and uncharacteristically lost a ball in left field he never does that. Jason flew into Washington today was activated and is in the lineup tonight against the Nats Omar Quintanilla is out to make room for Bay. With the Mets facing two lefties in the series against the Nats Jason’s right hand bat will be needed. After going about 3-11 in 4 rehab games I am not sure what Jason has left in his tank but if ever we need to step up, starting tonight, and give us some help that time would be now. All eyes on Jason tonight.

Meantime Dillon Gee was discharged from the hospital saw doctors today and refuses to say he is done for season, although it will be six weeks before he can throw a baseball again all depending on how his rehab goes. Dillon also said doctors believed the problem came from repetitive motion from pitching. 96 percent of shoulder artery was blocked and they used vein from groin to patch it all up. On Sunday doctors couldn't even find a pulse in his arm the Sunday before he had surgery. Dillon explained that he really can’t do anything. There’s no cardio or anything else he just has to wait and try to let that artery heal. The clot would not have become life-threatening if it broke off because it would have traveled to his hand and once he heals, it shouldn’t be something he will have to deal with again. Dillon did say that Right now he feels good, his arm feels good and all the symptoms are gone. I am here to tell you guys for a while there Dillon was one scared dude he could have suffered permanent muscle-tissue damage that may have jeopardized his career. So happy for him

Lucas Duda’s phone went to voice mail no news yet on how he made put with the doctor. I am sure Burkhardt will have more tonight.

Update on my post from earlier today
It will be Batista who will pitch on Saturday and not Harvey. Harvey will be a Mets sometime this year, Wheeler will not. Kevin Burhartdt is preparing a full update for tonight’s pre game live on SNY at 6:30 Kevin will discuss a lot from Sandy Alderson who speaks about how the Mets are buyers, with bullpen being top priority, however they won't do anything to damage plan for 2013-14'
Lucas Duda received an anti-inflammatory shot to address his left hamstring, doctors found nothing alarming during his exam. Looks like Lucas could be back in the lineup by Wednesday.

Sonny, thanks for that update and ypur perspectives on Harvey and the Gee situation.Just glad Dillon can make a full recovery and his career isn't in jeopardy anymore because of the risk of serious damage due to the clot.I'm pretty much with you regarding Matt Harvey....was he at his best?Of course not because of the walks but he showed great stuff, hope this change up grip really helps him get that third pitch he needs to master to truly become an ace.He showed a competitive, not gonna give in nature....that's what will make him never settle and always get better.Hoping Lucas Duda only needs a day or two off but seriously,"Dude"has to step it up.He was such a good hitter last August and September and has to let the power flow naturally, because he's got such a damn good natural swing he's so strong he'll hit a few just by accident. But he has to be a hitter again up there, not try to showcase his power because no way he's just a .250 or so hitter if he really is himself at the plate. It looks like we'll see Harvey first really soon, maybe Arizona next week which is better in a way because he comes to Citi Field against the Dodgers Saturday all eyes will be on him....the last thing Matt needs is to feel he's being looked upon as the Mets new young "savior".

Bad Sausy coming out,and I am pissed!!!!It may not matter how good Matt Harvey or Zack Wheeler is because if the Mets bullpen cannot be counted on to preserve any lead,to hold the fort and close the door when they take the lead nothing is going to matter.I checked the score updates periodically at work last night and was so elated when Jordany Valdespin hit that three run homer in the top of the ninth to put the Mets on the board with a 3-2 lead. Then Parnell came in,and I was nervous, very nervous indeed....when you feel more comfortable with Frank Francisco than Parnell, you know things aren't good.A couple of strikeouts sure but allowed a couple of hits including the game tying one.Fuck,Parnell....you're dad's a fireman and so are you when you come in,you don't light a fucking match and through in some kerosene for good measure!!!You're a fucking pussy, always gifted but never able to consistently control it...when we need you to bear down and get three fucking simple outs you can't do it..always either the control goes or you throw predictable sequence of pitches and your location is off.How many times can you blow perfect opportunities for the Mets to be taken seriously as playoff contenders when you can't fucking do your job for one fucking inning.....you do great for a few games if you're not closing...but go into the ninth and we might as well just say the Mets have lost the game. How FUCKING weak is that?????!!!!!!!!!!!!

