NFL Star: They Speak English In London?

um.. GL.. what you mean "our educational system is not that great either?"

isn't San Antonio in Texas? And isn't Texas in America?

Maybe Channing Crowder is an avid reader of Oscar Wilde.

"We have really everything in common with America nowadays except, of course, language."- The Canterville Ghost

What would be truly sad is if one of our fine universities has granted him a degree.

I've always assumed most professional athletes were college graduates. Do they bother to complete their degree work anymore?

Mr. Crowder graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Football.

There are no prerequisites to get into this program.

Henry Higgins, in "My Fair Lady":

"Why can't the English
teach their children how to speak?
Norwegians speak Norwegian,
The Greeks are taught their Greek,
But use proper Englaish,
You're regarded as a freak......
.......There even are places where English completely disappears.
In America they haven't used it for years."

(My Fair Lady is based on GB Shaw's play, "Pygmalion")

^^ In my case... I can understand the 'street' Brits (cockney is the hardest) after my ears are tuned to the accent. Takes about 8 mins.

Example: The movie "Beautiful Thing" - I have a hard time following the dialog until about 5-10 minutes into it.

Crowder is just your typical Florida Gator....

Oh, Go Dawgs!!!

](*,)](*,)

How did he make it into the professionals anyway?

What college did he to to and who gave him the football scholarship?

The college should be noted for the fine bit of educating it did with this clown.

It may just be a football game in London, but the London crowds ought to "raze" this guy when he gets on the field to play.

he should be ashamed at the interview he gave - laughing through the whole thing like he was playing the fool. he sounded almost proud of the ignorance he was displaying in the interview.

what kind of salary does this clown draw each year???

eM.:(

Crowder was not only a terror on the field to opposing offenses at the Univ of Florida, but he was a terror in Gainesville as well. Crowder stayed in trouble and was suspended several times at UF. Twice in a 13-month span, he beat up revelers at a local nightclub. Once, with such severity, that the police report declared the victim as permanently disfigured. A Judge placed him on probation for about a year. He majored in Behavioral and Social Science. I think the classes should have just studied him.

3 years ago, current Alabama coach Nick Saban drafted Crowder in the 3rd round for the Miami Dolphins. He has again excelled, and will soon be re-working his contract for a much greater salary or be a free agent. Let's just hope he's smart enough to have an agent because I'm not sure he can read the contract. Yep, another outstanding person produced by the Gators.

^^I'm presuming he got probation because he was a local celebrity.

I hope his disfigured victim sued him for as much as he could get.

Just as a thought, how many people could locate the following cities on a map that had no words - just boundaries drawn?

Mumbia, India (population 18,042,000)
Lagos, Nigeria - 13,488,000
Calcutta, India - 12,900,000
Karachi, Pakistan - 11,774,000
Dhaka, Bangladesh - 10,979,000
Õsaka, Japan - 10,609,000
Tianjin, China - 10,239,000
Jakarta, Indonesia - 9,815,000

All of these cities are larger than London. I'm not trying to excuse his lack of education, but perhaps he specialized in Asian and African geography.

Just a thought.

I've met people here who didn't know that Paris was in Europe. When I introduced my friend Jimmy to my airhead friend Secha, I told her that Jimmy was from Michigan. She said, "Oh, Michigan, the Windy City." She's got large boobs, however, and that's what counts in this town. Jimmy was not allowed to look at them, however, because his wife was close by. Secha was wearing a turquoise taffeta fairy outfit at the time, complete with magic wand, and it wasn't Halloween - it was an opening for my brother's art at Bergamot Station in Santa Monica.

Oh, I seriously doubt it, especially when you read his comment about his friend named 'London'. If the rest of the stuff he said didn't sink him, that comment certainly did.

Mate, it seems you are the first person, who picked up on that part of the story, also.
Glad I wasn't the only one that acknowledged it. ..|

It was pretty hard to miss. Especially that comment about London being black, so the name had to be a coincidence. I actually laughed out loud at that one.

Its stupid how America gives so much attention to athletes. They go through school and college playing games and getting athletic scholarships instead of getting an education, and then become role models for young boys who want to be just like them. Its time we snapped out of this false hero worship.

My initial thoughts, too.
Unless it's because we are the only two to actually mention it, I guess it may be hard to miss, as others are concentrating on the Geographical Knowledge.. or lack of it.

Well, he did mention that he had been taught that Italy looked like a boot, but I would be curious to know if he would know where to look or if he'd have to spin the globe until he found something that looked like a boot.
