Do I smell a freindly bet? lol
Tell ya what; if Reyes is a Met on opening day I will attend the game at Citi wearing a Yankees jersey and cap. AND if he isn’t a Met you will attend the Yankees home opener wearing a Mets jersey (#7) and cap.
But seriously, I never would have imagined I would have ever felt the way I do about Reyes especially with all he had done for the team in the last 6 years but truth be told I don’t particularly care how it ends up.
Moving on I was psyched to see the seven players the Mets added to the 40-man roster, Robert Carson, Jeurys Familia, Wilmer Flores, Reese Havens, Juan Lagares, Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Cesar Puello I was surprised not to see Brad Holt on that roster which now stands at 38.
Friday was the deadline to add players who have four years of minor league experience to the 40-man roster to protect them from being eligible for the Rule 5 draft coming up at the Winter Meetings in early December.
For those of you unfamiliar with those names, lefthanded pitcher Robert Carson is a lefty pitcher and Famililaia is a righty pitcher, Jeurys Familia and Wilmer Flores are infielders Reese Havens, Juan Lagares, Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Cesar Puello are outfieders.
Carson, who spent last season with Binghamton (AA), won the Sterling Award in single A in 2009. Familia, won the Sterling Award for Binghamton (AA), the 2009 Sterling Organizational Pitcher of the Year award and was an Eastern League All-Star this season, Flores, batted just under .300 with 9 or 10 home runs and just about 80 RBIs for St. Lucie, my boy and good friend Havens was in Binghamton (AA) last year hitting somewhere about .290 he had six home runs and something like 25 RBI in less than about 60 games, he was also a Florida State League All-Star in 2009. Lagares bounced between Binghamton (AA) and St. Lucie (A) for a combined .349 with ten home runs and just over 70 RBI. And was an All-Star in 2010 for Savannah. Then have Kirk Nieuwenhuis, another player I am proud to know and am very excited about I am sure you have seen me write about him over the last year, he hit 305 had six home runs and 15 RBI in Buffalo (AAA) last season and was so proud to see him in his first major league Spring Training in 2011.I dono much about Puello, but he played around 115 games for St. Lucie and finished with a .250 batting average, He did win the Sterling Award for Savannah in 2010.
While we are on the subject of the minors let me also tell you who some of the players I follow who will be eligible for the Rule 5 draft
From Buffalo, Mark Cohoon, Dylan Owen, Elvin Ramirez and Raul Reyes
From Binghamton, the one and only and future superstars Brad Holt and Brandon Moore, I know you have heard me rave about them, Brandon has watched me pitch and helped me a lot with my game. Also from there Sean Ratliff and Tobi Stoner
From A Savannah, Luis Nieves, Miguel Tejada and Wilfredo Tovar
And my proudest players from my beloved Cyclones Eduardo Aldama Chris Hilliard Richard Lucas,Orlando Tovar and Amauris Valdez
Just to remind you players are naturally protected from the Rule 5 draft 4 times if they were younger than 19 on the June 5th immediately prior to the date on which they signed their first contract, and 3 times if they were age 19 or older. Now if they signed their first contract after the end of the season for the team to which they're assigned, then their natural Rule 5 protection extends an additional year. Got that??
Please forgive me if I bore any of you guys with this minor league stuff but it is a passion of mine