THEN Daniel Murphy gets on and Josh Thole drives a run scoring double to take a 4-3 lead....and the Bullpen of Horrors continues it freak show with Tim Byrdak and Pedro Beato, giving up a game tying triple to rookie phenom Bryce Harper(who still isn't as good as Mike Trout,Jersey boy!!!!)and a game wiinning wild pitch. Thanks guys.Fucking beautiful.I wonder what tortures you have in store for Mets fans today?!!!!!!!!!!!.

Cynical?Absolutely...but it's not like Mets fans are surprised any more,or shocked. Are we orchestrating another second half collapse?Well what we should do is have Sandy Alderson demonstrate for sure that if you can't handle your responsibilities, put people there who don't play that same shit game.I'm fucking sick of it....I'm sure sonny, syam and all Mets fans are as well!I just hope sonny doesn't think I went too far on my rip job,but frankly WHEN is Parnell or the rest of the bullpen going to work like a championship contender one?One that opponents can take seriously?

This will be short don’t have much time today. I did wanna say I love the “Bad Saucy” when he comes out to play if not for him and Syam there would be very little tellin like it is in this thread. Trouble is I am too close to the guys and have a problem being too negative on them, I speak with a lot of them I know the frustration they are feeling and how hard they all try (pen included) so it’s difficult for me to come out swinging on them,
what I do instead is head over to the gym and hit stuff :jasun:

I will try and get back in here tomorrow with more on the future of the bull pen, Jason (0-3) Bay. I will say this about Bay, yesterday when he was pulled in the ninth inning he said he had “no problem” with it, No problem Jason??? Really??? Well I have a problem watching you pretend to be a major league baseball player.
See…sometimes I can go off on one of the guys…I feel better now. ;)

The Achilles Heel that is the Mets Bullpen has bitten them badly since the All-Star break. You look at the biggest the Mets have lost games this year, and that will be at the top of the list.
As for Jason Bay..the Mets did some bad contracts but that is easily the worst one of the past few years and like the Yanks with A-Rod,will ocntinue to haunt them until it's done.

Great game today,9-5 win for the beleaguered Mets...RA wasn't too sharp but battled and only allowed three runs despite ten hits in seven plus innings.Great thing was pounding Gio Gonzalez, who has ben magnificent for the Nats teaming with Steve Strassburg for an imposing 1-2 punch at the top of the rotation.Getting to him for six runs in less than four innings was really impressive ....Ike Davis hit a homer, his 14th and drove in another run with a single and David Wright hit two homers, driving in five for 14 homers and 65 RBI.Coming home to CitiField to face the Dodgers and Nats before going on what could be a make or break, long Western road trip."Let's Go Mets"!!!

Welcome sexymo123 please continue to express your thoughts about our team.

Yeah saucy it was a terrific win, I still have not seen the game my Cyclones had another really long extra-inning game yesterday and I was pretty out of it by the time I got home and then the news about the shooting came and I am just not in a mood for baseball. In fact Cyclones play at home tonight with the SI Yankees and I sure do wish the game gets cancelled cause NOBODY wants to play tonight. By the way we did win that 15 inning game with a sacrifice fly by Richie Rodriguez to break up the scoreless game. If we play in Brooklyn and I guess we will Dillon Gee gets his Bobblehead night, just wish it was on another day.

Forgive me guys I am just not in the mood to write anymore today my heart is broken over this senseless shooting and my thoughts and prayers go out to all the victims’ family and friends.

Like everyone else I was extremely frustrated by the bullpen in games 1 and 2 of the Washington series. It wasn't just one or two guys, it was all of them. As I've stated before, Parnell's fastball is just to straight. Isn't there anyone who could give him a pointer on how to get a little movement, that's all he needs. His curve ball worked pretty well, for the most part, but they sat on his fastball and when he threw it, they clocked it. DWright continues to carry the team, he really needs some help. They didn't quit when down in the late innings, but showed a soft offense early in the first two games. Game 3, of course, the lit up Gio early and often. Was nice to see, but again the bullpen tried to make it close. Oy! Lets Go Mets!!

