No Doubt pulls racist 'Looking Hot' video and apologizes

The photo in the OP is a GORGEOUS shot. The outfit is stunning. Let me hit a Native American Gift shop.

BTW I'm Native American, grandmother was full blown Cherokee. Hews jealous?

I'm not big into "cultural appropriation." It implies a kind of ownership that isn't there. And I'm not sure why the white chick is getting dumped on for what is a band decision about the artistic direction of the video.

There may be things wrong with the video that are offensive, but I can't see arguing it convincingly in the terms put here. I also can't see the video, since it was self-censored. (and now evidently other-censored since finding any copy of it is proving to be difficult)

In case you haven't seen it:

About as offensive as Pocahontas, in my humble opinion.

So if I walk around talking in a fake British accent and wear a bowler hat am I appropriating their culture? People need to get a life and stop whining about every damn thing a celebrity does. Why was no one outraged by Austin Powers?!?

And yeah, my father's father was native american, big fuckin whoop.

I was offended by that Meryl Streep Azaria movie which demeaned my people but I didn't start up an internet campaign and demand that Streep abort the movie.

^ that's what I understood from the article, that they removed it by themselves, not because it had been campaigned and demanded they do so.
Just double-checking, different sources will say different things...

I don't really understand why someone would deny someone else's right to be offended... it is quite popular on the internet to denigrate and label others' feelings "PC", in a derogatory manner...

If no doubt actually removed the clip by themselves, out of consideration for people' feelings, it was a very respectable thing of them to do.

I am astonished that the PR Department of the millionaire corporation didn't get a chance to vet the idea before all those thousands of corporate dollars were thrown away

I think they should have pulled it because it sounds too Gwen Stefani and not enough No Doubt, but after looking at the video, all I can think of is she should have known better, even if the only emotion I can muster is "meh".

I like No Doubt but this just wasnt a smart idea. I can see why some groups found it insensitive.

I'm stunned. That thete's a thread about No Doubt circa 2012. i'm assuming that means the video did what it's supposed to do.

I'm not American so perhaps it's not something that's brought up much outside the US, but I can honestly say I've only noticed this whole... 'backlash' against wearing headdresses, etc. in very recent years. It's made me wonder, is it 'offensive' if a little girl dresses up as Pocahontas for Halloween, etc.?

^ .. why do they continue to live in sub-standard conditions?

Anyway, I've always considered that Stefani-dolly-woman as a completely-artificial commercial product invented by that sexually-confused Englishman
