Niagara Falls 98 years ago

Someone sent me these photos about 2 weeks ago, and I think they're simply fantastic!! :D

Thanks for reminding me to save them onto my computer! ..|

Amazing ... has that ever happened again?

As a native Western New Yorker, I have visited Niagara Falls many times in winter.

Now don't get me wrong, the Falls are spectacular ANYTIME of the year. And even though I have been there many, many times, the allure and excitement never get boring.

Winter time is very special though...I was there with my Florida cousins a few years back, on December 28 at night, and though the temperature was frigid, snow was falling, and the ice build up was getting somewhat like in those old pics, the falls were simply magical with the brightly colored lights that can be viewed from the Ontario side. We sat in the upper level falls side restaurant (it was Table Rock House) and had drinks, while watching the colorful lights. It was simply beautiful.....

Niagara Falls was once (and may still be) a very popular honeymoon destination. This prompted Oscar Wilde to describe it in this manner "Niagara Falls is a brides second biggest disappointment"

I think Niagara Falls is awesome!
I've been a couple of times (on both sides) and still don't get disappointed.. :-) ..|

Some of those photos are from different years.

I thought these articles were interesting:

Here's some StereoViews of the Falls:

Three people known to have gone over the falls "unassisted" as they say (in other words, not in a barrel or some other form of protection) and survived. The last one was just last year I believe. I so recall reading about the guy (I believe Sept 1995) that rode his jetski over it - with a parachute attached to him. Um, it didn't open. Dead.
