Hollywood actress Ellen Page has come out as gay.

Speaking on Friday at a conference aimed at GLBTQ youth, the star of Inception and Juno said she was "tired of hiding" and "lying by omission".

"I'm here today because I am gay. And because... maybe I can make a difference. To help others have an easier and more hopeful time. Regardless, for me, I feel a personal obligation and a social responsibility," she said at Time to Thrive in Las Vegas.

"I also do it selfishly, because I am tired of hiding and I am tired of lying by omission. I suffered for years because I was scared to be out. My spirit suffered, my mental health suffered and my relationships suffered. And I'm standing here today, with all of you, on the other side of all that pain."

well that's nice---loved her in Juno and loved the movie---her acting is sorta one note and be curious to see how her career progresses.

I'm old enough that I had to read the article and see "Juno" to go "oh, right - her." But I'm glad she took the step.

I think I have you beat cos when I saw 'X-Men: The Last Stand', I was, like, hello?

Brave girl.

And guess what? She is a Canuck...

.
Good for her! Brave though she was, I could still hear the quivering in her voice. I liked the part where she said that she wants to help others - to make a difference in the lives of young people. :=D: ..| (!w!)

I've read around online a lot of people are saying they "knew" or could tell, but it never crossed my mind. I was blindsided by the news.

That being said--I'm very happy that she's reached this place. I'm sure she has not only let go of a huge boulder, but also inspired a lot of people to take that 'next step'.

:D

Someone will always be able to say that about any celeb or public figure because one of the first things people try to assign to public figures they don't like is that they're probably GAY.

I say the same thing about Zooey Deschanel

Just read about it myself, good for her!
I already loved her anyway. She's very talented.
I enjoyed her in Juno, and I don't think Inception would have worked without her.
She was kind of wasted in X-Men, though. Hopefully, the next one will be better.

I wasn't shocked, but it's great that she was able to come out!

I've honestly never heard of the woman. It's good that any Hollywood actor or actress should feel comfortable enough to come out though.

There are people that apparently always know. Every time someone comes out there is always someone somewhere that knew and they seem to try to take the person down a notch by knowing. Which is kind of mean considering coming out takes a lot of courage and should be celebrated for someone.

I read a comment on the video where someone was bothered that someone said "Straight people don't understand" and tried to make it out as if they do.

When you think everybody's gay, you can't ever be blindsided by a coming out. :)

Fun conversation between two of my friends.

"Did you hear Ellen Page came out?"

"Ellen Page? Who is she?"

"She's an actress. She was in that movie 'You're Old and Completely Out of Touch With Popular Culture'?"

"Oh, right - her."

The media has speculated she was a lesbian for ages so it doesn't come out surprising for me. Congrats for her though.

And I'd like to imagine one of my male friends who adores her has his dream shattered to pieces
