Nobody knows I'm gay. (?!)

Lube, yes just like Sting, Matt Lauer (his eyes don't lie) and Steve Jobs (?) The archetype of gayface is Zac Efron IMO.

Determining bottoms and tops is also related. I can tell that too just by looking at someone. There's many who are versatile out there too, but I think we're getting ahead of ourselves.

I guess this kinda goes hand in hand with how people associated someone's appearance with their sexual preference (being top or bottom).
Well, sometimes, but there are a lot of surprises there.

Well, I don't know if 'surprise' is really the word.

I think gay guys just want the hot, muscular (daddy) guys to be tops. It's more wishful thinking than anything perceived.

It's ludicrous to think that any gay man is a total top. Again, wishful thinking.

Yeah, erobert, anyone who thinks Zac is just metrosexual is deluding themselves.

Sure, it's easy to peg some guys as total bottoms, I think we all would like bottom at some point. This whole top/bottom thing is modeling gays after straights, I don't think we work the same way at all (sexually, that is).

I was reading this thread and I couldn't help but remember this one guy I've seen around my dorm during school. Since we're talking about gaydars and whatnot, it made me think of this situation:

I've seen the guy around and so I recognize him, but I've never introduced myself or really talked to him. To describe him, from what I've seen myself, he is more of a quiet guy, but he's not afraid to hug his friends. His voice is like really deep, like an artificially deep tone... it might just be his disctinct voice, but it seems like he puts in effort to sound masculine. His face- overall I guess he's pretty normal with his face, but it sets off a few blips sometimes...

There was one time when I was eating my lunch when I saw him alone. Talk about my gaydar going off!!!

I was just finishing lunch, and when I turned around to put away my plates, I noticed him sitting behind me, checking me out for a brief moment. I swear my heart jumped and I almost dropped my plates right in front of him because that completely caught me off guard! The look he gave me...it was like intently examining me... it was so familiar :). Needless to say, I recovered from that quickly and continued walking as if it never happened.

It's just that from being on JUB so often now, and coming out to myself, I know what it means when a guy stares at another guy too intently for no apparent reason... he's checking the other guy out!

Lol surprisingly this guy wasn't the only one I've caught checking me out... I can only hope they're clues that point to something...?

Oh, yes. After practicing being in the closet (and/or in denial), we learn the tricks to try to convince people we're straight, but we're also acutely aware of those giveaways--the piercing look at a guy we're checking out, that you pointed out.

Yes, definitely clues!

Not a single person knew i was gay before i came out. Either people who knew me, or people who had seen only pictures of me!

Myth busted

It's called "face reading". It's a pseudo-science that's existed for thousands of years, along with palm-reading. The reason it's a "pseudo-science" is because people can and do accurately equate certain facial features with certain behaviors and personality traits, but there's just no scientific evidence that facial traits influence personality, or vice versa.

--------

Sorry to burst your bubble, but straight people don't have the greatest gaydars. The way they tell if a man is gay is by if he speaks with a lisp, and/or acts feminine and campy; People still look for the stereotypes that they see in television and in pride parades.

Oh, nothing's 100%. I don't think anyone would claim to know whether every person on earth was gay based on their looks alone. I'm sure there are a few people with Down Syndrome, for example, who look considerably less stereotypically that way.

You're also assuming people are being honest with you (and themselves) when they say they didn't know you were gay. ;)

It's not so much that facial traits influence personality, but rather that a gene linked to a specific trait (e.g., gayness or Down Syndrome) has effects far beyond one thing (sexuality, mental capacity) and that could include facial traits.

Well, that's how they know someone's gay: the stereotypical features. But straight people certainly wonder about a much larger group of men who aren't quite so stereotypical. :)
