Just as a thought, how many people could locate the following cities on a map that had no words - just boundaries drawn?
Mumbia, India (population 18,042,000)
Lagos, Nigeria - 13,488,000
Calcutta, India - 12,900,000
Karachi, Pakistan - 11,774,000
Dhaka, Bangladesh - 10,979,000
Õsaka, Japan - 10,609,000
Tianjin, China - 10,239,000
Jakarta, Indonesia - 9,815,000
All of
these cities are larger than London. I'm not trying to excuse his lack of education, but perhaps he specialized in Asian and African geography.
Just a thought.
I've met people here who didn't know that Paris was in Europe. When I introduced my friend Jimmy to my airhead friend Secha, I told her that Jimmy was from Michigan. She said, "Oh, Michigan, the Windy City." She's got large boobs, however, and that's what counts in this town. Jimmy was not allowed to look at them, however, because his wife was close by. Secha was wearing a turquoise taffeta fairy outfit at the time, complete with magic wand, and it wasn't Halloween - it was an opening for my brother's art at
Bergamot Station in Santa Monica.
