His album remains one of my favorite releases this year.

I'm also fond of his remix work.

Darkside is the collaborative project behind 21-year old electronic mastermind, Nicolas Jaar and bassist Dave Harrington.

Darkside is Jaar’s signature dizzying, minimal electronica- gone rock with the addition of some seriously funky bass.

Nicolas Jaar - With Just One Glance You (Feat. Scout Larue)

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTFWT2B7acc[/ame]

A couple of weeks before Nicolas Jaar's debut album "Space Is Only Noise" hit stores, I called him up to get the scoop before taping our "electronic edition" of the All Songs Considered podcast. Jaar was on his way to the Watergate nightclub in Berlin to play a sold out album release party. I told him how much I loved the record, and he said "you know you're the first person from the States to say that to me." I was shocked; here was a 21-year-old student at Brown University who could pack clubs across the Atlantic, but who was virtually anonymous in the country he grew up in. That's all changed now: Jaar's album (my favorite of 2011) earned him deserved buzz since its February release. If he keeps dropping new singles like "With Just One Glance You," his profile will only grow. --Sami Yenigun

Great thread, Space Is Only Noise is pretty fantastic. Definitely one of last year's best albums.
Thanks for the video posts.

Listen to Nicolas Jaar Remix Daft Punk's 'Random Access Memories'

Young New York auteur Nicolas Jaar and his Darkside collaborator Dave Harrington have spontaneously unveiled an album featuring a remix of every track from Daft Punk's brand-new Random Access Memories LP. The duo has opted to release its ambitious Random Access Memories Memories under the apt handle Daftside, using the name to reinterpret Daft Punk's landmark album by scaling back the classically minded tunes in favor of more subdued energy, heaps of static and crackling texture, and sparse grooves. All of Jaar's and Harrington's work can be heard below.

Eleven Times

Nicolas Jaar and Brian Jackson soundtrack a soulful tribute to victims of police brutality

“I don't think that to talk about ugliness you necessarily have to be ugly,” says director Samantha Casolari, who, moved by the civil protests against police brutality following the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner last year, has created an emphatic portrayal of victims of police violence. “[My aim was to] empower the people who are subject to this unfortunately institutionalized system, showing their beauty and their strength.”

Nicolas Jaar releases new album Pomegranates — FREE DOWNLOAD

The LP version of his score for the 1969 Armenian film The Color of Pomegranates

Earlier in the year, electronic producer Nicolas Jaar debuted an original score for The Color of Pomegranates, a 1969 Armenian film from director Sergei Parajanov. Today, Jaar has released a free download of the LP version of the soundtrack.

The download comes with a message that says, “THIS VERSION OF POMEGRANATES DOES NOT SYNC WITH FILM.” There’s also a lengthier note in which Jaar explains the origins of some of the songs. Most began before he had any knowledge of Parajanov’s movie. “Garden of Eden”, for example, was Jaar’s soundtrack to a large water bug dancing on some cables in his studio. “Shame” is a rejected rap beat and “Survival” is an early version of DJ Slugo’s “Ghetto”.

Jaar goes on to reveal that some of the music comes from “hours of soundtrack” he made for a TV show before he left when he realized “the show was not what I signed up for.” “I only used a dozen minutes of it for Pomegranates,” he notes, “not sure what to do with the rest!” He adds, “‘Volver’ is a choir version of an unreleased track called ‘Revolver’ I made in 2011 that will come out this year hopefully.”

You can read the whole note below, including a picture of a serendipitous tree, and download Pomegranates
