I doubt the U.S. penny is going away anytime soon. It's a tradition in the U.S. to price many items one cent less than the desired price ($999.99, $1.99, .99 cents, etc.) to make people think they're paying a whole lot less than $1,000, $2.00, or $1.00. And you better believe American want their penny in change!
