Newsworthy: Cuba To Host LGBT Rights Convention

It's always one or the other, Jack.

Obama hasn't done (enough of) x thing: He has no balls, where's his leadership?

Obama does x: X was wrong. Socialist Communist anti-American Muslim.

That's the pattern, over and over and over. So what do you want to hear us say? We know your stance on something before you type it.

People tend to easily believe the crap like rareboy is pushing here about Cuba and don't look at history.

Cuba is not for human rights ... it is a totalitarian society where you do what the government wants and nothing else.

Please don't make this about me and attack me.

I know you'd be more comfortable in a society where only your point of view could be made. We all know your stance before you type it -- why bother?

Thank God we live in the United States of America.

^^

End the boycott .. open the borders ... free immigration .. embrace the Castro brothers .. do whatever the Castro's want.

What's mine?

You have me so pegged.

I'm glad you could tell me my stance on Cuba, though, since I didn't have one.

But you miss the point Jack.

As usual.

Cuba is hosting an international convention on homo rights.

If you and the rest of the right wingers actually looked at history as the only metric, you sure as hell wouldn't be cosying up to the totalitarian regimes that you claim as best buds forever around the world...like China...or Saudi Arabia. For that matter, if we only looked at the history of human rights...the US would look pretty sketchy to a lot of other countries.

What Cuba is doing is a step in the right direction in opening and participating in a dialogue on the rights of homos...you know...people like you.

You should be applauding this.

But I think you are also one of those hard liners who are stuck 50 years in the past and desperate to have an enemy to hate.

Cuba is not for human rights ...

Neither is the Republican Party.

Can you even imagine the Republican Party hosting a conference on LGBT rights? The party that wants a constitutional amendment to prevent gay marriage, because it considers love threatening to the quality of life in the United States?

Cuba is hosting an international convention on LGBT rights. The Republican Party won't even let gays into CPAC.

it is a totalitarian society where you do what the government wants and nothing else.

And what Republicans advocate is a theocracy where we all obey fundamentalist Christian "family values" which dictate repression of gay rights. Not to mention forcing women to deliver babies they do not want and discouraging birth control because your God prefers women to be pregnant.

What was that you were saying about government forcing people to do what it wants and nothing else?

Thank God we live in the United States of America.

Thank God we live in a land where we have rights - and not a land where we cannot marry, where women cannot control their own pregnancies, and where minorities are not allowed to vote.

Btw.

End the boycott .. open the borders ... free immigration ..

This would be a good start.

It would end the totalitarian regime of the Castro bros.

Oh. And why not give Guantanamo back to the country it belongs to. And moving the black ops gulag back onto US soil?

Uh. Because you know....it is pretty hard to read your comments about human rights in Cuba without being aware of the ultimate irony of Guantanamo.

It's amazing that you guys think that Cuba is open to any human rights.

^ It's amazing to us that you think that the Republican Party is open to any human rights.

From torturing people, to imprisonment of people forever without trial or charge, to blocking access to healthcare, to preventing minorities from voting, to blocking gay rights.

Cuba is hosting an international conference on LGBT rights. You guys are trying to stop gays from obtaining rights in the USA. You won't even allow gays into your conferences to discuss rights.

Who is more "open?"

All you need to know about Jack is that the quote he splashes at the end of his posts is taken entirely out of context, and was intended to be humour as the President took a quick change in protocol in order to admire Thomas Jefferson's view over the grounds of Monticello. It was meant in exactly the same way that Mel Brooks once said "It's good to be king" which was ALSO meant as humour.

Mel Brooks was playing a king in a movie. This is real life.

BTW, Obama still plays his weekly card game of deciding who's going to die.

You also don't know anything about me. 21 posts and you know me or anyone else here?

... unless you're a reincarnation of a banned member or using dual names. Hmmmmmm

I'm happy that Canada has had a relationship with Cuba for decades. It is a wonderful, vibrant and warm country.
Canada or Cuba? I'll vote for both.

The only reason we haven't normalized relations with Cuba is because the RNC has been sucking off the embittered Cuban refugees for votes all these years. It's time to grow up.

Cuba has been trying to turn the page for years---and our super dumb (mostly republican) policy towards them has been a real time waster---if we treated them a third as good as we treat Russia and China---we might be vacationing at a gay resort there by now.;)

Proof of the ignorance of what a totalitarian state means.

The point is that had our policies been different, Cuba might have stopped being so totalitarian. Clinton actually holds serious responsibility in that regard, since the pope's visit to Cuba on his watch offered a big opportunity, and he missed it completely.

Obviously Cuba is trying to spruce up its image. How much good holding this conference will do the people in the country is wide open to debate, but they wouldn't be holding it if a main reason wasn't to improve the regime's image around the world.

Better late than never, but it would be better not just to be more approving of the rights of their GLBT community but the individual liberties and concerns of all Cubans. Improving image I one thing but without personal freedom for all rings pretty hollow.
