You are correct loki81, I said that in the thread, Why jobs are sent overseas. The sole exception was the original protection for blacks who were at that time essentially frozen out of the job market. It is no longer necessary and has lost it's usefulness when it was expanded to include nearly everyone. Now it is just a boon for trial lawyers while being an unnecessary burden for employers. Jobs are important, so those who create them should be allowed to hire the best person without regard to race, etc. We should not give them another reason to hire as few as possible, or another good reason to send jobs overseas.
it would be terrible if that became a law there
… unless there is a specific law to protect employees or there is an employment contract providing otherwise, then an employer can treat its employees as it sees fit (including the assignment of demeaning tasks) and the employer can discharge an employee at the will of the employer for any reason or no reason at all. [NC Department of Labor]
What do you expect? Benvolio apologizing for the GOP and admitting their anti-gay practices?
No, Ninja108 Republicans favor free enterprise and are struggling to preserve out economy. If you do not see the connection between legal burdens being placed on employers and jobs being sent overseas, you need to give more thought to economic cause and effect.
No, Rolyo, the NC platform is not a law or even a proposal for a law.
So how are protected classes a controlled economy again? It's just recognition of the fact that certain people are discriminated against. If you claim they are not, then you obviously live on a space station.
No, I am opposed to discrimination. But not everything should be governed by law. It is much more important that employers have the freedom to hire the best person for the job, without regard to race, etc or orientation.
So I'll ask it again. Are you saying that employers SHOULD be allowed to discriminate if they feel like it?
To put it another way, I think Benvolio is saying he would not personally discriminate but he believes it should be legal to discriminate if an employer chooses to.
