Yeah, Vancouver wouldn't be a good choice, at least if you want to see snow IN the city. They have no guaranteed white Christmas, by any means, but snow is pretty much guaranteed nearby within a one-hour trip or so.

Visit ronboy at Christmas, though, and I can guarantee that it will be a white Christmas - Rochester and Syracuse are both somewhat snowier than Buffalo, though Buffalo seems to get most of the "publicity" about the big snows. A white Christmas is pretty much assured in Minneapolis, as kevbo says, but sometimes Chicago can miss.

Christmas is "white" here about 2/3 of the time.

One might think that Denver, being next to the mountains and being a mile up and all, would be guaranteed as well, but NOT true - their climate is very changeable and it can be 20 F. degrees above freezing even at that time of year (and the next day they can have 20cm of snow)!

Ravenstar, my dear Ravenstar, trust a 40 years old Montréaler, White Christmas is WAAAAAAAAAAY overrated!

I'll freely admit that snow can look pretty:

But after 5 minutes or so the prettyness fades away before the inconvenience of the white shit! You have to wear layer upon layer of clothing, big heavy boots, you risk to fall or be hit by something out of control like a car or a bunch of exited kid... The salt that is put on the sideway burns your pants and and the melted snow and dirt looks literaly like shit... If I can give one advice: don't leave australia for ANY reason!

I made a decision this week, that if I pass probation in April I'm going to go on a holiday next Christmas. I want to experience a white christmas but I have no idea where I want to go. It will be my first overseas holiday. Anyone got any suggestions of places I could go? I'm considering Vancouver, but I'm thinking maybe Europe might not be a bad idea either.

As far as a white Christmas goes... that's not at all a given in Europe (Scandinavia excepted).

I'm tempted by New York I must say, I've always wanted to visit New York.

Hell YEAH!! It's one of the greatest places to visit, that can be imagined. If you go THERE and you get bored because there's nothing to do, you aren't human.

And getting around "The City" is a charm. Just don't take a CAR there!!!
