North Carolina pastor tells his parishioners to beat the gay out of kids

His audience actually sounded a bit uneasy, but very likely some agreed thoroughly with him and thought his advice was the best thing since sliced bread. I wouldn't find it a stretch to imagine a child (who has one or two parents in that congregation) being maimed or killed because of some real or imagined homa-sex-yull thoughts or actions.

I still don't know whether there's more and more of this shit, or whether we are only more aware of them happening because of the Internet, and the existence of at least SOME "liberal" media. (I have to put quotes around that word, because the very definition of liberal has been so muddied, that few people even know what it means anymore.) For example, Luv... must have just seen the segment on MSNBC (The Last Word) and looked up the pastor's name on YouTube and there he was - which could not have been done ten years ago - as there was neither a JUB (nor, yet, a LMAO Forum) nor a YouTube yet.

I can remember, for example, in the middle 1980's that, to my knowledge, outside of Pacifica (which was available only in half a dozen major metropolitan areas, via radio), there was absolutely no "liberal" and nationally-available radio or TV of any kind available. Now there is some such media (via MSNBC and scattered other stuff available everywhere, and usually one such radio station in the majority of the larger metropolitan areas carrying mostly national hosts),

There are also progressive news outlets on the Internet. 30 years ago one could drive across the entire length or three or four states at a time, with no opportunity whatsoever to find any liberal printed media.

So there is indeed more exposure to progressive/liberal media...though it is also very true that right-wing, reactionary, and Republican-fueled and Tea Party-friendly media dominate MANY times over, and often it's still some "work" to find the liberal stuff. MSNBC seldom appears on hotel TV's, for example, and "lesser" sources like Free Speech TV or Current *NEVER* appear in those places and are almost never on CABLE system rosters.

Left wing liberal media, my ass!

Disgusting, thoroughly disgusting...

Mahatma Ghandi once said, “Of all religions, Christianity is without a doubt the one that should inspire tolerance most, although, up to now, the Christians have been the most intolerant of all men”.

I rest my case.

However, I will say that the last several presidential campaigns, the current one being the worst, have given the extreme righties a cause célèbre. When FEAR, SMEAR, QUEER as the cornerstones of today's GOP were part of my signature, I wasn't kidding. If anybody takes this cretin seriously, what we will have is tantamount to church-sanctioned child abuse on the best of days. As unpleasant as it is, the above post is a good example of why gay kids might consider suicide.

Well, that's what my pappy did, and I am grateful. Without that, I might not be the bb'in submissive pain and toilet gutpunched, tt'd, cbt'd
tied up n whipped cocksucker that I am today....

That is vile.

He's no pastor, he's a thief -- a pastor is a shepherd; it takes a thief to preach abuse, to climb in over the fence into the sheep pen in order to prey on the flock.

And yet somehow it is the fundamentalist Islamic clerics that upset the American people?

This guy is no different at all.

He is inciting people to violence and criminal activity and ought to be charged.

He's not but they don't see that. All they see is someone speaking against the evil geys.

If one examines the Book of Leviticus (what, again?) it states that intransigent children should be destroyed. Today's children that might be displaying homosexual tendencies are lucky they're only beaten.

I guess these despicable, religious bigots have realized one can't "pray the gay away," so they're going to try to "beat the gay away." Religion = Child abuse.

If try to protect children from beatings, you are waging a war on religious freedom! I can hear it now! :help:

Couldn't he get arrested for this?

Nope, hate speech dressed up as a pastoral sermon delivered in a tax-exempt, mega-church rivaling the square acreage of Wal-Mart down the road is protected under free speech and freedom of religion...it behooves these smug bastards that there may be a budding "butch lesbo" or a deeply closeted football captain (who loves getting plowed in the church restrooms while the congregants bray and baa to "Jerusalem," "Amazing Grace," or "Hosanna") may be recording this on their cell phones to expose the blind hatred in the name of god.
In the end, they may have to ban all electronic recording devices (and have the sheep-ple sign confidentiality waivers) in order to protect the "sanctity of god's good news and word."

Glad to see someone amongst the flock had the sense to get this out to the court of public opinion!
Though you never know, maybe this was used as a rallying call to attract like-minded, fearful parents into the fold?

Except that the rules in the Book of Leviticus only applies to Jews. And I doubt even the Orthodox actually kill their gay kids.

I corrected that for you. In truth, people who would follow that "advice" would beat their kids whether they were religious or not -- they'd find another "reason".

I heard that when I was at OSU, about 1990. Some politician wanted a law against spanking, and some dimwit pastor bitch claimed it was religious persecution, because "the Bible commands it!"

Some joke, eh? I love that he contends it was just a joke (a joke, by the way, that he claims his parishioners "got") but uses the fake apology to reiterate that "the word of God makes it clear that effeminate behavior is ungodly. I'm not going to compromise on that."

Let's see, they beat kids, tell them they are not worthy of love, turn them out of their houses and then blame the "homosexuality" for making them fucked up adults?

Another reason not to attend church.
