Finally a deal has been worked out to rid the state of the putrid bathroom bill and get the state out of the business of being toilet monitor.

In the end, it was probably the ongoing economic damage that the law was doing that finally brought the transphobics around....almost 4 billion dollars worth of economic activity by some estimates.

"I support the House Bill 2 repeal compromise that will be introduced tomorrow," Cooper said late Wednesday after the announcement. "It's not a perfect deal, but it repeals House Bill 2 and begins to repair our reputation."

The deal came hours before North Carolina was set to potentially lose the ability to host NCAA athletic championships for several years. The NCAA was one of many prominent organizations to sanction the state in the aftermath of the enactment of the bill, which was signed by Republican former Gov. Pat McCrory in 2016.

And how could NC pass up the opportunity to see slaves play sports and not profit from it?

Once Hussein, the bathroom dictator, left office, the people of NC were able to solve the problem though the democratic process.

Bullshit. Just bullshit.

This bullshit law had nothing to do with Obama except for some right wing reactionaries thumbing their nose in order to make a point with their knuckle dragging transphobic base.

This law was the whackhead religious right GOP in North Carolina imposing rules on the people of the state that were never asked for.

And it backfired.

And now they have spent months digging themselves out of the hole since the Governor who signed it into law is gone. There has been no 'democratic' process...it has just been a lot of legislative bargaining in order to save face and get some of that NCAA moolah.

Unbefuckinglievable.

It really was done only to scam the NCAA into giving them unpaid people playing sports.

Hopefully the NCAA will be looking at the actual bill carefully and won't fall for any deceit.

But I suspect that they'd be happy with some window dressing versus actual substance.

The bill does not repeal HB2. It still provides a ban for transgender people from using public accommodations that correspond with their gender identity. It also places a nearly four-year moratorium on all localities – cities, towns, counties – from enacting any non-discrimination ordinances.

LGBT activists and organizations strongly oppose the bill.

Lawmakers announced and passed the bill in about a 13 hour period, attempting to beat the NCAA's noon deadline. If it did not become law North Carolina would be locked out of NCAA games for the next five years.

And so much for Benvolio's bullshit assertions.

If they really meant it, they would have repealed it completely and "clean" (thus allowing Charlotte to reinstate their anti-discrimination, Winston-Salem to keep its minimum wage law, etc.).

No, they also passed provisions, like the state legislature is still responsible for bathroom laws, and nothing can be put back in by localities until 2020, etc.

What's to stop them from just enacting the same shit all over again?

You really are a piece of work ! IT is fine that you refer to Obama with your sophomoric replacement. Wonder what you call the Orange idiot n the White House!

There are 131 Million Americans that now have passports. But only 3.5% travel outside the states. If they did they would find that in many Cities Paris for example many restaurants have one Toilet. Inside there many be 4 or 5 sinks and 3 to 5 doors to toilets. No one cares or complains.

Shame so manys idea is a trp to Disney in Orlando they could experience the world.

Yep, it's merely slight of hand. If it were genuine, then there wouldn't be any of those little fillers that prevent cities from handling things their own way... dictates from the feds is tyranny but the same if not worse by state governments isn't? Whatever happened to local control and more self government, smaller government? The Democratic governor should be ashamed of himself... you can't compromise core values and principles. The Dems went with repeal on the state level but the cities should be free to decide on their own. If one really believes in limited government, they will be consistent at least and respect that. Benvolio isn't genuine, he's acting like a partisan operative.

At this point I'm ready to say that all Americans need to spend two weeks backpacking out where bathroom facilities consist of a hollow stump in a clearing, with a toilet seat fastened to it. It's just infantile to be so worried about who might or might not see your body parts, or what body parts you might see.

And make all beaches nude beaches -- if you're ashamed to have your body seen in public that way, either grow up, hit the gym, or both.

One more reason that we need a "Presumption of Liberty" amendment to the Constitution, so that any jurisdiction may pass laws enhancing individual rights and no other jurisdiction can tell them "No".

I think all public bathrooms should be unisex, singular units that are more classy.

Problem is that, under the guise of "liberty," a lot of redneck local jurisdictions would be passing Restoration of Religious Freedom laws, or other laws that embrace their desire to control or suppress liberties, because they see the "right to discriminate" as individual liberty.

Those would fail an obvious test -- laws would have to grant equal liberty to everyone.
