North Carolina GOP Platform - Gov should be able to discriminate against gays

Why aren't the right wing republican JUBBERS jumping in here to defend their party? They're supporting a political party that considers them second class citizens.

You are correct loki81, I said that in the thread, Why jobs are sent overseas. The sole exception was the original protection for blacks who were at that time essentially frozen out of the job market. It is no longer necessary and has lost it's usefulness when it was expanded to include nearly everyone. Now it is just a boon for trial lawyers while being an unnecessary burden for employers. Jobs are important, so those who create them should be allowed to hire the best person without regard to race, etc. We should not give them another reason to hire as few as possible, or another good reason to send jobs overseas.

I am pretty sure that the only reason I was not laid off from my finance job with the rest of my "hire lot" was because I was "out and proud". I would have been laid off over a year ago if work didn't think I would sue because I'm gay. I wouldn't have but kudos to them for paying for most of my grad school.

This would have relevance as an argument if it didn't come from someone who keeps expressing dislike for everyone who isn't white, male and straight. I mean, in your mind the others all vote Democrat, so they shouldn't be given ANY rights, if I understand correctly.

Nonsense. Liberals make that accusation when anyone disagrees with them.

it would be terrible if that became a law there

No law necessary. North Carolina is an employment-at-will state.

… unless there is a specific law to protect employees or there is an employment contract providing otherwise, then an employer can treat its employees as it sees fit (including the assignment of demeaning tasks) and the employer can discharge an employee at the will of the employer for any reason or no reason at all. [NC Department of Labor]

I'll put this nicely..what the heck do jobs being sent overseas have to do with this topic? This thread is about the fact the NC GOP is the latest of several state GOP parties to put in writing the fact they think it's OKAY to discriminate against LGBT citizens.
I'm an Independent and on many issues I consider myself to be a conservative.
But the GOP in its current form is far from Conservative. It is a party where people that want to model our government after the theocratic ones in the MIddle East.
I've said this before and I'll say it again,it doesn't matter how Conservative you are. To most of the current GOP,you are a gay person who deserves to burn in hell because their version of the bible says so. It still amazes me that GOProud,Log Cabin Repulibicians and others fail to realize that even when it's in writing.

No, Ninja108 Republicans favor free enterprise and are struggling to preserve out economy. If you do not see the connection between legal burdens being placed on employers and jobs being sent overseas, you need to give more thought to economic cause and effect.

No, Rolyo, the NC platform is not a law or even a proposal for a law.

I'm sorry, but EVEN if your delusions were in any way representations of reality, the concept that we have to coddle employers and make this country a guilt-free paradise for them where everything is allowed and there are no repercussions for anything they do, just so they DEIGN to give their jobs to actual Americans instead of some Taiwanese child, is preposterous.

Many of us can rember when the US had the greatest economy in the history of the world, precisely because we were allowed to create and build. Are you old enough to remember when Bugaria had the kind of controlled economy the Democrats want?. How did that work out for the people?

So how are protected classes a controlled economy again? It's just recognition of the fact that certain people are discriminated against. If you claim they are not, then you obviously live on a space station.

I don't think he's ever denied it. He's FOR it!

No, I am opposed to discrimination. But not everything should be governed by law. It is much more important that employers have the freedom to hire the best person for the job, without regard to race, etc or orientation.

So I'll ask it again. Are you saying that employers SHOULD be allowed to discriminate if they feel like it?

To put it another way, I think Benvolio is saying he would not personally discriminate but he believes it should be legal to discriminate if an employer chooses to.

Thanks hotalboi but, and I mean no offense, I actually want to hear him say that. I don't for ONE MINUTE believe that he wouldn't personally discriminate and I really want to hear HIM say that discrimination should be "de-regulated," so to speak.
