  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

No Mean City.

Safe enough. I try not to be out alone too late which is easy because I never go out.

Yes. Charles Street is a safe thoroughfare for pedestrians. That is not true of areas west of Liberty Street. While reasonably safe, I do not venture out at night without a companion.

Where I live yes, however I have a uncomfortable feeling about public places these days.

I don't hang out with the scumbags, so yeah.

lol
My company currently has me living in a tiny rural town in the middle of nowhere in the Southwest US. Most of the town goes to sleep by 9pm. By 10 pm its almost a ghost town.
I could walk anywhere at night and be totally safe...Unless I strayed onto someone's private property.
I feel safe all the time...But if they knew I was gay, then all bets would be off.

I walk the streets all the time. I feel very safe here.

Yes, the town I live in is pretty quiet. There are some 'hoods I wouldn't be in late at night, though.

Some nights of the week I am at work by myself quite late. I won't take out the trash after 10PM even though we have cameras out back, and I move my ride to the front of the building before its too late at night, so there isn't too far to walk in a darkened parking lot alone.

Small town here.
I'm not afraid to walk anywhere at any time around here........not even through the cemetery next door........nobody is there to bother me anyway.

Edinburgh in general is pretty safe if one uses their common sense.

Glasgow on the other hand.............

There are parts of Birmingham I'd avoid in broad daylight, but the city centre and the area where I live are fine. I'm regularly out late and never see any trouble.

I am afraid of the moose, beavers and bears after dark.

I live in a big city. As with most big cities certain parts are safer than others: obviously I feel safer in the former. My immediate neighborhood and 10 miles away in all directions is very safe. Very little crime of the sort you're thinking. (Probably a fair amount of white-collar shenanigans, however.)

In the hills 6 miles north I worry about mountain lions, although occasionally one will wander further south. A few years ago a cougar was spotted in my neighborhood, and early one morning a number of years ago I saw one about half a mile away in Beverly Hills on a residential street only a few blocks from the central business district.

It occasionally occurs to me when I wander around European cities at night that I wouldn't feel as safe as I do if I knew more about the place.

Same for me. Small rural town with a community college so there are always college kids running around, partying, and getting late night snacks at the convenience stores or Walmart. But no matter if you are a teen girl or an adult you are pretty safe to even walk the neighborhoods and college campus. We do have a major Interstate 70 highway (some areas call them freeways), that runs from the East coast of the U.S. to the West coast, that passes by the edge of town. So we still get the some bad people every now and then.