Welcome,Confused Jew and I'm glad you're not just reading but contributing and hope to hear from you alot more!
Well,syam...not suffering from a breakdown of our bullpen in the Dodgers series so far but of the starters as Confused was mentioning.Might be that Johann is really still suffering from the effects of that rolled ankle,he's going on the DL and not going to pitch until after the Mets return from their west road epic.RA Dickey has been roughed up as of late,Chris Young is tenuous going beyond six and Miguel Batista just can't be trusted out there any more. How long before Jonathon Niese hits the wall?It looks like our coach is turning back into a pumpkin at the stroke of midnight,or in the Mets case the second half as we're now at 47-47 and our offense is hard pressed to score in bunches anything but intermittently.Still too early to give up but I sense we don't have enough in the tank to stay beyond the .500 mark the rest of the way......if we are fortunate.

Just read where Miguel Batista has been designated for assignment. He has not done well at all lately, so this is no surprise. Brought Elvin Ramirez back up. He was a little uneven in his last round with the Mets, but I think he's worth a look, to see what he can do. I agree, the Mets are about done for this season and the playoff situation. Not enuff pitching to make a good run. Time to see what some young pitchers can do, and maybe pick up someone in a trade. I think we'll see Mr Harvey in a couple of weeks, just to get his feet wet.

Hello boys  (*8*)

The Phillies are doing very ugly things this year. :(

Hey Scrub how ya doin girl we have missed you around here
Now that the Bastia experiment has as expected failed and he has been designated for assignment (never should have brought him in) we are now going to do what we should have done from the start and that is bring in Matt Harvey. I am aware of his bad start the other day in Buffalo but I don’t care about that I know is what Matt is capable of I have known him for a while now and I want him in the rotation now. Matt left this morning for Citi field and will pitch on Thursday. When he arrives today he will be placed on the taxi squad which will allow him to be in the dugout in uniform and then be added to the active roster on Tuesday. We don’t know what change will be made to make room for Harvey but someone will be demoted to AAA, I won’t speculate who that will be an announcement should come down by Tuesday. By activating Harvey early he will be allowed to throw a bullpen session with Dan Warthen as soon as today giving him a chance to get acclimated to the surrounds in the bigs before he makes his start against the Diamondbacks. I am not worried about Matt although for sure we will be watching his command and how that will work against big league hitters. Look, we can’t expect him to completely dominate in his first start we know he has work to do, I am thinkin especially in his off-speed stuff. So everyone taker a deep breath and I say that especially to some of my the media friends who are already saying this is a bad idea and let the kid pitch just calm the fuck down and give him time he will succeed. Meanwhile, Harvey’s leaving Buffalo will open up a spot for Zack Wheeler who is due for that promotion from AA Binghamton.
Harvey's promotion will be at least a put a dent in our starting rotation problems but next and just as important is the pen I would like to see both Jenrry Mejia and Jeurys Familia brought ion ASAP.

Next is the outfield we have to do something about Bay, I don’t care what they do send him to AAA bench him shoot him I don’t care just get rid of him, we have to put Jordany Valdespin and Scott Hairston in a left field platoon situation (lefty/righty). We also have to decide what to do with Nieuwenhuis he is not being given enough playing time and it is affecting him big time. Either platoon him with Torres or send him down where he can play every day; he will never get stronger sitting on the bench. Duda in right is still very much a work In progress he concerns me a bit but I would stick with him for a while more.

As to the infield stop messin with Murphy an let him play against the lefties he had his second four-hit game of the series on Sunday and is now batting .305 what is this fear Collins has about Murph and lefty batters? Davis, Murphy Tejada and Wright EVERYDAY!
Use Turner and Cedeno to give days off here and there as well as off the bench.
Speaking bout Murph and yes I know I do that a lot, Saucy and I have mentioned Daniel has a brother Jonathan who also plays baseball, he was picked in the 19th round by the Minnesota Twins. He plays a lot of different positions and has impressive base stealing skills the kid can jet around the bases. Here is some amateur video of him taking BP and playing the infield, see any resemblance to Daniel?

