The president and the secretary of defense call all military brass to Quantico - for an email address.

What made my jaw drop was that they packed 800 generals and admirals together in one room, and made it public beforehand. Has there ever been such a mass concentration of military bigwigs before, anywhere? Even with the tightest security it was a massacre waiting to happen. And they were packed like sardines--what if just one of them was incubating something infectious?

Beyond the danger of the grouping, the speeches were disrespectful and juvenile. A total disgrace!

Ironically, this might be a small win, because Trump and Hegseth have demonstrated to the generals that they have no clue what the fuck they're doing, nor do they have any understanding of the honor and respect that is so important in running the military.

Hopefully, they all could get together after the speech and organize the details of resistance. Because after those speeches, at least half of them must have been thinking about a military coup.

Paul Krugman nails it in his piece about an Autocracy of Dunces:

It’s clear that the decision to summon top officers from around the world to receive a lecture about “warrior ethos” from a man who installed a makeup studio at the Pentagon was made by Pete Hegseth. It confirmed publicly what is being whispered within the military, and presumably among our allies and enemies: that Hegseth is an abject incompetent who isn’t remotely up to the job. And this toe-curling performance is a reflection of his underlying panic.

The worrisome thing though, is that Hegseth and Trump are so incompetent and driven by ideology that it is easy to see them firing or retiring masses of the generals and replacing them with the kind of incompetent bootlickers.

And it is beginning...while these guys might think they are doing the honourable thing...all they are really doing is enabling TrumpCo. and helping to cement an authoritarian regime.

Their individual resignations won't count for anything. Better to be fired instead of running away.

I am sorry, but I see this as cowardice under fire. Self service instead of service to the nation.

Air Force Global Strike Command leader Thomas Bussiere retired hours after Defense Secretary Hegseth urged generals to resign if they disagreed with him. His nomination for vice chief of staff was previously withdrawn, cutting short a distinguished career.

And Trump can consider firing them all he wants. But he can't do it.

The thought occurred to me, regarding the facial hair prohibition, that the military currently has carve-outs for religious reasons. Which allows Jewish and Muslim Active Duty members to wear beards. Could one of the reasons for Hegseth's shave orders is to root out Muslim members of the military.

I clearly heard a declaration of war against the American people, "the enemy within".

All my life I was told the USA has three branches of government that act as checks & balances, keeping our leaders on-track.
I'm only seeing the failure of the legislative and judiciary to check a president who violates the Oath of Office - by the hour!
