Another problem this may cause is that a new arms race will develop in the far east, with Japan and in particular South Korea scrambling for nuclear deterrents. However this would merely overwhelm the already outnumbered Kim.
This is probably the worst foriegn policy that Kim has done, as he has lost the vital support of his powerful ally, China. And now he will pay a heavy price in the form of sanctions. Hopefully this will cause him to give into pressure and drop his nuclear programme- that should be the logical step, if he is clever and careful enough. He does have that other choice and that is to retaliate, maybe against Seoul. However he cannot do this without wiping himself and his country out.
