Didn't see a thread for this. I'm a football nut.

I just saw earlier this morning in SC they gave the headcount on # of new head coaches this year, wow 11. I knew there were a lot, and there's been some crazy-ass firing of coaches/coordinators and trading of players. One of the strangest seasons I've seen in a long time. I hear about a player, and go, oh wait, he's a Bear now. Oh wait, he's a Bill now. (Brett Favre aside, that's a whole another story.)

As usual though, Patriots and Chargers both overrated. SI predicted a few weeks ago that the Pats and Chargers would be the AFC matchup. Alright, sure, it's only just starting into Week 2 now; but those were some sad starts. And the Bears in the superbowl? No way. Did they think Cutler was the magic potion that was going to make a team with barely a winning season last year, horrible offense, become dominant? Not likely, but Any Given Sunday eh?

I think this is the year for the Chiefs to have a winning season. That was some great dynamite defense last week that I hadn't seen since the days of old.

Go Chiefs! Go Steelers!

The Chiefs will be better than most people expect them to be and the steelers should repeat as super bowl champions.

The chargers are all ego and they lack discipline. Norv Turner is not the right coach for that team at all. Expect a lot of close games from them and watch out for upsets of the team.

The patriots defense is not what it used to be. This is clear from Monday Night's game. Over the course of the season this will play out. It's entirely possible that the NY Jets will win that division.
I agree. I think Sanchez is one of the few rookies who performed to some degree as expected. Lotta QB duds, aside from the fact that being a rookie QB is rough anyway. But Jets are better off with him than Favre significantly. The well being of the team and the chance at a ring.

P.S - Don't expect a lot of replies to this thread of yours. Most gays hate football!
LOL, really? Why is that? I was raised watching football so it's rather ingrained into my mentality, and I think it's a great sport. Is it too anti-stereotypical to expect a football discussion on JUB? Just wondering, I don't make any of my friends watch games that hate football. :D But I noticed there was a college football thread, and it was quite long.

I was very surprised by the play of Sanchez against the Texans. He has one of the best young O lines in the league to protect him. If there is a challanger to the Pats in the Afc east this season it's the Jets. I would not go as far as saying this team will win it all, rookies can only get a team so far. The Baltimore Ravens with Flacco last year are a perfect example of this.

There are many reasons that I could cite for why this is. But that is a whole other subject entirely. Let's look at it this way, the sports sub forum has been around since 2007, yet there are only 3 pages of discussions. The Entertainment sub forum has been around for roughly the same time and look at how many pages are there.

Most gays I know dislike sports. That's not to say they all dislike it, I know of several who love sports. It's just rare. I'm glad to see you posting here. You should check out the Sports Bar in the Fun & Games sub forum for more sports talk. :-)

Yeah I figured it was more a stereotype than anything, but maybe it makes sense too. All the women I've known hate football LOL. I mean not to analogize gay to female but just a comparison here, so nobody shoot me. :) Anyway, I saw the Sports section, saw the college fb thread, and I couldnt help but wanna talk about it. I'll be sure to check out that Sports bar thread then.

Hope this thread catches on, I'm a Giants fan, happy with the start, still not sure how good or bad their defense will be, this week's game against the Cowboys should give me a better idea, although the secondary still has some injury issues.

Breakfast? What does that have anything to do with breakfast? LOL.

Man tough call on Giants vs Cowboys. THAT is gonna be a good matchup. I'll root for Cowboys cause have always favored them since even before the Aikman days, and I've got Romo as the QB in one of my fantasy football leagues (and I want to win!). Eli is really coming into form these past few seasons and in Week 1, even though overall they had some problems, his talent as a QB really shone.

I know I'm probably talking to myself here...

I hope Cassel sits out another week. Brodie Croyle had something like 66% pass completion, and they almost won. He was always bumped out of starter position or injured, never got sufficient fair opportunity to learn the NFL style of offense and the pocket passer (if that even still exists, a dying breed). But he was really good this past week against the Ravens, and he was the best passer Bama ever had IMO. So two birds with one stone kind of deal.

Go Chiefs! :D (Division game this Sunday)

And that was against the vaunted Baltimore Defense to boot!

I have the Chiefs winning this weekend. I think Oakland will be a tough matchup for the Chiefs. But I like what the GM has done in KC, so far. It's kind of like what Atlanta and Miami did last off-season.

I agree, but I don't think that it will be as tough a matchup as it was with the Ravens. I could be eating my words, since the Raiders matchup with the Chargers showed differently. But I'm a believer that its because the Chargers are overrated this year, and they're not as good as people think. So a bad team vs a bad team then.

I'm not sure I agree with Haley firing that offensive coordinator though, who had previously turned the cardinals offense into dynamite. Didn't even give him a chance in a season game And now, I believe now, Haley IS the offensive coordinator. They've yet to hire anyone to fill that position. Weird.

Are you ready for some footbaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall?!?!?!?!

Noon, Raiders@Chiefs! Go Chiefs!
Afternoon, Steelers@Bears! Go Steelers!
SNF, Giants@Cowboys!
MNF, Colts@Dolphins!

REEEEEDDDDDDSKKKKKIIIIIIINNSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! redskins

I'm a huge Redskins fan, but they fucking suck this year. Jim Zorn is a complete buffoon who couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag. I've never seen worse play calling.

The Redskins will lose next week @ the Lions. I hope we hire a real coach next year.

Sadly, theyre lookin better so far this season than they have in years.

they need to open up the offense and put more trust in Jason Campbell. It would be nice to see em air it down the field every once in a while.........

And also do something about their rushing defense. They were 8th in rushing defense in '08, and yet they just gave up 100+ yds two weeks in a row.

That cracked me up during the SNF Halftime Show where they were doing the day's highlights. Showed the cardinals highlight plays and the commentary was made rather nonchalant and without pause "...And Warner completed a record 92% of his passes and he's 92 years old. Then they..."

I was in hysterics. :D

I'm so freakin' glad that football season has started. I gave up on the Dbacks after they fired Bob Melvin. After the 49ers beat the Cardinals in week 1 I was a little concerned, the team looked disorganized and totally unprepared. I think they needed a tune-up against an easy opponent and thank you Jaguars. (What a mess that team is now. How soon before they become the LA Jaguars?) Anyways, the Colts come in to town on Sunday night and this will be a barometer for the team. I think the game will be exciting and if the Cards have a winning season, we will be able to tell after this game.

Go Cards!

Sometimes, a season record belies a team's true performance.
