And I don't see where there is nothing to stop them from going. They just weren't invited to participate.

Of course we know how totalitarian governments work. We're not stupid. But we have seen in case after case where totalitarianism can give way to more open societies with ongoing engagement with the west.

We've also seen decades of the US propping up totalitarian regimes all around the world if it suits the interest of the US.

I think you may not have a clear idea of how totalitarian governments operate.

Barring some catastrophe, Democrats have a lock on the presidency for the next ten years.

Actually, there's a simple way for the GOP to win a presidential election, but it would take a commitment against greed and for compassion that just isn't going to happen. If all the rich GOP backers who claim to be Christians actually suddenly started following Jesus, the Democrats would be in seriously deep trouble.
