Hey guys,

I'm planning to go to the States next year, I'll be taking an english course, well it's pretty much an excuse to go there. I've got 2 options: Taking a course in New York, or one in LA.

Los Angeles: Pros: The course is $2000 cheaper. Cons: The course is near Beverly Hills so I think it'll be very expensive to live there. Plus, from what I've read, it seems like the lifestyle in LA isn't as exciting as New York's.

New York: Pros: The biggest city in the world! A lot to see, a lot to do. Cons: The course is more expensive.

So you guys who live on the States, what's your advice? Which one should I take?

Manhattan is more expensive to live in than L.A.

It also depends what time of year the course is, you don't want to by in NYC in the winter unless you are used to it.

L.A. = trash for trashy scum.

NY is the epicentre of the world and you will meet anyone and just about everyone you could ever wish to meet <3

That's a big insult, the way I view it.

To the OP: I like both cities. NYC has a more developed public transit system so it's easy to get around. And like you mentioned, it has a fun city life, along with many other pluses that I think you will only experience by living there yourself.

LA has a mild weather, meaning it's not too cold in winter and not too hot during summer (especially this year!). The public transit system isn't as convenient as that of NYC, but there are still tons of very cool places to go around. The traffic is not something I like, though. If you drive here you get stuck on the freeway a lot, just a personal experience.

Both cities are great. I live in LA because I love the endless sun, mountains, beaches and the vibe here.

New York is a great city too... really depends on what you want. Although you can find cheaper places near Beverley Hills than in Manhattan. And if the course is $2000 cheaper, I'd say that's a pretty big thing.

which program is better.

Well, depends on what your looking for. The living and scenery are completely different. In LA, you pretty much get it all. If you want to go mountain biking, camping, ski-ing, beaches, what ever you want you go for it. Out here, you need a car, public transit isn't really great, but there is NOTHING more relaxing then smoking a fat one, driving down PCH with your windows down, listening to the best music in the world. Clubs are fun, foods good, kinda expensive, all of this really all depends on the area your in tho. Guys was way hot to, but kinda stuck up. Ok not kinda, they are stuck up.

New York is nice also. Nice in its own way. Its big, and crowed, and polluted. And loud. And you relay on pubic transit to get you around. Not sure if they did anything out doors there besides yell. Ah yes, the average the New Yorkers pass time, arguing. They are such violent people.

I really didn't spend a lot of time out there and seeing how obviously biased i am i say do more research yourself. Fuck, try Youtube, google.

Lol it was meant to be an insult. Havent you seen all the trashy scum that inhabit LA? Parasite Hilton, Chris Crocker, Kardashian sisters, Perez HIVton are just some of the scum that come to the top of my head.

Ohh its funny you would bring that up because i am kinda of a hi and by friends with Khloe (MY GIRL) and Kourtney. Ive meet Khloe 4 times now and Kourt 2. Perez, ive seen him 1 time before but refused to acknowledge his filthy presence, i hate that faggot. And i heard that Paris was apparently in one of the same clubs with me at some time in the pass altho i never saw her myself.

Lol, that says a LOT about you then doesnt it. I prefer people with talent, artists and singers and actors. Not big tittied, small brained, no talent whores.

Ohh, well that says a LOT about yourself. You don't like big titties, shame for shame brotha. And very limiting. Some of those people can be a ton of fun to be around. And you sound pretentious. You need to give everyone a chance buddy.

Lol. I've seen enough of those whores on tv/magazines to know enough what theyre like and what they care about and how "fun" they are.

No do not read that shit. Your smart enough to know that SOME magazines rather its the news or just entertainment have a hidden agenda. Most of that shit are just rumors back by flat out jealousy (blogs). I really cannot say whos really doing what but i can only speak on what ive experienced before and its mostly all been in good fun. Never believe what you heard.

For the record... that whole bizarre Hollywood Trasherazi pretty much stays along the Sunset Strip. Most of the people in Los Angeles jus roll their eyes at it. Much like all those club kid freaks in New York City, they're entertaining for some, lame to others. But neither defines their cities.

I've hung out at a few of the Glitzy night clubs both here and in New York and they're really no different from each other. Just lots of young, beautiful and pointlessly-famous people mugging for a camera. It can be fun for a bit... but in both cities you can get lost in it.

This is a highly religious issue that Sir Ron plans to stay out of.....

I love both cities.

Both have their pros and cons...

The OP seems to have opened a real can of worms.

The solution? Easy! Come to old York and take your English course here. ;)

Another vote for you to consider more course options. Unless there is something really special about these two courses that other schools don't offer, it's my impression that ESL is everywhere. Two thousand dollars is a lot of money. Your English is already seemingly off to a good start, by the way. :D

New York, different school.

Thank you guys for your opinions.

So if I'm in L.A. and I don't have a car...what would I have to do?

Do you have friends in either city? For me, that would help me make the decision. I find that it can often times be better to see a city through the eyes of a local.

As for transportation in LA, that really depends on what you want to do. If you are staying at a major hotel, they often have buses that go directly to major attractions. If you have a friend in the area, they may want to help you see some other places. If that does not work, there is a little mass transit: metro, buses, etc., as well as cabs and the option to rent a car, which is what I would do to give me the freedom to do whatever I wanted to do.

Yeah ESL is everywhere but I don't really want to go to a small city, I don't want to go to Miami either, cuz it's full of latinos so it would be the same for me.

And that you for saying my english is good, I just want to make it perfect :).

Nah I don't know anyone in either city. I guess I'll have to trust you guys. Thank you for the answers.

What course are you taking? And at which universities in LA and NY? You should take those into consideration as well as just the city.