Really can't see his face clear enough to tell...is it recent?Funny though how Jonathan can be so much more athletic than Murph....speaking of Murph,so happy to see him looking so locked in at the plate.THAT'S the Murph we all know and love!;)30 doubles
ready after tonight!

Now a little more Bad Sausy....Chris Young did his part going seven strong innings only allowing two runs really early.DWright and Ike hit solo home runs, but of course wasn't enough.Davis' line shot down the right field line tied the game but the Mets could not do ANYTHING.Who has taken over the body of Jason Bay?How did such a good power/RBI guy get so utterly useless?I'd rip him to shreds here but really, what can you say?Not like he doesn't care or isn't trying....scary part is he is trying and just can't get it done. And when the always reliable Ruben Tejada muffed a low throw from Tim Byrdak that would have been a routine double play, getting the Mets out of any trouble in the top of the 10th,all hell breaks loose and for the second time in a row the Nats score a bunch of runs in extra innings and leave the Mets in the dust.Pedro Beato, who was the reliever getting his butt kicked after Byrdak was removed was then sent down after the game for...wait for it....firestarting reliever Manny Acosta.Didn't we release his ass?And is Chris Schwinden REALLY on the AAA roster?WTF.....out with these guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!They may be sending down Lucas Duda too, which may be best for the Dude....last year in August and September,he showed moderate power but hit .290 overall weith 50 RBI.Now he looks lost out there.....maybe he shouldn't try to power the ball but return to what worked so well last year.Between Ike Davis, who thankfully looks like he is salvaging his season,Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Lucas Duda there are just TOO many strikeouts.Bay is near useless,Anfgel Torres doesn't impress me at all(catch him not even trying to slide hard and disrupt the second baseman like Roger Bernardino did to help fluster Ruben Tejada to misplay that potential double play that initiated the Nat's 6 run 10th inning outburst?!!!)I don't know who I want in my outfield right now.Like sonny said before...DWright,Ike,Murph,Tejada...play em EVERY day.But the outfield especially is a mess right now..too bad Brandon Nimmo is still probably at least two years away from consideration.

This Mets club right now is SO depressing, and with the pitching injuries,RA not consistent right now, bullpen lack of reliability PLUS very overworked, strikeouts and lack of great speed or power we just aren't very good right now.We probably are only dreamers if we think this particular club can contend right now.BUT that doesn't mean a feeefall is inevitable,it can be stopped an the Mets can still be competitive but SOMETHING has to change, some people HAVE to step up.Playing like this is unacceptable....fucking pick each other up and stop with this pussy play!!!

Pedro Beato mercifully has been optioned to Triple-A Buffalo, but will not change the situation as to who else will be demoted cause announced Manny Acosta is coming back from-AAA Buffalo to take Beato’s spot. So we are still waiting to hear who will go to make room for Harvey. There is a strong possibility it will be Lucas Duda who as we know has been struggling big time and seeing Valdespin in right field last night instead of Duda made me think hmmm that’s interesting. Kirk Nieuwenhuis is vulnerable as well but the money seems to be on Duda going down. I want only the best for Lucas and if that means him going to AAA to sharpen his skills so be it he’s a great kid works hard and will improve himself. Acosta is just a bandade fix imo but he has been pitching well in Buffalo including two scoreless innings last night. In the last month and a half Manny had an ERA of about 2.25 ERA in 17 appearances. Even if Lucas survives today there could be another move as soon as this weekend with the possibility of Mike Baxter coming back, Mike is playing very well now in his 10th playing rehab in Buffalo. I will jump in here if I can later when I find out who is going and when

We were supposed to see Frank Francisco today in Brooklyn with the Cyclones on a rehab assignment but last night we found out he won’t be here today cause he strained an oblique. I was so looking forward to meeting him today and picking his brain but that will have to wait now.

Saucy I did not mean similarities with looks between the Murphy brothers I meant throwing hitting etc

....and we continue to rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic....Manny Acosta....
